Wizard Lord:I can Extract Anything

Chapter 142: Chapter 142: Soul Talent

In the Abyss of Origin, Richard clutched his chest, heart pounding. If Ulysses had been even a moment slower, they would have been swept into the spatial turbulence.

Ulysses might have survived, but Richard, a mere first-circle wizard, would not have been so lucky.

"Caw, don't worry, I've got my eyes on everything," Ulysses said, perched confidently on Richard's shoulder. "In my current state, falling into spatial turbulence would likely mean death for me too."

Calming himself, Richard maintained his mana shield and began cautiously ascending.

Through the steam, Richard spotted a priest insect and a second-tier warrior insect guarding the tunnel entrance he had descended from.

"Looks like that path is a no-go. If that insect returns, I might really end up as a sacrifice."

There was more than one tunnel leading to the Abyss of Origin. Though the others were far from Richard's current position, it was worth spending some magic stones for safety.

After spending half a day in the abyss, Richard used nearly a hundred magic stones' worth of mana to find a new tunnel entrance.

Re-entering the hive through the new tunnel, Richard immediately set about finding a new hiding place.

Half a month later, Richard stood in a new cavern, carefully taking out the two essences he had obtained.

Life Essence and Soul Essence were the pinnacle of alchemical materials, requiring no additional ingredients to achieve their full effects.

The only caveat was that consuming either essence would induce a sleep state, a phenomenon not fully understood by wizards.

This sleep could last from a few days to a few months—not particularly long. Given the hive's current search efforts, Richard could use this time to lay low and avoid detection.

Richard's new cavern was well-hidden, with its entrance completely blocked by fungi. Without his microwave revealing crystal ball, he wouldn't have found such a concealed spot.

"Caw, my dear master," Ulysses cooed from Richard's shoulder, his tone fawning. "This Soul Essence would greatly aid my recovery. Since I helped you find the relic, how about sparing me a bit?"

Richard glanced at him, weighing the pros and cons.

The amount of Soul Essence wasn't enough to bypass the advancement ritual and elevate Richard directly to a second-circle wizard. At best, it would push his mental strength to the peak of a first-circle wizard, with the excess going to waste.

Moreover, Ulysses had indeed contributed significantly to this venture. If Richard didn't share some of the bounty, Ulysses might adopt a more hands-off approach in future situations.

For Richard, that would be undesirable.

"Ulysses, I need to know something," Richard said, levitating the Soul Essence with mana. "How much do you need to reach a stable second-tier state?"

"Caw, to reach a stable second-tier..." Ulysses flew to the Soul Essence, carving out a portion with his claw.

"This much should do it."

Richard examined the remaining Soul Essence. Ulysses had taken about a third, leaving a portion that Richard could consume without waste.

"Alright, handle that portion yourself."

To assess how much the essences would enhance him, Richard retrieved a crystal ball from his pocket to test his current attributes.

[Mental Strength: 59.2, Constitution: 75, Mana: 5920, Rating: First-Circle Wizard]

After the boost from the incubation liquid, Richard's constitution had risen from 64.7 before the war to seventy-five.

Recording his stats, Richard lay on the platform, consuming the Soul Essence.

Instantly, a cool sensation seeped from his mouth into his brain, soothing like the first sip of ice-cold cola in midsummer.

As the sensation faded, Richard felt an overwhelming drowsiness, his eyelids growing heavy.

He forced himself to swallow the Life Essence, but before he could fully process the sensation, he blacked out and fell into a deep sleep.

Once he was asleep, Ulysses flew to Richard and consumed the portion of Soul Essence.

For Ulysses, the amount wasn't enough to induce slumber, allowing him to remain vigilant and watch over Richard.

...

In his dreams, Richard found himself once again in the space known as the Soul's Shadow.

Unlike during his initiation as a wizard, this time the dark expanse contained a brilliantly glowing Soul Tree.

Before Richard's eyes, the tree sprouted and grew leaves, eventually bearing a radiant fruit.

Compelled, Richard stepped forward and plucked the fruit, feeling as if it had been made for him.

The moment he did, a brilliant light tore through the darkness.

In reality, Richard's eyes snapped open, and he sat up abruptly.

"How long was I asleep?"

"Caw, about a month. Thirty-two days to be precise."

Richard's mind lingered on the fruit from his dream. He looked at his hands in a daze, noticing something new in his vision.

He saw faint streams of light flowing through his hands, extending to his heart, which now appeared as a glowing bulb in his sight.

"Is this... energy sight?"

Turning to Ulysses, Richard observed similar light streams on him, emanating from each feather and forming a complex energy circuit within his body, holding far more energy than Richard's mana cycle.

"Caw, what are you staring at?"

Ulysses sensed Richard's gaze like being x-rayed and instinctively went on guard.

Instantly, Richard noticed the light streams on Ulysses vanish.

"Did he conceal it?"

Richard rubbed his eyes, willing the sight to fade. As he thought about deactivating the energy sight, his vision returned to normal.

"Caw, did you awaken a soul talent?" Ulysses asked, curious, flying to Richard's side.

"Yes, energy sight," Richard replied, blinking as he activated the sight again, excitement clear in his voice.

Using Soul Essence could potentially awaken a soul talent, and he had indeed hit the jackpot.

"Caw, energy sight? That's a good talent, quite suitable for you wizards."

Richard nodded. Energy sight was extremely useful for wizards, both in combat and research.

Satisfied with his new talent, Richard retrieved a crystal ball to check his updated stats.

[Mental Strength: 90, Constitution: 94, Mana: 9000, Rating: First-Circle Wizard.]

"My mental strength increased by thirty points. The essence truly lives up to its name as a top-tier alchemical material. It saved me over a hundred years of meditation!" Richard exclaimed. "And my constitution increased by nearly twenty points. Using my adaptive body passive, who knows how long that would have taken!"

Stretching, Richard prepared to examine the crystal shards he had collected from the Forerunner relic.

The shards seemed to be of extraordinary material, and being from Forerunner instruments, they might still hold storage chips or other hidden treasures.

But before he could retrieve the shards, the communication crystal in his pocket lit up.

"Wizard 7531, you are now being urgently summoned."
