Inside the ancient tower illuminated by soft lights, a crowd surrounded Mo Yu, who sat with his eyes tightly shut, whispering and chuckling amongst themselves.
"Step aside, Elder Liu is here."
A voice commanded from outside the crowd, and a path was quickly cleared.
An elderly man in plain clothing walked in, his eyes crinkling in a smile as he glanced at the immobile Mo Yu. He chuckled, "This youngster certainly doesn't know his limits. Entering the Blazing Sky Qi Refining Tower without warning… he's paid quite a price for it."
But just as he finished speaking, Mo Yu's body stirred, and his silver eyes slowly opened, releasing a sharp aura that sent chills down everyone's spine.
"Oh? Such strange eyes… and to have regained consciousness on his own after the first burning of the Heart Flame—impressive," Elder Liu commented, slightly taken aback.
Seeing Mo Yu recover without needing help, some of the students seemed to recognize him and exclaimed, "That's Mo Yu, the freshman who defeated Bai Cheng!"
"Mo Yu?"
At the mention of this name, the surrounding students looked surprised. Clearly, this name wasn't unfamiliar to them.
In just a single day, the entire Inner Academy knew about this new student who, in only a few days, had defeated Bai Cheng, who was ranked 34th on the Strong List. Mo Yu had set a record unheard of in Jia Nan Academy.
Now, when the crowd looked at Mo Yu, there was no trace of mockery—only admiration and respect.
Jia Nan Academy may have been a gathering place for geniuses, but there were ranks even among them, and Mo Yu was clearly among the best.
While everyone chattered, Elder Liu looked at Mo Yu with surprise. "So, you're Mo Yu?"
"And you are?" Mo Yu asked, calmly restraining the aura within him as he looked at the curious elder.
"I'm Elder Liu, the guardian of the first level of the Blazing Sky Qi Refining Tower. You may call me Elder Liu," the elder said with a smile.
"Guardian of the tower?"
Mo Yu murmured to himself, nodding as he realized Elder Liu likely thought he was struggling with the Heart Flame's heat since it was his first time in the tower.
"Thank you for your concern, Elder Liu," Mo Yu replied gratefully.
Elder Liu chuckled, "It's rare for a freshman to beat a student on the Strong List without needing assistance to recover. Looks like the Inner Academy has found a true prodigy."
"Elder Liu flatters me," Mo Yu replied, staying calm and humble. Then he seemed to recall something. "Elder Liu, do you know which level Bai Cheng usually trains on?"
"Bai Cheng?" Elder Liu thought for a moment. "He was ranked 34th on the Strong List and always trained on the sixth level."
"The sixth level. According to the academy's rules, since I defeated Bai Cheng, I should be ranked 34th, which means I can also train on the sixth level," Mo Yu said with a slight smile.
"Well, technically yes, but since you're new to the Inner Academy and unfamiliar with the Heart Flame, perhaps you should start on the first or second level?" Elder Liu suggested.
Mo Yu shook his head confidently. "Don't worry, Elder Liu—I can handle it."
Seeing Mo Yu's determination, Elder Liu sighed and decided not to argue, knowing that individuals like Mo Yu had remarkably strong wills.
Elder Liu glanced around, his eyes landing on a young woman in a silver robe. He smiled and said, "Come, Mo Yu, let me introduce you to someone."
He led Mo Yu to the young woman in the silver robe.
"This is Han Yue. She's been in the Inner Academy for three years and is your senior. She's quite powerful and has established a group called Moon Spirit here in the Inner Academy. It's a formidable force that few dare provoke," Elder Liu introduced with a smile.
"Oh?"
Raising his brow slightly, Mo Yu studied the woman named Han Yue before extending a hand with a smile. "Hello, Senior Han Yue. Thank you for taking care of Xiao Yu in the Inner Academy."
Seeing Mo Yu reaching out, Elder Liu almost intervened. He knew that Han Yue, who had an extreme aversion to physical contact with men, would likely refuse.
Yet, before he could say anything, Han Yue hesitated briefly before a delicate wrist, pale as jade, slipped from her sleeve. In Elder Liu's astonished gaze, she gently shook Mo Yu's hand and spoke in a voice as cool and clear as a mountain spring.
"Hello."
Around them, surprised glances fell on their joined hands, and some even stared at Mo Yu with hints of envy.
Watching Han Yue shake hands with Mo Yu, Elder Liu was momentarily taken aback. Then, understanding flickered in his eyes, and he chuckled. "Mo Yu, you're one of the few men in the Inner Academy who's managed to shake hands with Miss Han."
"That's an honor," Mo Yu replied with a smile, releasing her hand politely after a moment.
"Junior Mo Yu, you're the first person in academy history to enter the Inner Academy by directly challenging a Strong List student. No wonder Xiao Yu speaks so highly of you," Han Yue said softly.
"Just luck," Mo Yu replied casually.
Han Yue's face froze for a moment, her thoughts churning. If defeating Fu Ao was luck, then what about Bai Cheng, who wasn't much weaker than herself?
"A true prodigy has arrived at the Inner Academy," Han Yue thought silently.
"Oh, by the way, Han Yue, Mo Yu wants to train on the sixth level. Since you often train there, perhaps you could accompany him?" Elder Liu suggested.
"To the sixth level already?" Han Yue's brows raised in surprise, but then she nodded, a faint smile appearing on her lips.
"Very well. I'll take Junior Mo Yu to the sixth level," she agreed.
"Thank you, Senior Han Yue."
With Han Yue leading the way, the two of them made their way to the sixth level in about five minutes.
As they entered the sixth level, Mo Yu took in the spacious and empty surroundings of the tower. "The environment here truly befits the Inner Academy's strongest elites," he thought.
