Wizard Lord:I can Extract Anything

Chapter 141: Chapter 141: Relics of the Forerunners

Confronted by the seemingly invincible Insect Inhart, Richard had no choice but to descend further into the Abyss of Origin.

The deeper they went, the denser the chaotic life energy became, and the more ancient creatures they encountered.

Neither Ulysses nor Richard could deal with the insect, so they could only hope the harsh environment of the Abyss of Origin would do the job for them.

As they descended, the life-laden hot winds battered Richard's magic shield, creating ripples across its surface.

Richard's face was pale, sweat beading on his forehead as he continuously channeled mana into the shield.

By now, Richard had descended nearly two hundred meters, where the concentration of life energy was so intense that a first-tier creature would transform into a mass of proliferating flesh within thirty minutes.

However, Insect Inhart, pursuing Richard, was also struggling.

The violent life energy pounded against his faith armor, dimming its holy light.

This armor didn't drain his energy but consumed his faith power. Once depleted, Insect Inhart, as a second-tier creature, would fare no better than Richard.

A wizard's mana shield, crafted with arcane wisdom, was far superior to the energy shields of indigenous creatures.

"Wizard creature, do you really want to become chaotic flesh?" Insect Inhart shouted at Richard, hoping to end what he saw as a mutually destructive chase.

But Richard had different plans.

Feigning fanaticism, Richard replied, "Insect, you're chosen by the gods, a big shot. For a first-circle wizard like me to take down someone like you is an honor! The wizarding world will remember my deeds, and our world will be better for it!"

Fanaticism was the best disguise.

Though Richard didn't want to keep descending, as the weaker party, he needed to raise the stakes.

And life was a significant stake.

He was betting that this god-chosen insect, with a promising future, wouldn't want to die alongside a first-circle black wizard in the Abyss of Origin.

And things went as Richard hoped.

Insect Inhart was both angry and frustrated by Richard's taunts.

"You're insane!"

But what could he do?

Feeling the faith power draining from his armor, Insect Inhart decided to give up.

As a two-star god-chosen insect and future grand priest of the insect kingdom, exchanging his life with a black wizard of the first circle wasn't worth it.

Watching Insect Inhart retreat, a smile crept onto Richard's pale face.

He had won his gamble.

Now he just had to wait for the insects to leave.

"Ulysses, wake up! The insect is gone!"

Richard patted Ulysses on the shoulder, taking out a handful of magic stones from his pocket.

Using flesh manipulation, Richard opened a slit in his abdomen, where his stomach and intestines, usually storing food, were now filled with magic stones.

This was Richard's backup mana supply, allowing him to survive so long in the Abyss of Origin.

"Caw, he's finally gone," Ulysses said, opening his eyes with relief.

"Caw, that old insect actually sent a god-chosen to chase a small fry like you. What a fool, no wonder they're being invaded. Even without you wizards, they'd have doomed themselves with such stupidity."

Insect Inhart had frightened him. If the old insect god noticed him, both he and Richard would be finished.

"Enough, you bailed at a critical moment," Richard retorted, glancing at Ulysses. Without the Abyss of Origin as a sanctuary, Ulysses' strength alone wouldn't have saved him from becoming a sacrifice.

"Caw, this was special circumstances..." Ulysses began to argue, but stopped abruptly, turning his head 180 degrees to look towards one side of the abyss.

"Caw, Richard, did you feel that?"

Richard followed Ulysses' gaze, confused.

"Feel what?"

"Caw, I forgot, you're just a novice. You can't sense such subtle spatial fluctuations."

Richard: "..."

Ulysses flapped his wings, hovering in front of Richard.

"Caw, follow me. There's a hidden space over here."

...

Even in the airspace of the Abyss of Origin, flying creatures existed. A swarm of insects, each the size of Richard's head, buzzed past him. Sensing Ulysses' aura, they quickly veered away.

These insects had incredibly tough exoskeletons, able to chew through rocks like cotton, making them formidable in the abyss. Even third-tier creatures would think twice before engaging them.

But under Ulysses' pressure, they scattered, allowing Richard to capture one for a specimen.

