Chapter 122: CH: 121 Actually I Am A Bad Person
{Chapter: 121 Actually I Am A Bad Person}
Carlos could no longer hold back and exclaimed, "William, you need to follow the rules of the team."
"Heh, what if I don't?" William responded with an air of disdain, his tone laced with mockery.
Claire, clearly trying to maintain peace, turned to William and said, "William, we're in a tough spot right now. Please, just let everyone have a share of the food, alright?"
"No, it's not yours to take," William said, a smirk forming on his face. "But since it's Claire asking, I suppose I'll make an exception." 'This food... consider it a gift, a parting token before death.' His words dripped with an eerie kindness that felt hollow.
Claire paused, momentarily taken aback. "That's... surprisingly generous."
William leaned in slightly, his expression suddenly warm, completely at odds with his earlier demeanor. "What? You think because you're the leader, I'm supposed to be friendly? Well, that's not really how it works."
Claire was silent for a moment, then nodded. "On behalf of everyone here, thank you," she said, her voice steady though she seemed unsure of William's intentions.
"No need to thank me," William waved her off with a dismissive hand. "It's all for you, Claire. Now, if you'll excuse me, Gil, Terry—let's go."
Jill, watching the exchange closely, raised an eyebrow. "That's not like you. All the food? Just like that? I have a feeling this isn't just about Claire." There was a distinct edge of sarcasm in her voice.
William's eyes twinkled with mischief. "You'll understand soon enough. Everything has a price, Jill."
Terry, who had been quietly observing, couldn't help but ask, "What price? What do you mean?"
"All in good time," William said with a grin, turning away and leaving the question hanging in the air.
Jill narrowed her eyes at him, not fully trusting his cryptic response.
The three of them found a shady spot to rest, their quiet moment soon interrupted by a soft voice.
"Hey, I heard you gave away food. Thank you for that," came a voice from behind them.
William turned to see a beautiful blonde woman approaching. A mischievous glint flashed in his eyes. "You're the first one to thank me. That's nice. What's your name?"
The woman smiled warmly, a playful glimmer in her eyes. "I'm Kmart."
"Kmart? Interesting name," William mused, intrigued.
Jill couldn't resist, throwing in a sharp remark, "For some people, it's not the name that matters, but the person behind it."
William shot her a look of mock seriousness. "O Jill, you think too much."
Kmart's smile widened. "Can I sit here?" she asked, already moving to sit down beside William.
"Of course," William said, making space for her with a sweeping gesture. "Please, make yourself comfortable."
As Kmart settled beside them, she eyed William with curiosity. "I've heard things about you. Some say you're... not a good person. Carlos warned us to stay away from you."
William raised an eyebrow, his face taking on a slightly amused expression. "Oh? Really? And what makes you think I'm not what they say?"
Kmart tilted her head slightly. "I don't know, but I don't think you're the kind of person they make you out to be."
William leaned in a bit, his smile turning sly. "What makes you so sure?"
Kmart met his gaze, her expression unwavering. "I don't think you'll hurt me."
Jill exhaled loudly from her seat, smoke curling from her cigarette. "You don't have to worry, Kmart. If you're beautiful, he won't hurt you. He'll make sure your life is... comfortable."
"Haha, is that so?" Kmart laughed softly, her expression shifting from playful to something a little more somber. "I've seen a lot, lost a lot. Everyone I knew is dead now. The team found me in a mall, barely alive."
Jill's tone softened a bit. "Yeah, it's a rough world out here. But the lucky ones, like you, get found. Not everyone gets that chance."
Kmart rose from her seat, her posture straightening. "Thank you again for the food. It's the best I've had in ages. And I do believe you're not as bad as people say." She hesitated for a moment before adding, "I need to go check on the others, though. There's someone who fainted."
As Kmart walked away, William muttered to himself, almost inaudibly, "Actually, I'm not a good person at all."
---
Meanwhile, Alice stirred, her eyes fluttering open as she gazed at the cloth ring adorning her wrist.
"Hey," she whispered, her voice soft.
Alice blinked at the ring, her fingers lightly brushing it. "Is this yours?" she asked.
"Yes," Kmart's voice came from nearby. "I gave it to you. It's supposed to bring good luck. My name is Kmart."
Alice smiled faintly. "Thank you. I hope it does bring good luck."
Alice sat up slowly from the debris around her, the remnants of the old world scattered in pieces.
---
Outside, the two women, Alice and Kmart, walked side by side. As they made their way through the camp, Carlos caught sight of Alice and glanced at Claire with a surprised expression.
He walked toward them with Claire by his side. "Alice, this is Claire. She's the leader of the team."
Alice nodded politely and extended her hand, which Claire took in a firm shake. "Thank you for everything you've done for us," Alice said.
"Of course," Claire replied, offering a smile. "We're just doing what we can."
Just as Claire was about to say something else, she was called away, her attention momentarily diverted. "Sorry, I have other matters to attend to."
Carlos remained, now alone with Alice.
As they continued their conversation, a voice suddenly interrupted them from behind.
"Well, well, looks like you two are having a nice chat. Should I leave you two alone?" The voice carried a hint of amusement and malice.
Alice stiffened at the familiar voice. "William," she muttered under her breath.
William appeared before them, a confident smile on his face. "What's the matter, Alice? You seem a little tense. Are you excited to see me?"
Alice, trying to hide her unease, turned to Carlos for confirmation. "Carlos, is this true? Is William really part of the team now?"
Carlos gritted his teeth, unwilling to show weakness but not entirely thrilled with the situation. "Yes, he is," he said stiffly.
Alice's gaze flickered back to William. "So, what's your game? How did you get here?"
William's smile deepened, his eyes glinting with a mix of mischief and mystery. "Oh, I'm part of the team now, Alice. Didn't you know? I've been here for a while. Aside from that Alice, aren't you afraid of being found?" William pointed his finger at the sky."
Alice's complexion changed, and she looked at the smartwatch on her wrist, relieved. "You don't have to worry about me," she said, her voice steady but wary.
"I know what you've been up to," William said with a knowing look. "You download the Umbrella Corp's satellite routes to avoid their pursuit. But don't get too comfortable. Those routes... they can change."
Alice's expression faltered for a brief moment, her concern obvious. "What do you mean by that?"
William chuckled lightly. "Nothing, just a little warning. But don't worry about it." He turned and began to walk away, his figure receding into the distance.
Alice watched him go, her mind racing with the implications of his words. "No matter what your intentions are, William, I won't let you succeed," she murmured under her breath.
