Chapter 82: The Demon
The Wing Tribe girl couldn't believe what she was hearing.
An unexpected gift from heaven seemed to have fallen into her lap.
Just a moment ago she was wracking her brain on how to escape from this place, but now, the problem that had been troubling her had disappeared.
Yaxu even stepped forward to release her from the handcuffs on her wrists, the shackles on her legs, and removed the yoke from her back.
And Lannita didn't hesitate to strip off all her clothes, spreading her wings wide, quickly occupying half the corridor.
The girl let out a satisfied hum, and as Yaxu turned to leave, Lannita stopped him, "Don't be in such a hurry to go, my question isn't finished yet."
"You can ask after your bath," Yaxu said.
"It doesn't matter, I don't mind being seen while bathing," replied Lannita as she stepped into the wooden tub, one long leg at a time.
"The Double Rest Sect and the Arias family suddenly being so kind this time, let me guess, is it because our people are about to arrive in the West Territory?"
Yaxu nodded, "Lord Solomon is personally leading the army this time, with ten thousand Wing Clan Warriors, and has even gathered one hundred thousand allies to rescue you."
The girl chuckled lightly, "Solomon is not so kind-hearted. He is not here to save me, but to resolve any potential threats that might arise; that man is always this way.
"He's more cautious with his opponents than anyone else, and that's why I say the Arias family and the Double Rest Sect don't stand a chance. Solomon won't make mistakes, so don't expect him to show any flaws."
Yaxu was non-committal.
But by this time, Lannita was already soaking in the tub, not bothering to look at Yaxu's expression, reasoning to herself, "Merlin plans to release me, it looks like they've realized they can't win this fight"
"But it's a bit too late to bow down now, Solomon won't spare them, unless..."
The Wing Tribe girl paused, "Unless I'm willing to plead for them and if they're willing to swear allegiance to me, I might be able to use the influence of the Wizard Association..."
"Lady Lannita," Yaxu had to interrupt the Wing Tribe girl's reverie, "Prophet Merlin and Sir Irelia are not planning to surrender to Solomon. They're still looking for and summoning allies to prepare for the upcoming battle."
Lannita was taken aback, "Then why did Merlin release me?"
"To make a trade with Solomon," came Li Yu's voice from outside the dungeon.
"You plan to trade me for money?"
"No, I intend to trade you for time with Solomon. As long as he agrees not to send troops to the West Territory within seven days, I will release you."
"Solomon isn't someone who likes to make deals," said Lannita.
"For your sake, he will. He's already caused Sibulun to lose a son. If he lets Sibulun lose a daughter too, his troubles will be great. And it's just a truce for seven days, which doesn't harm him at all."
The Wing Tribe girl thought it over and, grinning, said, "You're right, Solomon won't refuse. But what does that mean for you? In seven days you're still going to die."
"That's my problem to solve," Li Yu said indifferently, "Wait till you're finished with your bath, then we'll leave."
...
Li Yu didn't bring many people with him this time; he was going to negotiate with Solomon. Apart from Lannita, who was a bargaining chip, Miss Rabbit was also indispensable.
In addition, Li Yu planned to bring Zhu Zhigang, who was mainly responsible for ensuring Ireya's safety.
As for additional guards, it was meaningless.
Because this time, Li Yu planned to ride the White Dragon directly, and besides Zhu Zhigang, no one else had the ability to engage in aerial combat. It was better to reduce the load on the White Dragon's back so they could retreat in time if any issues arose.
Before departing, Li Yu made another trip to the dungeon; he still had one most important matter to attend to.
The Wing Tribe girl was already cleaned up by then, redressed in clean clothes, and in quite a good mood, even humming a little tune.
Upon seeing Li Yu, she smiled and said, "It's a pity, I actually appreciated you quite a bit, especially interested in the Transformation Magic you used that night. If only you could serve me..."
But she only got halfway through her sentence before Li Yu interrupted her.
"Hold her down."
Afterward, two Black Hound guards stepped forward. Lannita had been locked up in the dungeon for a month, and although she hadn't been subjected to any mistreatment, the lack of exercise had dulled her responses, no longer as agile as before.
And now in the dungeon, her wings weren't much use, and soon she was pinned down to the ground by the two guards.
"You could have been gentler," the Wing Tribe girl maintained her smile, "after all, I'm about to be free. I wouldn't foolishly resist at a time like this."
But the guards didn't understand her words and put her back into shackles and handcuffs.
Then, following Li Yu's command, one guard took hold of each of her arms, pinning her down, leaving her unable to move.
Li Yu then opened the white portable cooler he carried with him, a piece of equipment he had purchased from the Forging House app for 188 points of faith.
Its function was simple: a portable mini-fridge that could be set and regulated to maintain temperature, appropriately named "Insulated Carry-Cooler."
And the reason Li Yu bought this mini-cooler was that viruses often require cold storage to maintain their pathogenicity.
He put on a pair of medical rubber gloves, then took out a disposable syringe from another bag and tore open the packaging.
Cautiously, he opened the white cooler and injected the chilled viral solution into the syringe.
By now, Lannita was starting to feel that something was amiss. Although she didn't recognize the white mini-cooler and its contents, the cautious manner in which Li Yu was handling it instinctively made her sense danger.
So she dropped the excited look on her face and said in a low voice, "What exactly are you planning to do to me?!"
"As far as I know, neither you nor Solomon are the type to keep promises, so I need to add some insurance to our deal," Li Yu replied.
"What is insurance?"
Li Yu signaled a guard to roll up the Wing Tribe girl's sleeve and inserted the needle into her skin.
"Next, I will impose on you a curse peculiar to the Double Rest Sect. If Solomon and his army do not uphold our agreement and attack the Western Border within seven days, the curse will take effect, and you will die," Li Yu explained.
Prophet Merlin, as he spoke, pushed the liquid from the syringe into the girl's body.
Lannita let out a moan, "Do we really lack trust between us that much?"
"Indeed, so to survive, you'd best urge Solomon to keep his word," Li Yu said, after completing the injection, then cleaned the area near the puncture with an alcohol swab.
Prophet Merlin's eyes were complex, for he knew he had personally released a demon.
This wouldn't only be the apocalypse for those of the Wing Clan. In the long years to come, this demon would bring endless disaster and death to the Continent.
