Chapter 14 Firework Hall
After Daoist Xuan Qing made his move, Miss Zhen also began her own test.
The colorless and odorless poison smoke silently spread towards the Young Master of the Quan family, but before it got close, the Alchemy Puppet summoned a gust of wind with one of its arms, dispersing the poison smoke completely.
Miss Zhen marveled slightly, "This thing rivals a Dao Artifact, no, even Dao Artifacts rarely possess such exquisite power."
After the tests, Bai was very satisfied with the protective effect of the puppet.
This thing beside the Young Master is even safer than if I were there myself.
"Young Master, the Evil Ghost wants me to witness the existence of those Immortal Village Fragments, please decide."
Bai knelt on one knee before the Young Master, head lowered, awaiting the Young Master's decision.
"Go ahead, Bai."
The Young Master stroked Bai's head, speaking softly.
"For the Evil Ghost to bring out such a sophisticated thing, if I do not permit it, he might take his anger out on you. However, even though I allow you to go, be sure to take care of your safety during this journey.
The Quan family... only you and I are left."
"Yes! Young Master."
The commotion caused by Daoist Xuan Qing soon attracted the Lu Family's people to investigate, but with Miss Zhen there, these people were quickly sent away.
Soon, a streak of dawn broke through the darkness.
The bloody night was finally over.
The skilled craftsmen of the Lu Family brought materials to repair the Yuèyuè Tower. Although the tower remained somewhat dangerous, the Lu Family needed repairs everywhere, so reconstructing the Yuèyuè Tower was certainly not prioritized.
Before leaving the Lu Family, Bai brought the cage to find Miss Zhen.
"Is this the thief you caught!?"
In the medicinal-scented pharmacy, Miss Zhen stood up from behind the desk and quickly walked to Bai.
"An Immortal's descendant was actually locked in a cage by you!"
Bai shook his head slightly, "This is all the work of the Evil Ghost."
Miss Zhen looked at the cage and then turned her gaze to Bai.
"Then why did you bring him here to me?"
"...The Evil Ghost instructed me to hand him to you."
"The Evil Ghost instructed you to hand him to me?"
A trace of bewilderment flashed across Miss Zhen's face. She had no connection with the Evil Ghost behind Bai, so why would the Evil Ghost make Bai give her such a valuable thing out of nowhere?
"Yes." Bai nodded earnestly, "He said you have made good progress in medical research, making it safer in your hands."
Miss Zhen was taken aback for a moment, then showed a puzzled expression, not knowing whether to cry or laugh.
"...Receiving praise from the Evil Ghost is truly an honor."
"If you do not wish to accept it, I can place it elsewhere."
"No!" Miss Zhen instinctively replied, then realized she had lost her composure and smiled apologetically at Richard.
"It's good to leave it with me; I just happen to need an Immortal's descendant for some experiments."
"Assistance?" Bai frowned slightly, "This might not be very suitable, this guy is a very arrogant noble descendant."
"There's no need to worry about that." Miss Zhen showed a faint smile.
An arrogant noble descendant might be troublesome as an assistant, but not as an experimental subject.
However, Bai did not catch Miss Zhen's implications. Seeing Miss Zhen's confidence, Bai thought perhaps Miss Zhen had some kind of mind-bending Dao Technique.
Without a doubt, Miss Zhen's willingness to take this descendant relieved Bai of a major trouble.
"In that case, I shall leave this to you. While I am away, I hope you will take care of the Young Master.
Bai here offers his gratitude in advance."
Saying this, Bai bowed deeply to Miss Zhen.
Miss Zhen returned the gesture with the same courtesy, "It's only my duty, no need for you to worry."
...
Outside the Lu Family's suburb, Daoist Xuan Qing stood by the roadside, wearing a conical hat like a woodcutter.
Suddenly, a dull sound of horse hooves came from within the city.
He turned his head and saw Bai riding a black horse, coming out from the city to his side.
"A good horse. Such a mighty build must have awakened Dragon Blood." Daoist Xuan Qing praised, looking at the black horse.
Bai glanced around and asked Daoist Xuan Qing, "Where's your horse? Or are you going to run over on foot?"
Daoist Xuan Qing chuckled softly.
"My horse is right here."
With that, a mist emerged from Daoist Xuan Qing's sleeve, transforming beside him into a cloud-like deer. Then, he lightly tapped the mist, which turned into a beautiful white deer.
"Turning illusion into reality, transformation witchcraft, it's no big deal."
Richard's voice whispered in Bai's ear, calming his heart.
Since Richard had seen this before, there was nothing to fear.
Seeing Bai unfazed by this display, Daoist Xuan Qing knew that the Evil Ghost behind Bai was watching him closely at that moment.
"It seems that my Transformation Technique is somewhat of a display of poor skills before an expert."
"...Lead the way, Daoist Xuan Qing. Compared to your Dao Technique, he is more interested in the Immortal Village Fragments you mentioned."
"Haha, then let's go."
Daoist Xuan Qing rode on the white deer, proceeding along the road like an immortal from a rural legend. The white deer's steps were slow, but the distance it covered did not match its pace. In just a few steps, it left Bai far behind.
