Chapter 86: The 7-Day Promise
"To put it accurately, I'm not from this world," Li Yu said.
Lord Solomon scoffed, "You should save your spiel about coming from the Divine Country for your followers."
"You don't believe it?"
"Let's all be honest for once," the Wing Clan Commander said.
"The purpose of your and my arrival on this continent is the same; it's conquest. The only difference is you want the people here to worship your God, while I not only want them to worship my God but also to become slaves and servants to my clan."
"It sounds like our differences are quite significant," Li Yu said. "Indeed, I want the people here to become followers of the Sabbath, but in return, I've brought the seeds of civilization and the valuable concept of the weekend to this continent, whereas all you bring is slaughter and destruction."
"All order is born from slaughter and destruction. Even you, when you found out you were about to lose to me, resorted to threatening me with some Divine Punishment, didn't you?"
Lord Solomon said dismissively.
"This isn't a threat; if you're not going to stop here, then I can only bring destruction upon you," Li Yu said earnestly.
"Is that so? Let's see you try."
Lord Solomon seemed to lose interest in the conversation in an instant, waving his hand to summon an interpreter to bring Redio forward. "Where is Lannita?"
Li Yu didn't answer immediately but first asked the young Sabbath, "Are you alright? Have they mistreated you?"
Redio looked somewhat frail, needing support to stand. He grimaced as he spoke.
"Just minor injuries. I did as you instructed; they know they have to keep me alive, so they dare not go too far. Actually, I quite enjoy how they itch to kill me but can't, " he said.
"You've had a tough time this round. Your mission is complete. Go back and rest well, Mary will issue your reward," Li Yu said.
After finishing, the Double Rest Sect's Prophet also waved his hand, and Zhu Zhigang led the Wing Tribe girl out from the barn.
"Lord Solomon." Lannita managed to stand unassisted, though she looked pale; the violent jostling during the recent battle with the triple-headed giant dragon had made her vomit again.
"Lady Lannita, you have suffered," the interpreter quickly greeted her. "Lord Solomon personally led the army here to the western borders for you. This time, he will certainly avenge you."
Lord Solomon said, "Your people for my people, let's proceed quickly. Afterwards, we can meet on the battlefield."
"Are you forgetting something? For a deal to be made, there's one more condition—you must not attack the western borders for seven days."
The Wing Clan Commander frowned, "Why would you make such a pointless request? Even if I give you seven more days, it will not change your fate."
"It's the will of the Sabbath."
"That's not fair," Lord Solomon said. "We both have what the other wants, why should I agree to your additional demands?"
"Because our bargaining chips are not of the same weight, and... you still fear Sibulun," Li Yu retorted.
Hearing this, the Wing Clan Commander gave Li Yu a piercing look. "It appears you have also put in a lot of effort to understand us. Very well, I'll add two more people on my side.
"Kieren and Silver Hand, those two minstrels are also your people, right? Return Lannita to me, and I can assure you I won't chop off their heads when I get back."
"How about it, three for one, you've already made enough profit."
Actually, Lord Solomon was not sure whether Kieren and Silver Hand were indeed spies of the Double Rest Sect. At this moment, he threw out their names to see Li Yu's reaction.
Unperturbed, the Prophet of the Double Rest Sect responded, "You can have their heads chopped off right now, but you still need to agree to my terms."
A hint of murderous intent flashed through Solomon's eyes. Just as he was about to say something, his words were interrupted by a voice, "Agree to it."
"What?" the Wing Clan Commander turned to look at Lannita.
She repeated, "Agree to it, Solomon, unless you want to face the wrath of my father and the Wizard Association. All you need to do is delay the attack for seven days, which is no loss to us."
Solomon fell silent for a moment, then raised his head to look at Li Yu, "You will get what you want. But in seven days, I will lead my army to flatten the western territories."
After he spoke, he gestured to the interpreter to release Redio's arm. Redio staggered, nearly falling to the ground, but Zhu Zhigang's quick reflexes helped him steady.
Meanwhile, on the other side, the coachman and the interpreter escorted Lannita back. They carefully escorted the Wing Tribe girl into the carriage.
Solomon, however, did not get into the carriage. He did not want to share a ride with the Wing Tribe girl, worried he would be harassed on the return trip.
Therefore, he simply spread his wings and flew toward the Fertile Corner. The carriage followed him and soon left as well.
Only when their figures disappeared at the village entrance did Miss Rabbit put away her dueling pistol and crawled out of the barn.
"Do you think they will keep their promise?" the girl asked Li Yu.
The Prophet of the Double Rest Sect shook his head, "I don't know, but for her own life's sake, Lannita will likely do everything she can to stop Solomon from deploying his troops, especially since she's still under my curse."
The main reason Li Yu wanted to delay the Wing Tribe people for another seven days was to give time for the spread of the virus to become epidemic.
Obviously, the longer the delay, the better, but Solomon was no fool. If there were a large number of deaths, he would certainly become suspicious.
So, seven days should be enough.
Previously, Li Yu had been conducting experiments on the Wing Tribe people, mainly to find a disease that could spread extensively among them, had high lethality, and yet was less likely to infect humans.
His first thought was avian influenza, but after testing many subtypes of the virus, the results were not very satisfactory.
Fortunately, Li Yu later found that the Wing Tribe people were particularly susceptible to Newcastle disease.
This is a highly infectious, acute, septicemic disease in birds, also known as Newcastle Disease or Asian Avian Influenza.
The virus usually invades through the digestive and respiratory tracts, eye conjunctiva, wounds, and genital tract mucosa, spreading through the blood throughout the body, known for its high morbidity and mortality rates.
A member of the Wing Tribe infected with Newcastle disease for experimentation later ended up in the same place with three other Wing Tribe members, all of whom were subsequently infected and died without exception.
Of course, this does not mean that the mortality rate of Newcastle disease in the Wing Tribe is 100%, since Li Yu's sample size is too small.
But at least it shows that Newcastle disease is indeed very lethal to the Wing Tribe, and for now, there has been no news of human infections, so as long as there are no mutations during transmission, the people of the Bratis Continent should be safe for now.
