Chapter 37: Kakashi and Sasuke
In the evening, Shikamaru and Choji returned to Yamanaka Flowers, bringing along Hinata, Kiba, and Shino. They were discussing buying some flowers to visit Sasuke.
Seeing that everyone was going to visit, Ino agreed to go to Konoha Hospital with them, feeling it wouldn't be appropriate not to go as a classmate. However, they still had to pay for the flowers. Even between siblings, accounts should be settled clearly. They each took out their money; she didn't let Shikamaru, Choji, or even Hinata off the hook.
"You, pay up!" She extended her hand towards Shino Aburame.
Shino Aburame, wearing sunglasses and a hood covering most of his face, standing in the corner, was startled: "That's not fair, why do you only notice me when it's time to pay? Is this some special ability of yours?"
Ino herself also found it strange: "Yeah, isn't it a coincidence? I don't know why, but I saw you at a glance. Don't try to get away with it, quick, pay up."
"...Fine."
It wasn't wartime, so there weren't many patients in Konoha Hospital.
Ino came to visit as if nothing had happened. Seeing Sakura crying her eyes out in the ward, she couldn't help but take a closer look.
Sasuke was lying on the hospital bed with lifeless eyes. Looking closely at his eyes, there was no sparkle at all. Ino was taken aback, what was going on? Had he reached the ultimate form of the Mangekyou Sharingan and gone blind?
She immediately realized the crisis. If Sasuke went blind, who would Naruto's bond be with? Could Naruto still reach his original heights? Who would seal Kaguya Otsutsuki in the future?
This was also one of the reasons why she held back when fighting Sasuke, afraid that she might use too much force and kill the savior, which would lead to her own misfortune.
"Hey, why so down? This isn't the Uchiha Sasuke I know." She said.
Sasuke turned his head to look at her.
Ino focused and looked carefully, only then did she see clearly that the school heartthrob wasn't blind, his eyes were just gray and cloudy, as if he had cataracts. He actually still had vision and wasn't blind.
She was a bit puzzled: "...Why did you become like this?"
Sasuke was still arrogant: "None of your business!"
Ino hadn't studied medical ninjutsu, nor had she experienced awakening her eyes. At this moment, she didn't want to meddle in other people's business. It was best if it had nothing to do with her. If he said it was related to her, she would find it troublesome.
She casually said some polite words: "Well, you look pretty good. Alright, get some rest..."
"Hey!" Sasuke suddenly called out to her and said, "Use that secret technique from the other day on me again."
"Now?" Ino didn't want to be slashed by Indra's chakra again for no reason. She shook her head: "I refuse. That kind of secret technique is not suitable for use in a competition between classmates, and you need to recuperate now, not fight with me."
"Are you scared?"
"...Hehe, whatever you think. If you think so, then so be it, I don't care."
With Sasuke's "everyone owes me five hundred bucks" look, Ino really wasn't interested in talking nonsense with him. She went outside the ward and talked about business with Shikamaru.
"Sigh! Did you talk to Uncle Shikaku about renting out the house?"
Shikamaru leaned against the wall and said lazily: "Yes, we can handle this ourselves, but the clan won't provide too many houses. After all, renting out too many houses will cause some troublesome influences."
Ino was very interested in collecting rent, while Shikamaru was too lazy to move. After some discussion, Shikamaru finally handed over all the houses Shikaku had allocated to him to Ino to manage. They would split the profits 60/40, with Ino taking the larger share.
"Don't set the rent too high." Shikamaru reminded.
Ino waved her hand: "I know, I know."
Ninjas were definitely high-income earners in this world, but most ninjas lived a tight life, and the commoners at the bottom were even worse off.
Konoha Village was located in the Land of Fire, where the weather was favorable and the land fertile, so the income situation was slightly better, but only slightly. Renting houses to a group of civilians wearing straw sandals and cloth clothes wouldn't actually earn much money.
Ino sighed heavily, she was really too poor.
Ino only stayed in the ward for five minutes before leaving. Shikamaru and Choji followed closely behind. They were all teenagers. When Sasuke said he wanted to take on the three of them, Shikamaru was actually quite unhappy. High IQ didn't mean no temper. It was his own business if he didn't want to fight, but if Sasuke looked down on him, then they had to have a talk.
Choji, on the other hand, had a gentle personality, was kind to others, never argued with anyone, and had a first-class temper. But he and Shikamaru were best friends. If Sasuke made Shikamaru unhappy, don't expect Choji to give him a good look.
When Sasuke retrieved the mission scroll, he desperately fought Jirōbō for Shikamaru's sake, not for Sasuke's.
The three of them left, and Kiba Inuzuka also left the ward with a few other classmates.
No one knew when Shino Aburame left.
Sakura, Hinata, and the other girls were the last to leave.
Sakura really wanted to peel an apple for Sasuke, but seeing his face as calm as a dead person, she ultimately didn't dare to go over.
She had been quite busy recently, practicing tree climbing, practicing water attribute chakra nature transformation, determined to catch up with Ino. These things took up most of her energy. Her body was too tired, and her mind had no time to think about love.
The ward quickly quieted down. Sasuke stared at the ceiling with lifeless eyes, no one knew what he was thinking.
"Yo, young man, how's your recovery going?" Kakashi appeared at the window and greeted him.
"Who are you?"
"You were unconscious at the time, so you probably don't recognize me. I'm here to help you. I owed the Uchiha clan a big favor back then..." After a simple opening remark, Kakashi stated his purpose.
He was entrusted by the Third Hokage to assist Sasuke in awakening his Sharingan.
Sasuke didn't care who Kakashi was or what he had done, he only cared about his own eyes.
He asked coldly: "What exactly is wrong with my eyes?"
Kakashi scratched his head. There were too many things he couldn't say, at least he didn't know how to explain Itachi's part. After considering his words, he decided to shift the blame.
"...This is very troublesome to explain, but seeing how you are, it won't do if I don't make it clear. Alright, let me start from the beginning. That young lady from the Yamanaka clan used a secret technique to take over your body, and then..."
Downplaying the severity, he didn't mention Itachi Uchiha and the ocular power at all.
Don't ask, if you ask, it's because your body is special.
Sasuke had actually been quite puzzled. Why did Ino's secret technique suddenly fail that day? He couldn't figure it out. Combining it with Kakashi's words now, he felt that he had the answer: "You mean outsiders can't take over an Uchiha's body, and if they do, they will suffer backlash?"
Is that what I meant? Kakashi was really too lazy to explain, whatever you think. Being possessed once was enough, no one else would try to possess your body, right?
