Chapter 38: Chapter 38: Renting and Training
Chapter 38: Renting and Training
Kakashi didn't want to explain too much to a twelve-year-old. His mission this time was half official, half personal. His friendship with Obito Uchiha was part of the reason, but Sasuke was ultimately not Obito.
Naruto had an everyman's face. Tsunade saw him and thought of her younger brother, Sai saw him and thought of Shin, Obito saw him and thought of his younger self. A bunch of people saw his back and thought of all sorts of relatives, including but not limited to father, brother, and son. It was as if Naruto had a constant, weakened version of Kotoamatsukami on him, making everyone want to chat with him and reminisce about the past.
Sasuke didn't have this ability. Kakashi didn't bother with excessive pleasantries and beckoned him to follow.
The two left the hospital and soon arrived at a cave in the back mountains of the village.
Kakashi said straightforwardly: "Lord Hokage ordered me to help you awaken your Sharingan. I don't quite understand how your clan awakens their eyes, I can only provide some assistance. If you don't mind, shall we start now?"
Sasuke lacked trust in Kakashi, a stranger, but he craved power even more, he yearned for the Sharingan. Ino, whom he usually looked down upon, had made him so miserable, he couldn't wait to awaken his Sharingan immediately.
Kakashi formed hand seals with both hands: "I'll briefly explain the process. Part of the chakra in your eyes and body has been sealed. I need you to bypass this area, connect with your eyes, and then directly awaken them. To do this, I need to use genjutsu to stimulate your spiritual energy. My genjutsu level is only average, I need you to cooperate with me. Remember, completely relax your body and let my genjutsu affect you..."
Sasuke thought carefully for a few seconds. Perhaps the two were naturally compatible, he had a certain degree of trust in Kakashi. This trust wasn't high, but at this time, there weren't many choices.
"I understand, let's begin."
Time passed day by day.
Kakashi was training Sasuke to awaken his Sharingan. Ino was very attentive to the matter of renting out houses and collecting rent. After getting the keys to a total of fifteen vacant houses from the Yamanaka and Nara families, she started looking for tenants.
What did the Yamanaka family do? They were responsible for intelligence work.
Ninjas didn't care much about the lives of civilians, but they could find out who had rental needs and who was relatively wealthy. This was also one of the reasons why Shikamaru handed over the work to Ino and became a hands-off boss. His father was the Jonin squad leader, the Hokage's advisor, a high-ranking and powerful figure, but he usually didn't deal with these trivial matters.
Ino, based on individual needs and actual family income, made precise moves. After two days of planning, on the morning of the third day, she took "clients" to see the houses.
"Everyone, look to my left, these three houses are all available for rent. Look at this location, adjacent to the commercial district, Konoha's most famous flower shop, Yamanaka Flowers, you know? It's in the northwest direction of this block. If you walk 120 meters north from here, that's the Ninja Academy. As parents, you must hope that your children receive an excellent education and grow up in a safe environment, right? Let me tell you, the teachers of the Ninja Academy all live nearby, the weakest ones are Chunin! Think about it, your children will be taught and protected by Chunin. Is there a safer place in the Land of Fire than this?..."1
Ino was eloquent, talking endlessly about the many benefits of "school district housing".
From commerce, to convenience, to children's schooling, she explained the value of the houses from many aspects. When the villagers asked about the rent, she avoided the topic, only hinting that the rent here was relatively expensive, and they should be mentally prepared...
In one morning, five of the fifteen houses were rented out.
Actually, for her, it would be more profitable to let these tenants buy the houses.
No problem if they lacked money, she could provide loans, and "pass the debt on" wasn't out of the question either. Ino wasn't worried about people defaulting on their debts. Would a few civilians dare to fight a ninja? I can't beat Kaguya Otsutsuki, but can't I beat a few of you civilians?
It was just unnecessary to do so. Selling houses now was really too unconscionable.
Orochimaru's Konoha Crush plan was at most half a year away. By then, the village wouldn't necessarily be completely destroyed, but at least several blocks would be destroyed by those giant snakes rolling around.
Originally, when Itachi Uchiha and Kisame came during the Hidden Mist Village arc, they just strolled around and basically didn't do anything. Now it was hard to say, Sasuke looked so miserable, what if there was a butterfly effect?
Kisame, with his "who needs a dam anyway" attitude, maybe Konoha would be destroyed again by more than half.
The dam builders left, and three years later the rice carriers came...
Persuading people to buy houses in the disaster-prone Konoha Village was definitely something that would be struck by lightning. Ino still had a bottom line, renting was fine, buying a house was absolutely unnecessary.
"Oh my god! Why can't I make you understand? This house is only for rent, not for sale!" Several villagers, hearing about the many conveniences of the "school district housing", were excited and, with the mentality of bargain hunting, kept clamoring to buy. She repeatedly refused.
She couldn't explain it clearly after talking for a whole noon. The more she refused to sell, the more they wanted to buy.
Her firm attitude indirectly proved the value of the houses. Originally, only five houses were rented out, but in the afternoon, when she parted with the house viewing group, all fifteen houses were actually rented out!
One-third of the rent had to be handed over to the clan, and 40% of the remaining part had to be given to Shikamaru. The amount wasn't much, but fortunately, this income was stable. Before Orochimaru came to cause trouble, the rent could somewhat compensate for her increasingly thin wallet.
After settling the rental matters, she went to the Nara house. Money matters still needed to be clarified in advance, but when she arrived at the Nara house, she learned that Shikamaru had been taken out for training by the elders in the family.
Good heavens! Such a guy who always complained about trouble was also so fierce when he got serious!
She left a note, clearly writing down all the rental details, and then hurried home. She also had to go back to train.
Not to mention anything else, she had been practicing Water Release these two days, and she felt that her Water Release would soon be upgraded to lv2.
Judging from the values of the eight ninja attributes, Ino was already similar to relatively strong Genin like Kankuro and Temari, but if they actually fought, she estimated that she still couldn't beat Temari.
Temari was three years older than her and Shikamaru. The difference in strength between a fifty-three-year-old and a fifty-year-old wasn't big, but the difference between a four-year-old and a one-year-old was huge. Temari was originally good at strong offensive Wind Release ninjutsu, had specialized ninja tools, and also had a summoning beast. If they faced off now, Ino wouldn't win at all. Temari had already been a ninja for two years and had done many missions, she was good at a lot of ninjutsu. Ino and her friends hadn't even graduated yet, how could they fight?
Ino's stats were enough, but she still knew too few ninjutsu.
In the original timeline, Shikamaru being able to force Temari to that extent through step-by-step calculations was truly amazing, you had to admire him.
