Chapter 123: CH: 122 Zombie Feast
{Chapter: 122 Zombie Feast}
"This radio is the one I've seen and serves as the best proof of life."
Inside the convoy's car, the main members of the team were deep in a heated discussion over Alice's note.
"Alaska?" Claire shook her head, disbelief evident in her voice.
"We have to go and see; we can't just ignore this," Alice insisted, her voice firm.
"Do you even realize what kind of journey this is going to be?" Claire seemed to oppose the idea strongly.
"I know," Alice replied, her tone unwavering. "This will be a long journey, but it's worth it."
"Now that you understand, you should also understand that you can't prove someone else is alive there," Claire said, her voice slightly rising with a mix of frustration and concern.
"These radio displays," Alice began, but Claire quickly interjected.
"These are records from six months ago. How many radio calls have we responded to? How many times have we been too late?" Claire shot back, her patience clearly wearing thin.
Alice, however, remained steadfast. "These radios show that there is no contamination there. It's safe, isolated from the rest of the world."
"The people in this convoy are under my protection. They don't need some wild dream to distract them," Claire retorted sharply, her expression hardening.
William, sitting beside them, couldn't help but chuckle. "Can I say something?"
"Go ahead," Claire snapped.
"I think many of these people are living in despair," William said with a thoughtful look. "It's always good to have hope. If you keep living in this bleak, stagnant situation, you're going to die soon anyway. Hope is still worth talking about, even if it's a distant dream."
Alice turned to William, a surprised look crossing her face. "I didn't expect you to say something like that."
"Let's go, Claire. Ask the rest of the group if they're willing to take the risk. What we're doing here can't replace their judgment." William's tone softened as he addressed Claire, urging her to consider the people they were leading.
Claire paused, clearly weighing her options. After a moment of silence, she nodded. "Alright, we'll do it your way."
All the remaining survivors were gathered together, and after a brief exchange of thoughts and opinions, Claire stated her purpose clearly. After some discussion, they rallied behind her, and everyone supported the idea.
"Now that everyone's agreed, let's head to Alaska," Claire announced confidently.
---
Later that night, the team's core members gathered around, strategizing their route to Alaska.
"Food and gas are running low. We need a lot more supplies if we're going to make it all the way," Claire said, her brow furrowed with concern.
"I've only got half a tank of gas left," Carlos replied.
"My tank can only take us a hundred kilometers. We're screwed," Alice added in frustration.
Carlos spread out a map, carefully examining the area. "We can try getting supplies from some of these locations. The safest bet might be here."
"No, it's empty. I've already been there," Alice said with a shake of her head.
"Then what about here?" Carlos asked, pointing to another location.
William leaned forward, a wicked grin playing across his face. "Can I speak now?"
"You've got something to say?" Claire asked, narrowing her eyes.
"These small towns are useless. They're dried up and provide nothing. We need to head for the big cities. The nearest one is Las Vegas."
Carlos stared at him in shock. "William, what are you trying to do? Do you have any idea how dangerous those big cities are? Zombies everywhere! Are you trying to get us all killed?"
"Carlos," Claire interjected, her voice calm but firm. "In the past six months, we've scavenged every town within reach. We've got no choice but to head to the big cities."
"But the zombies…" Carlos protested, still skeptical.
"There's something we need in Las Vegas, and I agree with Alice," Claire said with quiet conviction.
William's eyes glinted with a strange, unsettling excitement. "I don't think I'll talk anymore, it's hard to be a good person, I'm going to bed, you go on." 'You should figure out the 'death journey.' It should be a real adventure.'
---
The next morning, the convoy began its journey toward the nearest big city: Las Vegas. Meanwhile, high above the desert in a hidden base, two helicopters lifted off, each carrying a large container, heading toward Las Vegas.
Inside the convoy, LJ's face was pale. His eyes were heavy, his thoughts distant, but he remained silent. He had been infected with the T-virus after being bitten at the Desert Boat Hotel, yet he had never spoken about it.
A broken building appeared in the distance, with yellow sand swirling through the air. The once-bustling gambling city of Las Vegas now looked more like a barren desert wasteland.
"Is this really Las Vegas?" Terry asked from the back of the car, his voice tinged with disbelief.
"The desert's taken over here," Jill replied quietly, staring out the window.
"How can there be no zombies around?" Terry asked, raising an eyebrow.
"They've been cleared out," William said with an odd calmness.
"Cleared out?" Terry echoed, confused.
"Remember those zombies we fought off? They eat zombies too," William replied with a chuckle.
"Wait, so there are no zombies here?" Terry asked, his hope beginning to rise.
"Who knows?" William said with a sly smile.
The convoy came to a halt in front of a gas station, now buried under yellow sand. A large container blocked the entrance, preventing the vehicles from entering.
"Fucking Goddamn it," Claire muttered as she climbed out of the car. "Get rid of that thing. We need to move."
The group quickly went to work, clearing the debris and assessing the situation.
William, who had approached the container, raised an eyebrow. "This container looks like it was intentionally placed here. What's inside?"
"Don't touch it," Alice called out from behind.
"Even if I don't touch it, do you think they won't come out?" William smiled, his voice laced with mischief.
Alice shot him a sharp glance. "You know what's in there, don't you? You proposed coming to Las Vegas because you intentionally led us here." Alice said angrily.
William smiled, his grin widening. "That's right. This is a special zombie feast, just for you. especially prepared by someone to capture you my dear They're all yours. Consider it the perfect ending for this little death journey. Death journey, if there is no death, what would I do?"
Thump!
The iron door of the container slammed to the ground, and for a moment, all was silent. Then, a blood-curdling roar filled the air as a horde of zombies surged out. These were no ordinary zombies; these were enhanced, faster, and stronger than any they had encountered before.
These zombies are no longer ordinary zombies, but are carefully raised zombies.
The battle for survival had just begun.
