Chapter 233: [233] Playing Goblin Slayer in the Military Camp!

Chapter 233: Playing Goblin Slayer in the Military Camp!

After receiving permission from the Duke of the Southern Region, Durin arrived at a desolate area located dozens of kilometers away from the southernmost city.

This was where the border guards of the Southern Region were stationed.

Accompanying him was Daphne, the Duke's daughter, who had volunteered to guide Durin into the military camp.

As soon as they entered the camp, Durin saw a tall, blond man drilling his soldiers. Noticing the two approaching, the man exclaimed in surprise:

"Daphne, why are you here? And who is this?"

Before the blond man's surprise could deepen, Durin quickly replied:

"I'm Durin Edward of the Edward family. I'm here for a specific purpose, and Daphne was kind enough to bring me along."

"You're the Durin from the Edward family?"

The blond man's astonishment was evident. After gathering his thoughts, he introduced himself:

"Nice to meet you. I'm Brando Constantine, Daphne's elder brother and the eldest son of the Duke's family. I'm also currently a captain in the border guard."

"I see."

Durin was taken aback to learn that this man, whose appearance bore little resemblance to Daphne aside from their hair color, was her brother. After a brief pause, he couldn't help but mutter:

"It seems you're the one."

"???"

Brando was confused by Durin's cryptic remark. Without hesitation, Durin clarified his intentions.

When Brando learned that Durin had come to find actors, he was stunned.

This was, after all, a border guard camp situated hundreds of kilometers from the nearest city.

Moreover, films were a recent phenomenon, having only gained traction in the past six months, and few people even understood what the concept entailed.

Given the circumstances, Durin pondered for a moment before deciding that actions spoke louder than words. He resolved to show these border guards firsthand what a film truly was.

Durin used a teleportation array to retrieve the imaging crystal, while Brando, still somewhat confused, gathered most of the soldiers in the camp and set up a makeshift screen suitable for projecting the movie.

By the time evening approached, Durin returned to the scene with his tools prepared.

"This is what you call a movie?"

Hearing Brando's question, Durin smiled and held up the small imaging crystal, replying:

"This is the medium for movies. Don't worry, it's going to be fascinating and exciting."

"This…"

Brando, still skeptical, nodded hesitantly.

Although he found it hard to believe that such a small crystal could provide anything entertaining, Durin had been recommended by his father, the Duke of the Southern Region.

Trusting this, Brando chose to remain silent and quietly waited on the sidelines.

Meanwhile, at Brando's summons, the border guards stationed at the camp all gathered, each of them staring in confusion at the erected screen and the crystal in Durin's hand, unsure of what was about to happen.

"Captain Brando, what's the reason for calling us all here so suddenly?"

As he spoke, a tall man walked over from a distance.

Brando smiled and replied, "Ah, Josen, this is Durin Edward, a renowned young mage from the Southern Region. On my father's recommendation, he's here to show us something called a movie."

"A movie?"

Uncertain about what a "movie" was, Josen blinked in confusion.

Durin, however, looked at the man before him and nodded in satisfaction, feeling reassured that his intuition had been correct—there were indeed people among the Southern Region's border guards who fit the profile he was looking for.

As more soldiers gathered at the site, their faces were filled with confusion. It was clear they couldn't understand why, during their only free time after dinner, they had been summoned here so abruptly.

Their expressions soon turned to visible displeasure.

While their discipline as soldiers prevented outright rebellion, negative emotions quickly began to build across the crowd.

Seeing the growing unease, Captain Brando initially intended to step in and restore order, but Durin stopped him and instead stepped forward to address the soldiers himself:

"Soldiers of the Southern Region Border Guards, good evening. I am Durin Edward, of the Edward family. I hold immense respect and admiration for all of you who defend our land and protect our people. To express my gratitude, I've brought something special to share with you—a movie that has become incredibly popular across the Southern Region. I hope it will bring a little enjoyment and relief to your otherwise monotonous lives on the border."

With that, Durin took out the imaging crystal under the curious gazes of the soldiers and placed it on a pre-prepared stone platform.

As he channeled a small amount of magic into the crystal, a dim image began to appear on the distant screen.

"This is Goblin Slayer, a movie that premiered in the Southern Region six months ago. I've brought it here especially for all of you. Please look forward to it."

After finishing his brief speech, Durin stepped back, leaving the soldiers staring at him in confusion and skepticism.

Their faces betrayed their doubts about what this strange "movie" could possibly be.

After all, they had never heard of a "movie" before and had no idea what it was supposed to be.

Coupled with the inherent tension between knights and mages, most of the soldiers felt little interest in the so-called movie Durin was presenting.

"What is this nonsense? A movie? Just another useless magical trinket, isn't it?"

"Isn't Captain Brando the son of the Southern Duke? Why does he even need to give face to this baron?"

"I think I've heard of Durin Edward—he's supposed to be that famous magical prodigy from the Southern Region, isn't he? Rumor has it he became a Grand Mage at a very young age. In terms of status, he's probably on par with Colonel Roy, right?"

"A Grand Mage? Then why has he suddenly shown up in our military camp?"

"Hah, probably because the high-and-mighty mage thinks he's above everyone else and wants to show off his abilities and talents. A 'movie,' huh? Sounds boring. I wouldn't watch it even if you paid me."

"Exactly. Mages are just a bunch of people who think they're superior because of their innate abilities. I couldn't care less about anything they create."

"..."

Prejudiced comments like these spread among the soldiers.

In this world, where mages held a natural monopoly on their craft, tension between ordinary people and mages had always been a lingering and undeniable reality.

However, due to the Empire's long-standing advocacy and the undeniable role mages had played in numerous wars to defend the nation, most people still held a degree of respect for them.

That said, in the eyes of these soldiers, who also saw themselves as protectors of the Empire, mages were nothing more than cowards who wouldn't dare step onto the battlefield.

Of course, despite their tough talk, as the plot of Goblin Slayer began to unfold, most of the soldiers couldn't help but shift their gaze toward the distant screen, gradually becoming engrossed in this thing called a "movie."
