Chapter 392: The final missing
Hikaru pondered for a while, deciding what to choose, and was just about to speak when Tierra suddenly interrupted his thoughts.
"Hikaru."
"What is it?" Hikaru looked at Tierra.
"You know exactly what those options refer to, don't you?" she asked, rather than answering.
Hikaru thought for a moment and nodded.
Unless they pulled out some absurd cards he'd never seen before, like the Light of Destruction had, Hikaru knew what they were.
"Then I suggest you don't pick the last few."
"Why?" Hikaru was a little surprised.
Tierra rarely offered advice on such matters, so if she brought it up, she must have a reason.
"I know you're eager to meet that peerless alchemist, Professor Banner, again. But before that, there's one last flaw you need to fix."
"I have a flaw?"
This was the first time Hikaru had heard Tierra say that.
Tierra raised her hand, tracing names in the air while reciting: "Fusion Material,Shaddoll and LIGHT,El Shaddoll Construct; Fusion Material,Shaddoll and DARK,El Shaddoll Winda; Fusion Material,Shaddoll and FIRE,El Shaddoll Grysta; Fusion Material,Shaddoll and WIND,El Shaddoll Wendigo; Fusion Material,Aleister the Invoker and EARTH,Invoked Magellanica."
As she named them, Hikaru's spirits repeated the names under their breath, searching for the problem. When she finished, even Fullmetal Alkahest and the Golden Idol understood what she meant.
He was missing one!
Hikaru's Six Elements were short by exactly one!
"So that's it…" Hikaru rubbed his chin.
Tierra had mentioned this once or twice before, back when Jaden's fame briefly eclipsed Hikaru's after his graduation duel with Zane.
She'd told him, "That human's almost collected them all, and you're still missing several."
Looking back now, Tierra was right.
These Fusions, each requiring a specific material plus a monster of a certain Attribute, were important to both Jaden and Hikaru.
Especially with Super Polymerization.
In a way, it was also training for using Super Polymerization.
Even though not all of them were Shaddolls, the logic was the same.
And now, the one Hikaru lacked was Water.
"In that case, Mr. Battler, I'll choose Invoked. Can I specify the Water Invoked?"
"Of course,Master Crowley instructed us that apart from challenges in the Realm of the Spellcasters, you can choose freely from all others. After all, you're a genius alchemist he greatly admires."
"And besides, we've done little research on Fusion, so if you'll cooperate with us, we'd be thrilled." With that, he pointed the two spirits toward the reading area, then told Hikaru to wait.
Fullmetal and the Golden Idol went off to read, while Hikaru waited quietly. Battler went to contact his colleagues and returned about ten minutes later, leading Hikaru to the third floor by elevator.
After several twists and turns, they arrived at a huge room like a coliseum.
Hikaru noticed that heavy chains were stacked along the walls, with mages busily enchanting the surroundings.
A red-haired mage cautiously stepped to the center of the arena. The others finished their tasks and hurriedly retreated behind the barriers.
It looked like the mage was Breaker the Magical Warrior.
She placed a heavy Spellbook in the center. Soon, the sound of flowing water echoed through the room as she chanted. A giant ring appeared in the air, followed by a blue arrow.
Streams flowed through the air; a pair of red eyes lit up, then water formed a body, wings, and finally, a massive Water Dragon appeared.
"Fall back!" Battler shouted next to Hikaru, as Fals quickly left the arena after summoning.
"So your Invoked are kept sealed?"
"Invoked are special spirits, they can't evolve through magic training, only occur naturally," Battler explained. "So we can only use Spellbooks to summon those our Tower has sealed or found drifting in the void."
Hikaru nodded.
As Battler spoke, the Water Dragon roared and lunged at Hikaru. He sidestepped the attack.
Tierra watched, amused. "Good, good, bite him!"
Hikaru rolled his eyes.
With a flick of his left hand, his Duel Disk deployed automatically. As the dragon turned, he drew a card sharply from his Deck.
Invocation!
Holding the card up, the dragon instinctively recoiled. The glow of Invocation made it blink, and it backed off before exhaling and watching Hikaru from afar.
"Calmed down yet?" Hikaru casually slid Invocation back into his Deck.
Now, in a "psychic duel," he could draw exactly what he wanted from his Deck.
It wasn't too extraordinary, but it was on par with Axel instantly having bullets ready or Jaden summoning Neos with a gesture.
The Water Dragon rubbed its eyes with a claw and glanced at the surrounding mages. They didn't show much expression, just taking notes in Spellbooks or discussing its traits.
It growled lowly, then looked at Hikaru, its anger intensifying as it roared to the sky.
"I see," Hikaru quickly grasped its feelings. "Don't worry,I wasn't sent here to fight you."
It seemed the mages sometimes summoned these Invoked for tests and experiments, so the Invoked didn't think well of them, hence its anger and immediate attack.
"I am Hikaru Amaki, a duelist seeking the pinnacle of Fusion,a human duelist." Hikaru brushed a hand before him, the Super Polymerization card hanging from his chest swaying and chiming, catching the dragon's attention.
After introducing himself, he continued, "If you want, you can come with me. That way, you won't be studied here, and you could see other, broader worlds in different dimensions."
"ROAARRR!" the Water Dragon bellowed, summoning torrents from all directions that converged into countless cards floating before it.
"So, you're saying that while being summoned occasionally is annoying, you won't just leave with me, right?" Hikaru nodded. "Fair enough. Then… let's duel!"
