Chapter 605: Accepting his Requests
Seeing Luo Huian follow Doctor Tan, the three mers turned alert. They all went —I look at you and you look at me—before pulling Qi Yongrui into the room.
"We need to do something," Fan Meilin said to Qi Yongrui hurriedly. Of course, he trusted Luo Huian, as he knew that there was no way his wife would ever pay attention to that old and ugly mer, but when he thought about the gaze with which Doctor Tan was looking at Luo Huian, he couldn't ignore it. There was just something weird about that mer and the gaze with which he looked at Luo Huian.
It was as if he were looking at a woman whom he had dreamed of. This was something that Fan Meilin could never accept. It was true that he couldn't have children with Luo Huian, but he was not willing to hand his position to someone else; this was his own selfishness!
Beside him, Liao Liqin also nodded. He thought of how he couldn't say sweet words to his wife and how his relationship with his wife was the worst. Not to mention, his affair was known to Luo Huian. Even though he had never crossed his limits, no woman would be able to accept her husband trying to get close to another woman and to make matters worse, Du De was not even honest with him!
When Liao Liqin thought about it, his expression changed again and again. He couldn't let Doctor Tan seduce his wife before he could mend their broken relationship!
Qi Yongrui was speechless when he heard the words of the two mers. He raised his hand and rubbed his forehead before saying in a low voice, "What do you want me to do? It's not that I don't want to agree, but I cannot just agree. Huian is doing it for the kids; she had brought Doctor Tan here because she wishes to help the kids. Do you want me to interfere when I know that she is only looking out for the children?"
He paused and added, "Trust her a little, will you?"
Fan Meilin narrowed his eyes at Qi Yongrui before saying to him, "It's not Huian whom I don't trust. It's that mer. You all saw how he looked at her, didn't you? Do you really think that he would just drop the chance of getting close to her when she is alone with him?"
This time around, both Qi Yongrui and Liao Liqin turned to look at him.
On the other side, Luo Huian raised her head and looked at Doctor Tan, who was pouring two cups of green tea. She sat down on the couch and waited for the mer to speak.
Doctor Tan picked up the packet of biscuits and then turned around. When he saw Luo Huian sitting on the couch, he raised his brows and walked around the tea table before sitting down. He said to her, "You are either too foolish or you have no idea what and why I was fired from my previous hospital."
Luo Huian picked up the teacup that was sitting in front of her. She took a sip from it and then said to Doctor Tan, "I don't believe in rumours; the one thing that I believe in is my own judgement."
As she finished speaking, she blew on the top of the cup and took a sip of the tea.
Doctor Tan had barely taken his seat when he heard Luo Huian's words. He raised his head and looked at the woman in slight surprise as he asked, "And what is your judgement?"
"That you are a good person."
When Doctor Tan heard her words, he raised his head and looked at the woman as if he were seeing her for the first time. He stared at her for a long time before saying to her, "You are really foolish, aren't you?" he didn't mean to be harsh on Luo Huian, but something about her just made him feel a bit annoyed. He rolled his eyes and leaned back on the armchair on which he was sitting before saying to Luo Huian, "If not, you wouldn't have dared to say such a thing to me."
"Why not?" Luo Huian questioned. She didn't have the slightest idea about Doctor Tan and the things that he went through. However, she could see that the mer had never done anything to wrong anyone. He was kind when he needed to be and harsh when the situation required it; he had never done anything that could be said to be as bad.
As for why he had suffered at the hands of others, Luo Huian had no idea about it. She could only see that the mer had some difficult times that he needed to face due to his past life karma, but now those had passed as well. Thus, she knew that he was going to be fine in the future, unless something really crazy happened.
Doctor Tan chuckled as he raised his hand and took a sip of the tea. He didn't say anything to Luo Huian for a while. It was only when he was done drinking more than half of the tea that he pursed his lips and said to Luo Huian, "I didn't say it outside, but it's going to be difficult. The damage to the nerves of the child is really difficult. I didn't want to depress the child, as she is the patient, but the truth is that even with my skills, there is a 50% chance that the child might never be able to regain her past mobility."
Luo Huian was prepared to hear this. She had seen Nian Zhi's arm and knew that it would be a surprise that the child would be able to get better without losing anything. The injury was too severe for that, but as the child was a vessel for a Hollow, she had suppressed her doubts. Now that she had heard Doctor Tan say that the chances were only 50%, she was not that surprised.
"Did you ask me to come here because you wanted to tell me about the low chances?" Luo Huian asked with a tilt of her head.
"You are right, I didn't call you here to tell you this." Earlier, Doctor Tan was not only cheeky but also naughty; no one could say he was the same person now that he was looking at Luo Huian with a stern expression on his face. "The reason I called you here is simple. That girl… You should have noticed that there is something wrong with her."
Now Luo Huian was surprised because she didn't think that anyone other than her would be able to sense the difference in Nian Zhi.
"There is no need to look at me with such a shocked expression. I am a doctor. I can tell the difference in my patients with just one glance," Doctor Tan remarked with a roll of his eyes. He then crossed his arms and looked at Luo Huian before saying to her, "I am not saying that I am not going to treat her, since I came here with you, then I will certainly treat her, but Miss Luo… I hope that you will understand that I have no intention of putting my life in danger."
"You have to make sure that nothing will go amiss when I am treating that girl, because if something goes awry, then I am sorry. I will leave at the first chance. Because I am only a doctor, my job is to take care of my patients and treat them, but other than that, I have no other responsibilities."
Luo Huian nodded. "You don't have to worry about that."
"And one more thing," Doctor Tan remarked. He raised his hand and showed a finger to Luo Huian before saying to her, "I hope that I will only see the two children when I am treating the older one. I have no intention of getting to know either of them; do you understand? I don't want to waste my time getting to know someone whom I am going to forget in a matter of a few days."
"Alright," Luo Huian didn't find anything wrong with what Doctor Tan was asking her to do. She knew that his distaste for children was not something that he was putting on as a front; he truly disliked them. Since that was the case, she had no intention to make things difficult for Doctor Tan.
Anyway, as long as he was willing to take care of Nian Zhi's wound, she had no qualms fulfilling his requests.
Seeing that Luo Huian had accepted his request without any show of contempt or annoyance, Doctor Tan heaved a sigh of relief. In the past, many parents came to look for him but every time he put his requests forward, they would look at him as if he had uttered something wrong. Being treated as someone who hadn't done anything wrong, Doctor Tan was quite relieved.
"That is all–"
BANG!
