Chapter 32: TST [32]
Morgan flipped over the drawn card, and from the corner of her eye, she glanced at it—a smile instantly blooming on her face.
This was exactly the key she needed to turn the tide!
Mr. Grant had no cards in hand, and Ultimate Ancient Gear Golem on the field was his final gambit. As long as she removed it, there would be no more suspense in this match.
The crowd clearly understood this as well. They held their breath, all eyes fixed on Morgan's petite figure, as if it housed a force far greater than its size suggested.
"I'm so nervous! Even more than when I watched the Duelist League finals!"
"I can't tell who'll win in the end. Who are you rooting for, Mr. Grant or Morgan?"
"Morgan, obviously! Just for that monster earlier alone, she's my goddess!"
"Yeah, and those little animals are adorable too! Go Morgan!"
Gradually, cheers besides Jade's began to rise from the audience. No one knew exactly when it started, but Morgan's image had shifted in their minds—from underdog to genius duelist, one of the top at the school.
Seeing Morgan's growing popularity irritated Isla. She preferred the time when no one liked Morgan… back when she had every opportunity to have her all to herself.
But now that more people liked Morgan, the time she could spend with her would shrink.
She needed to find a way to isolate Morgan from the others…
Oddly enough, Jade was thinking the same. She had once been the only one cheering for Morgan, the only voice Morgan could hear.
However, now, with so many other voices, hers was lost in the crowd.
'You bandwagoners, what are you shouting so loudly for? Weren't you just calling Morgan dead weight a moment ago? How quickly you turn!'
Glaring at the crowd, Jade raised her voice even louder.
"I activate the Quick-Play Spell Card [Melffy Tag] from my hand!"
"Target 1 [Melffy] monster in my Graveyard; Special Summon that target—I Special Summon [Melffy Catty] from the Graveyard!"
A fluffy kitten reappeared on the field.
Seeing this monster, Mr. Grant looked surprised. He had thought Morgan would revive Melffy Mommy again, but instead, she brought back a relatively weak monster.
Then he remembered that Melffy Mommy required Xyz Materials to activate its effect, and realized the move made sense.
After all, that Spell Card could only revive a monster—not its attached materials. Still, did she plan to fight Ultimate Ancient Gear Golem with that tiny creature?
While Mr. Grant was puzzled, Morgan had already prepared the next link in her chain.
"I Special Summon [Alpha, the Master of Beasts] in Attack Position!"
[Alpha, the Master of Beasts] Level 8│EARTH│Beast│3000 ATK
A majestic lion appeared on the field. Its mane burned like fire, fangs bared, and deep crimson wings spread from its back.
The sudden arrival of this Level 8 powerhouse shocked the spectators. They had expected Morgan to continue chaining moves, but not this sudden arrival.
"This card cannot be Normal Summoned."
"If your opponent controls monsters with a total Attack higher than the total Attack of the monsters you control, you can Special Summon this card."
With Morgan's explanation, the crowd understood.
Ultimate Ancient Gear Golem had 4400 Attack, far higher than Melffy Catty's. Morgan had cleverly exploited the low Attack of her own monster to meet the Special Summon condition.
Milo gave a slight nod. Morgan's deck may have been weak, but even a weak deck had its own way of fighting. Morgan had proved that perfectly.
Despite that, though this monster had high Attack, it wasn't strong enough to defeat Ultimate Ancient Gear Golem.
And Morgan knew that. Her goal in summoning Alpha wasn't brute force—it was its effect.
"I activate the effect of [Alpha, the Master of Beasts]!"
"Target any number of Beast, Beast-Warrior, and Winged Beast monsters you control; return them to the hand."
[Melffy Catty] turned into a stream of light and returned to Morgan's hand—now the setup was complete. The true effect of Alpha was ready to go!
"Then, return an equal number of face-up monsters your opponent controls to the hand."
"I choose your [Ultimate Ancient Gear Golem]!"
"What?!"
Mr. Grant's face turned pale.
A thunderous roar erupted from Alpha. Its crimson wings whipped up a tempest. The earth quaked, and under its howling gale, Ultimate Ancient Gear Golem's body began to crack and fade.
But since it was a Fusion Monster, it wouldn't return to the hand, but to the Extra Deck.
[Alpha, the Master of Beasts] is a versatile field-clear card in Beast decks, and also pairs well with Kaijus—Morgan had used its effect to perfection.
Now that his final trump card had been broken, Mr. Grant's arrogance and superiority were gone. His face was ashen, and his lips trembled.
Morgan's combo had shattered both his pride and his hopes for the future. He looked like he'd aged ten years in an instant.
The spectators were stunned into silence.
She dismantled Ultimate Ancient Gear Golem in a single turn!
So this was Morgan's true strength!