The sixth level was expansive, with pale red stone walls radiating a strange warmth that filled the air with a cozy sensation. However, the space, though wide, was sparsely populated.
This wasn't surprising, as the sixth level had stringent entry requirements. Even some ranked students weren't qualified to enter, so the lack of people made sense.
After a brief look around, Mo Yu and Han Yue walked straight toward the center of the sixth level.
As they reached the core area, they arrived at a small resting plaza where about a dozen figures were scattered. These people exuded a powerful aura, their presence casting a formidable atmosphere over the resting area.
As Mo Yu stepped into the rest plaza, the scattered murmurs instantly fell silent. Several pairs of eyes, which seemed calm but hid a sharp edge, turned toward him. Their gazes lingered on Mo Yu with a hint of surprise, and a low murmur arose.
"A mere Three-Star Dou Ling? When did someone of that level qualify for the sixth floor? Has the Inner Academy lowered its standards?"
This reaction didn't surprise Mo Yu. Although he'd gained some fame in the Inner Academy, he'd only joined recently. Meanwhile, those who occupied the sixth floor would often retreat for ten days to half a month at a time. It was only natural that they hadn't heard of him yet.
While they might not know Mo Yu, his companion Han Yue was well known to them. Seeing the two of them together, some eyes gleamed with curiosity.
Mo Yu didn't bother explaining. Everyone on the sixth floor was an elite of the academy; he knew he didn't yet possess the strength to overwhelm them.
Looking toward the row of cultivation rooms, Mo Yu asked, "Are all these cultivation rooms available? Any restrictions?"
"Of course," Han Yue replied with a faint smile. "There's no high, medium, or low rank on this floor; all rooms are reserved for those on the Strong List. However, the quality of each room depends on your ranking."
"You replaced Bai Cheng, so you're currently ranked thirty-fourth on the Strong List. Your designated room is over there."
Han Yue pointed toward a corner of the plaza, where a single cultivation room stood isolated. Though it was more ornate than the ones on the previous floors, it was still simpler than the rooms across from it.
"There are numbers on the doors. The higher your ranking, the better the room. Training in one of the top ten rooms is at least twice as effective as training in room thirty-four."
She looked at Mo Yu with a knowing smile. "With your talent, Mo Yu, it won't be long before you can experience the benefits of a top-ten room."
Mo Yu smiled lightly. "Thank you for the kind words, Senior Sister Han Yue."
He cupped his hands in gratitude, then turned toward his cultivation room.
As he pushed open the door, a brilliant red light surged out, forcing him to squint momentarily. When his eyes adjusted, he found himself gazing at the interior of the room with growing admiration.
The spacious room was filled with a thick, red mist. He could only see a couple of meters in front of him; beyond that, the dense mist obscured his view.
"What dense energy!"
Feeling the rich power in the room, Mo Yu nodded in satisfaction and stepped forward. Wading through the mist, he soon arrived at a dark stone platform in the center of the room.
From Han Yue's earlier explanation, he knew this platform was for consuming Fire Energy. The cost of training on the sixth floor was thirty days' worth of Fire Energy each day.
Gone was the initial sense of wealth he'd felt after accumulating seven hundred days' worth of Fire Energy—it would only last him about ten days here. To sustain this level of training, he'd need a steady income source.
Setting aside such concerns for now, Mo Yu swiped his Red Fire Crystal Card, deducting thirty days of Fire Energy. Instantly, a mass of invisible Heart Flame ignited near his heart, while surges of pure Thunder Soul energy began flowing through his meridians.
"The purification effect on this floor is truly powerful. At this rate, I'll be able to convert all the Thunder Soul energy into my strength within a year…"
As he felt his power gradually increase, Mo Yu couldn't help but feel a surge of joy.
In the past, when he was only at the Da Dou Shi level, he had no choice but to seal away the overwhelming power of the Vermilion Burning Sky Thunder and absorb it slowly.
This Thunder Soul energy was vast, enough to help him advance to the Dou Wang or even Dou Huang ranks, though it would typically take several years to absorb it fully.
But with the Blazing Sky Qi Refining Tower's assistance, that time could be reduced to just a year. How could he not be excited?
Under the fierce purification of the Heart Flame, the Thunder Soul energy was being absorbed more than ten times faster than before. However, the scorching temperature occasionally caused piercing pain to radiate through his meridians.
Although the pain was uncomfortable, Mo Yu didn't let it slow him down. He maintained his focus, channeling Dou Qi from the six remaining spikes on his Sea Urchin like Dou Crystal.
He understood that with each level increase in his Dou Ling rank, one of these energy spikes would retract into the crystal. Once he retracted all six, he would finally reach the Dou Wang level!
With the fierce Heart Flame on the sixth floor assisting him, Mo Yu could faintly sense the sixth energy spike gradually shortening. Perhaps, once it fully retracted, he'd reach the Four-Star Dou Ling rank.
Time flowed unnoticed during intense training, especially when one could feel their Dou Qi growing stronger each day.
After a day, Mo Yu noticed that his sixth energy spike had shortened by a quarter. Satisfied, he nodded—at this rate, he might reach Four-Star Dou Ling in just three more days.
The combination of Thunder Soul energy and Heart Flame made for terrifyingly fast progress!
Shaking his head, Mo Yu reminded himself that, while breakthroughs were tempting, his priority now was gaining control of the White Gang.
After all, only with an established force could he secure a steady supply of Fire Energy for ongoing training. He knew he had to get his priorities straight.
As Mo Yu exited the room, a sudden childlike voice echoed through the plaza.
"Who are you? And why do you carry an aura that feels somewhat familiar?"
The voice was crisp and pleasant, but as it resonated through the plaza, every other face—except Mo Yu's—turned pale. Eyes shifted sharply to a small figure standing at the door of another cultivation room.
