Chapter 13: [13] New Babysitter
A/N: I'm back bitches! sorry that it took so long for me to update, I had a whole 4-5 semester history class crammed into a one-month winter semester.
Lots of boring reading...I hated it.
Anyways, now that I don't have to write a mini essay everyday day of the week for a whole month, I will be able to write more once again.
Also, I recently went to the "Distant Worlds" Final Fantasy live orchestra in Los Angeles, and I loved every single second of it.
I don't know if you've notices, but I LOVE FF 16. (I quite literally gave the MC a power from FF16 as one of his main skills)
Anyways, glad to be back!

-3rd POV-
"Fuck, that was close," muttered Meliodas with a sigh of relief, Crepus's body slung over his shoulder.
From the shade of the trees, he looked up, his eyes boring straight into the wyvern that now faced away from them.
When Ursa unleashed its flame breath for the second time, Meliodas had protected them with a shield crafted from [Reishi]. Once the fiery onslaught ended, he used the ash and smoke in the air as cover to move to another location and hide.
But why wouldn't Meliodas fight Ursa, especially when he had been eager to do so earlier?
It was because of Crepus.
There are a few things one should know first—things Meliodas knew all too well.
Lore-wise, not long before the events of canonical Genshin Impact, Dottore had been the one to kill Ursa. That act placed Mondstadt in a precarious position, forcing them into reluctant debt to the Fatui.
But knowing Dottore, wouldn't he have wanted to experiment on a specimen like Ursa?
Of course, he would. In fact, he already had.
Going further back to the Genshin manga—specifically to the day Crepus was supposed to have died—it's clear the Fatui had a hand in his demise. Their involvement came in the form of an autonomous flying robot bug, emblazoned with the Fatui insignia.
The device had followed Crepus's caravan until the Hilichurls attacked and Ursa arrived. Its presence during the assault was no coincidence.
When Crepus attempted to fend off the wyvern with his Delusion, the bug-bot performed some sort of Delusion-jamming maneuver, rendering his Delusion useless. That was when he died.
Now then:
Ursa = Dottore
Dottore = Ursa
Ursa = Crepus's Death
Crepus's Death = Dottore
It was easy to connect the dots and identify the master of the evil wyvern.
But this revelation only compounded the problem. Crepus was clearly entangled with the Fatui. Considering he had been given a Delusion, his rank must have been significant. In fact, Meliodas suspected Crepus to be a Fatui Harbinger.
And he was right.
This meant that as long as Crepus was alive, Dottore wouldn't give either of them a moment's peace.
That's why Meliodas allowed Ursa to "kill" them with fire—to fake both Crepus's death and his own.
After a few moments of watching the wyvern from a safe distance, Meliodas began sneaking away, Crepus slung over his shoulder like a sack of potatoes.
-Meliodas POV/2 Days Later-
The whole of Mondstadt was thrown into shock when news of Crepus's death was announced.
Surprisingly, he was a well-known and well-liked figure here in Mondstadt.
It's been two days since his "death," and today, they're holding a funeral for him—even though there's no body. All that was left behind was Crepus's Delusion, which I had deliberately placed for Diluc to find.
I stood at a distance, concealed behind a tree, watching the ceremony. Diluc and Kaeya looked utterly soulless as they each placed a single flower on top of the growing pile atop Crepus's casket.
"Sigh... I wish I could do more for them," Crepus muttered beside me, his voice thick with self-blame. He was wearing a mask to conceal his identity.
"Well, you probably should have realized that leaving the Fatui doesn't come without consequences—especially not when you're a Harbinger," I replied, my tone sharp enough to make him wince.
Crepus managed a wry smile, running a hand through his now-blue hair. "I know. But a man can hope, no?" His gaze never left his sons.
After saving him, I had taken him to my house and hidden him in plain sight—with a disguise, of course. His once fiery red hair was dyed blue, and a mask concealed his rugged features. Even with a few wrinkles from age, Crepus was undeniably handsome—like, Gallagher-level old man handsome.
"I guess," I said with a shrug. "Had enough?"
It was getting late, and dinner was waiting. Knowing Sleipnir, he was probably struggling to keep up with the kids' boundless energy.
Crepus let out a heavy sigh. "…Yes, for now," he murmured, reluctantly tearing his eyes away from Diluc and Kaeya. He turned and began walking back toward my house.
I sighed too, leaning back against the tree as I watched him leave.
This must be hard for him, but he has no choice but to push through. Keeping his distance from Kaeya and Diluc is the best decision he could have made.
Who knows what kind of insane things Dottore would do if he discovered Crepus was still alive?
-3rd POV-
To say this "family" was weird would be an understatement—at least, that's how Crepus felt.
First, there was his "master," Meliodas Pendragon. An enigmatic boy—if he could even call him a "boy" in the first place. He might not look it, but his knowledge and skills were far beyond his years. That wasn't even counting the strange abilities Crepus had seen him use. Perhaps Meliodas was one of those magical beasts that hid among men in human form.
Second, there was a silver-haired man with a peculiar accent named Sleipnir. He seemed to act as Meliodas's right-hand man, always carrying out his orders with unwavering dedication.
Sleipnir had his own peculiar abilities, such as controlling darkness and... turning into a horse. Crepus decided it was best not to ask any questions about that.
Then there were the ridiculous number of children Meliodas was raising. None of them looked remotely like him, so Crepus could only assume he had taken them in.
Crepus only hoped he wasn't raising them to be soldiers or spies like the House of Hearts had done.
"Mister…"
A small voice pulled Crepus from his thoughts, accompanied by a gentle tug on his leg.
Looking down, he met the wide eyes of one of Meliodas's children, Mitsuri.
"Try it!" she beamed, holding out a donut with both hands.
She must have just made it in the kitchen with her father.
Crepus smiled faintly as he took the donut from her and took a bite.
"Mhm~ It's good!" he praised, his voice warm.
Mitsuri's smile brightened even more at his words, and she skipped away happily.
Crepus watched her go, a small, light smile tugging at his lips.
'I guess this isn't so bad' he thought, the scene reminding him of when Kaeya and Diluc had been little kids themselves. Being a babysitter for whatever Meliodas was wasn't as bad as he thought it would be at first.
Infact, it came with benefits.
When Meliodas gave him a piece of his soul, the potential within Crepus's soul was unlocked. Meaning that he was now able to sense his soul and be able to manipulate its energy to an extent, something that Crepus would have never though he would have been able to do without the support of some sort of ancient godly item or the blessing of a god.
Besides the sudden power up, he also received something...weird from Meliodas.
From what Crepus had learned, he was bestowed a sort of bloodline?
He called it the "Blood of a Quincy". Through a special ritual which involved Crepus ingesting Meliodas's blood, he was able to obtain the bloodline and abilities of a Quincy. All thanks to Meliodas's bestowal ability.
Now he was able to control this sort of energy called [Reishi], a energy he had never heard before. To his knowledge it was a power special to whatever Meliodas was, and he didn't complain. Crepus now had a power that didn't make him rely on some item like his Delusion or some old gods remains.
Now he had the potential to come back to the light—to his kids—without the worry of being in the eyes of the Fatui.