Seeing this scene, Richard in the laboratory couldn't help but pause his actions.
"Interesting means. To use spatial methods with such ease, and it seems the consumption is not large... Superb, simply superb."
Richard's soliloquy was not transmitted to Bai, so Bai had no idea what Xuan Qing Daoist's move entailed. He only knew that if he didn't speed up, he would be completely left behind by Daoist Xuan Qing.
Smack!
Bai cracked the whip, rushing toward the back of Daoist Xuan Qing.
...
Traveling was not a difficult task for two Third Level beings.
Even in a world where thieves were everywhere and noble families didn't regard commoners as people, traveling was still not a difficult task for two Third Level beings.
Buzz!
Bai habitually swung his blade, and blood on the blade fell to the ground like a blood arrow.
In the dense forest, dozens of bodies of Samurai drained of blood lay quietly on the ground.
"Ah, how glorious the noble families once were. Each family's emergence represented a group of luminaries standing firmly in the Wilderness. But now, why are the noble families filled with those without insight?"
A cloud of mist gathered in the forest, eventually forming into the long sighs of Daoist Xuan Qing.
"The noble families of the past?" Bai casually replied.
"Yes, the noble families of the past," Daoist Xuan Qing sighed, "After the White Wolf King was overthrown, the Immortals did not immediately enfeoff the noble families. During that nearly five-hundred-year oppressive era, the Barbaric Beasts drove us from the fertile land without the protection of the Martial Artists, and the Werewolves that once spread across the earth could only gather in a corner.
Later, the Immortals imparted Dao Techniques and enfeoffed noble families. The Werewolves then began to expand. The initial noble families were far from as noble as their family histories claim; their ancestors were just a bunch of peasants.
However, those peasants were strong enough to reclaim a piece of land from the mouths of Barbaric Beasts, thus becoming noble families.
Regrettably, these are things of the past."
After lamenting, Daoist Xuan Qing did not summon the white deer but proceeded on foot. Seeing this, Bai knew that the Immortal Village Fragments must be near.
Upon exiting the forest, a vista of mountains came into view. It was deep into the night, and the moonlight from the Immortal Country cast over the mountains, as if sprinkled with a layer of Silver.,
"Let's go, the Immortal Country is right ahead."
Daoist Xuan Qing called out to Bai, then proceeded toward the Void. Bai followed closely behind, his Prosthetic Eye, fed by Energy, began to reveal everything around him to both Bai and Richard.
In the view of the Prosthetic Eye, there was a fine, continuously flickering line in the Void. However, using Bai's native eyes, there was nothing visible in the Void.
"Something moving too fast for your eyes to see."
Following Daoist Xuan Qing to the flickering line, Daoist Xuan Qing pinched a spell, and a surge of Energy surged from his body.
The next moment, the flickering line began to violently tremble, then suddenly split open—a Space Rift appeared before the two.
"Quick, get in, I can't hold it open for long."
Daoist Xuan Qing's voice was urgent, but Richard told Bai not to hurry in.
"Kid, take this. Have the Daoist leave a soul mark on it, or else kill him."
"Kill him?"
"Yes."
Richard's voice was icy and ruthless, "The content of this scroll ensures that the inside of this Immortal Village Fragment is safe, and he won't harm you. If he won't even sign this, it means he has no sincerity.
Why keep an insincere conspirator alive?"
Bai didn't understand Richard's last metaphor, but he got the gist of Richard's point. One hand on his blade, he handed the contract to Daoist Xuan Qing with the other.
"He said, sign this contract."
"Sign a contract?"
Daoist Xuan Qing was slightly surprised, and upon seeing Bai's hand on his blade, inwardly cursed the old fox.
"How do I sign it?"
"Leave your soul mark."
Daoist Xuan Qing briefly scanned the content of the contract, which was written in the language of the Werewolves, so he could understand it. Upon ensuring there were no malicious traps hidden in its clauses, he left his mark on the contract.
But he didn't notice several perfect clauses hidden in the contract's corner patterns.
Using patterns to trick someone into signing a slavery clause is one of the Wizards' most commonly used tactics to deceive natives. However, Richard had always been honest with others, so he had never used this tactic before.
But this Daoist Xuan Qing was a bit too uncontrollable, so he had to have a backup to ensure his eyes in this world weren't destroyed.
After signing the contract, Bai promptly entered the fragment. Daoist Xuan Qing followed closely behind, and once Daoist Xuan Qing entered, the entrance to the Immortal Village Fragment abruptly closed.
Noticing this, Richard nodded slightly, "The spatial structure is so stable, it seems the hypothesis about the great world back then should be correct."
Daoist Xuan Qing walked to Bai's side, speaking to the Prosthetic Eye, "Friend from the Exotic Realm, take a closer look. Is this Immortal Village Fragment authentic?"
Bai turned to look behind him, facing a grand palace with an ancient plaque hanging above.
The plaque bore three words, and although he had never seen such writing before, the moment he saw these three words, Richard understood their meaning.
"Firework Hall?"
