Work Prophet

Chapter 81 Lannita Going Crazy

It had been almost a month since Lannita was captured.

The Wing Clan girl had been detained in the dungeon beneath Teacup Castle ever since, attempting escape, but the guards tasked with watching over her numbered sixteen in total, rotating in shifts of four on the clock.

Day and night, someone was always watching her.

Lannita couldn't speak the Universal Language of the Continent and therefore couldn't threaten or bribe the guards; those men barely had any interaction with her besides maintaining eye contact.

No matter how loudly Lannita screamed or bitterly she wept, they remained indifferent.

The handcuffs on her wrists, the heavy shackles on her feet, and the specially crafted lock for her wings finally made the girl give up any thought of escaping from there.

However, the man who called himself the Prophet did keep the promise he made that day; he did not kill Lannita. He didn't even interrogate her but arranged for a Herbalist to regularly check on the girl to ensure she wasn't falling ill.

Though the food was nothing lavish, there were no deductions made, and Lannita ate the same meals as her guards; bread, along with vegetables, fish, and pork, which alternated every other day.

Still, Lannita felt she was going insane.

She didn't know who her biological parents were, having been adopted by Sibulun from a young age. Ever since then, she had been viewed as Sibulun's daughter in the eyes of outsiders, which shaped her proud nature.

Afterward, a tragic accident one rainy night after a banquet filled Sibulun with guilt towards her.

From then on, there was nothing Lannita wanted that she didn't get; no one could stop her from doing whatever she wished.

And two years ago, she became the disciple of Amos, a White Robed Wizard. With the backing of the Wizard Association, even Sibulun felt wary towards this daughter.

Following this, Lannita's endeavors always went smoothly, and everyone she encountered treated her with respect until she came to the West and suffered her first defeat in life.

Not only did she lose the White Dragon, but she also became a prisoner overnight and completely lost her freedom.

This was the first time she was confined in such a narrow and dark cage, stripped of her innate right to fly.

She felt her wings would mold, so after finishing her lunch, she started shouting Merlin's name, clutching the wooden bars of her cell.

Lannita wanted to see the prophet from the Double Rest Sect again, to ask him how long he planned to keep her confined.

She shouted until her throat was almost smoking, but the guards remained indifferent.

Just as the girl was exhausting and about to give up, the great door of the dungeon finally opened again.

A large wooden basin was brought down.

Following were two Maids, who poured two buckets of steaming hot water into the wooden basin, then went outside to fetch well water, mixing it together.

Lannita squinted her eyes because she again saw a familiar figure appearing at the dungeon's door.

"It's you, Yaxu, you finally remembered to come see me. I thought you would be too ashamed to see me again for betraying me, betraying our clan, Mother Goddess Gaia."

Upon hearing this, Yaxu's face instantly flushed red, "I...I had no choice, Lord Lannita."

"I originally thought you could come up with a fresher excuse. All traitors justify themselves this way. When you repeat it often enough, you can even convince yourself,"

The girl leaned her face close to the wooden bars, "But answer me, Wing Clan Warrior, are you afraid of death?"

"I... I do not fear death; otherwise, I wouldn't have risked coming to this continent seven years ago, hiding here," Yaxu said, puffing out his chest subconsciously.

"What about the incident at Black Stone City then? Was luring me into the trap of the Double Rest Sect due to some personal vendetta?"

"It's complicated," Yaxu said seriously, "Anyway, you...we should heed Prophet Merlin's advice, abandon the attack on the western borders, and it would be best to persuade Solomon to take what's left and return to our original continent."

"You're talking about the Hardland Continent?" Lannita sneered, "That place is filled with barrenness and disasters. Although Mother Goddess Gaia still watches over us, the land beneath our feet has abandoned us.

"Crops die off in vast amounts, branches bear poisonous fruit, lakes are drying up, and the game we can hunt becomes scarcer. Now look here, this land is practically flowing with milk and honey.

"Those farmers only need to scatter the seeds and wait for the harvest. They even use surplus grain to make wine, and the cities are full of drunken nobles. Their rivers are teeming with fish, and the woods are full of wild boar and deer.

"What's more important is the natives here; they are so feeble that we can easily defeat and enslave them. Neither Solomon nor Sibulun would pass up the fat meat delivered to their mouths."

However, Yaxu said, "That's just the surface. This place has the Double Rest Sect, with their Sabbath, which is extremely dangerous, more dangerous than any disaster we've encountered."

Lannita shrugged, "I lost to that guy called Merlin, and I admit he's got something. But... it won't stop our plans.

"From what I know of Solomon, he must be leading his army here by now, and soon both Merlin and the Double Rest Sect will crumble under our absolute power."

The girl paused, then continued, "The key now is how I can save my own life in the forthcoming battle.

"If that Lady Ireya or Merlin thinks victory is hopeless, and they kill me before dying themselves, I'll be at a huge loss.

"So Yaxu, I need your help," the girl said bluntly, "Just help me escape, and I'll erase your betrayal, even cover up your association with the Double Rest Sect.

"Hmm... let's say you deliberately infiltrated Merlin's side to gather intelligence. You know who I am, the backing I have."

Yaxu shook his head, "I won't help you escape."

Lannita punched the wooden bars, "Great, your foolish decision is going to get us both killed. If that's the case, what are you doing here?"

"To make the final effort to save you, save our clan."

"Don't you find it ironic to hear that coming from a traitor?"

Yaxu did not answer Lannita's question, a strange mix of disappointment and sadness crossed his face.

The Wing Clan girl disliked the look in Yaxu's eyes but he offered no further explanation, simply throwing a clean cloth in front of Lannita.

"Take a bath, then put this on."

"Why, is tomorrow my day to die?"

"No, Prophet Merlin is ready to fulfill his promise to send you back to Solomon,"
