Harry Potter: Becoming a Study God

Chapter 347: The Werewolf Without a Full Moon

"Good job, Hagrid!" Professor Kettleburn shouted excitedly and waved his fist in the air. "Just like that! Smash its waist! Break its back! Punch it in the nose! Bash its head in!"

The Weasley twins widened their eyes in shock as they stared at the usually gentle and kind old professor. At that moment, they barely recognized him.

But Hagrid didn't follow a single one of those instructions. He simply held the werewolf by the tail, pressing its furry head against the ground—and then seemed unsure of what to do next.

The werewolf whimpered and growled, and its claws frantically scraped at the cobbled street.

"Agh! You soft-hearted brat!"

Professor Kettleburn urgently slapped George on the back. "Take me over there! I'll finish off that beast myself!"

George wasn't scared at all. He hoisted the professor onto his back and ran toward Hagrid, while Fred hurried to follow.

The old professor raised his wand.

"Wait, Professor!" Hagrid quickly tried to stop him. "This is—"

Just then, a flash of firelight suddenly interrupted him.

Appearing in the middle of Hogsmeade's street was none other than Dumbledore, still dressed in his pajamas and wearing a pointed sleeping cap. His phoenix, Fawkes, flickered for a brief moment before vanishing.

Dumbledore took a calm look at Hagrid, the werewolf pinned beneath him, and the surrounding chaos before asking, "Well done, Hagrid. And you too, Silvanus. Is anyone injured?"

Hagrid thought for a moment before shaking his head.

"What do you mean, no one?!" Professor Kettleburn huffed in frustration. "Aren't you injured?"

Hagrid wiped the dirt and blood off his face with the back of his hand and dismissed it casually. "Oh, this is nothing. Noberta's done worse before. Dumbledore, this werewolf—"

Dumbledore raised a hand, stopping him before he could continue.

"Take him to the Hog's Head Inn and wait for me there."

"Alright." Hagrid nodded.

He then lifted the werewolf into the air, holding it up high to completely avoid its claws and fangs.

The werewolf howled and struggled furiously, clearly unhappy with its situation.

But to Hagrid, this level of resistance felt no different than when Fang (his boarhound) threw a tantrum.

He patted the werewolf gently and said in a comforting tone, "Don't worry. I'll let you down once you're back to normal."

"ROOOOAR—!"

The werewolf, of course, was not comforted and roared in fury.

By the time Hagrid arrived at the Hog's Head Inn, he saw the innkeeper already standing outside, peering around nervously despite the warm summer night.

The moment the man spotted Hagrid holding a writhing werewolf over his head, his expression instantly turned as if he had just swallowed a mouthful of dung.

"I…" Hagrid hesitated before explaining, "Dumbledore told me to wait for him here…"

The gray-haired wizard looked even angrier. He said coldly, "Don't bring that thing into my inn. You'll scare away all my customers!"

"Oh..."

Hagrid thought about it and realized he had a point. But since he still had to wait for Dumbledore, he simply stood outside the Hog's Head Inn holding the werewolf over his head, looking as ridiculous as one could possibly imagine.

Werewolf: "Awoooo—!"

Innkeeper Aberforth: "..."

"Forget it. Just come inside." Aberforth sighed in resignation. "For someone so smart, why did he pick an idiot like you for this job?"

As Hagrid left, Dumbledore turned to Kettleburn and called out, "Silvanus!"

"What?" Professor Kettleburn replied warily. "I'm not a professor at the school anymore, so you have no right to reprimand me!"

"I'm not here to reprimand you." Dumbledore spoke calmly. "I need you to escort these two Weasley gentlemen back to school. Tonight is not a good night for them to be wandering around."

Despite Kettleburn having only one arm and half a leg, Dumbledore showed no hesitation in assigning him the task.

Kettleburn simply muttered, "That's fair enough—good thing Minerva isn't here."

He waved his wand, and a flattened wheelchair rolled out from who-knows-where, spinning as it landed in front of him.

Tapping the chair with his wand, it unfolded back to normal. Then he said, "Put me down, kid."

George said nothing and gently set Kettleburn back in the wheelchair. Fred, noticing a blanket caught on the armrest, pulled it free and draped it over the professor's knees.

"Alright, let's go, kind-hearted children." Kettleburn said.

The wheelchair started moving, and although Fred was reluctant to leave, he and George knew better than to argue in Dumbledore's presence.

George took the initiative to push the wheelchair, and after walking a short distance, he glanced back.

He saw several shopkeepers from the village gathering around Dumbledore, listening intently as the headmaster spoke to them in a calm, reassuring manner.

"Professor, what exactly happened? Can werewolves transform even when it's not a full moon?"

Tonight, the moon was only a waning half-moon—not even close to being full. In fact, the moon hadn't even risen yet!

Dumbledore gave a small smile and replied, "If I told you I don't know, would you believe me?"

Kettleburn was just as puzzled and said, "I was peacefully watching the Streaming Mirror at home when a crazed werewolf suddenly broke in. Then Hagrid— that reckless oaf— stomped on my wheelchair and nearly got me bitten!"

"So... if we want to know what really happened, we need to ask Professor Hagrid." Fred nodded, summarizing the situation.

"Exactly! That's right!" Kettleburn added. "Of course, Dumbledore arrived last, but he must know something too."

"Don't look at me like that. I have no idea how this happened."

In response to Aberforth's questioning, Dumbledore said calmly, "If you give me some time to investigate, I might be able to provide you with an answer."

"Hmph!" Aberforth snorted, his expression full of frustration. "You'd better get them all out of here soon! I don't want anything to do with this mess! And it's not the first time you've dragged me into trouble because of this fool!"

With that, he flung aside the filthy curtain at the entrance and stormed off.

Dumbledore paused for a moment at the doorway before stepping inside.

Most of the Hog's Head patrons had fled at the sight of the werewolf. The last two or three stragglers had been chased out by Aberforth, leaving only a handful of people in the now eerily quiet bar.

Hagrid had tied up the werewolf, wrapping its claws in towels to prevent it from scratching anyone.

Dumbledore gave his wand a small wave, sending the werewolf into a deep sleep. Then he said, "Tell me what happened, Hagrid."

"Professor, I don't know how this happened..."

Hagrid looked confused as he spoke. "Lupin and I were just having a drink at the Three Broomsticks, talking about what it's like to be a professor..."

"When we parted ways, everything was fine. Then, just a moment later... only about two minutes, I swear... I suddenly heard screaming..."

"Relax, Hagrid. This isn't your fault."

Dumbledore lifted his wand and gently parted the thick gray fur on the werewolf's body.

His eyes darkened as he noticed something.

Hidden within the fur, barely visible, was a broken metal syringe.