Wizards never miss an opportunity to expand their knowledge.

Following Ulysses further into the abyss, Richard descended to nearly five hundred meters.

This depth, though less than a tenth of the abyss's full depth, was Richard's limit. Any deeper, and his mana replenishment wouldn't keep pace with the life winds' drain.

"Caw, found it."

Ulysses suddenly flew to a cliff face, calling out to Richard.

"Found it? There's nothing here."

"Caw, nothing yet..." Ulysses clawed at the air, revealing a spatial rift.

"But there is now."

Richard was startled by Ulysses' display, surprised the injured creature could still perform such feats.

Indeed, even a wounded World Lord shouldn't be underestimated.

Ulysses entered the rift first to scout, soon emerging with excitement:

"Caw, Richard! You've struck gold!"

"What is it?" Richard eagerly entered the rift, gasping at what he saw.

"Is this... a Forerunner relic?"

...

Beyond the rift lay a small space resembling a laboratory.

The space was irregular, like a child's scribble, with walls and ceiling made of a dark crystal.

There wasn't much inside: a damaged crystal platform covered in cracks, and a shattered crystal chamber at the far end, emitting a rich aroma that drew Richard closer.

After his initial excitement, Richard frowned at the room.

As a laboratory, it was too small and irregular.

He could see the walls constantly vibrating, with rippling spatial distortions appearing.

"Caw, stop gawking and grab what you can," Ulysses urged. "This space is about to collapse. If you don't hurry, it'll be gone."

"Collapse?" Richard was alarmed.

"Caw, can't you see how unstable this space is? It's already collapsed a few times before. I figure it'll implode soon. If it weren't collapsing, I wouldn't have found it."

Richard wasted no time and got to work.

First, he approached the chamber at the room's end.

The crystal cover had cracked from the spatial collapse, and the liquid inside had turned murky.

Richard touched it, and the Miracle Furnace responded.

[Material: Unknown Liquid]

[Extractable Substance: Soul Essence]

[Extraction Cost: 30 Mental Energy]

[Extractable Substance: Life Essence]

[Extraction Cost: 2000 Mana]

Richard's eyes widened at the information.

Life Essence was a gentle, life-active substance that could enhance a creature's constitution and heal internal injuries, including damage to the life core. Apart from rule-based injuries inflicted by archmages, Life Essence could heal all wounds.

Soul Essence was even more remarkable.

It was one of the few treasures that could enhance mental energy without side effects. Additionally, using Soul Essence could potentially awaken innate soul talents, a rare occurrence only seen in innate wizard apprentices advancing to wizards!

Suppressing his joy, Richard chose to extract.

After extraction, he held a somewhat ethereal liquid and a blood-red, fragrant liquid.

Richard eagerly stored them, then began searching the room.

Essences could be used anytime, but the Forerunner relic might collapse soon.

Richard moved to the cracked crystal platform, gently touching it.

The Forerunner civilization seemed to love crystals, crafting everything from them.

After a thorough inspection, Richard found nothing—no Miracle Furnace prompts.

"Is it more damaged than the chip I found back then?"

Reluctantly, Richard tapped the crystal platform with his staff.

Ding, ding, ding... Crack!

The platform, as if receiving its final blow, shattered into countless crystal shards.

Richard was dumbfounded.

"These Forerunner creations aren't very durable."

Ulysses landed on his shoulder. "Caw, this junk was likely on the verge of breaking. Hurry and grab what you can; this space is about to collapse."

As if to prove Ulysses' point, the space where the crystal chamber once stood began collapsing, a three-meter area vanishing, with black spatial rifts appearing in the walls.

The space's walls acted like a world's barrier, separating the relic from spatial chaos.

Now, with rifts forming, the space was on the brink of collapse.

Without hesitation, Richard swept the crystal shards into his magic pocket. As materials crafted by the Forerunner civilization, they had potential uses, even without informational integrity.

In the next moment, the space collapsed, fragmenting into countless pieces. Ulysses expanded, grabbing Richard with his claws and escaping the relic just before total collapse.
