Chapter 27: Ally of Justice
Moss turned off the TV.
"Huh? Why'd you stop watching?" Angewomon asked curiously.
Moss didn't answer directly but instead asked, "Did you like it?"
"Uh… no… I didn't…" Angewomon hesitated, too embarrassed to admit it.
She had accidentally gotten absorbed in it—how shameful.
And to think that even Moss, her own body, could resist it while she, an angel, had unknowingly indulged right in front of her. It was just too… too humiliating.
"Thank you, Moss," Angewomon said gratefully. If Moss hadn't turned off the TV, she might have unknowingly fallen further.
After a brief silence, Moss murmured, "I don't want you to become a bad girl."
This statement might have contradicted her previous actions, but it was her genuine feeling. She truly believed that one bad influence inside this body was enough.
"Moss…"
"Angewomon…"
The atmosphere felt just right—perhaps a heartfelt hug was in order, a way to feel each other's warmth and heartbeat. But alas, they were two minds sharing one body.
"By the way, Angewomon."
"Yes?"
"The reason we gained the possibility to evolve into LadyDevimon or Sanzomon… might be because of you."
With Moss's mindset, it seemed unlikely she would evolve into a female Digimon.
That left only one explanation—Angewomon.
"I see… It seems evolution is even deeper than I thought," Angewomon mused.
"Ah~ I'm going to sleep now. I'll leave things to you." Moss, feeling drowsy, yawned and drifted off.
As Moss's consciousness faded, control of the body shifted to Angewomon.
Angewomon picked up the remote, glanced at the TV screen, and thought to herself, "I need to control myself!"
With immense willpower, she set the remote down, then took several deep breaths. Following the rhythm of her breathing, she entered a deep meditative state.
Unlike the Fairy Tail world, this world's air lacked a dense presence of magic, so her meditation didn't enhance her magic as much.
However, in place of magic, she sensed another form of energy—Digital Soul.
Everyone in this world possessed Digital Soul, but unlocking it required talent. Those with high talent could fight even Ultimate-level Digimon with their fists, while those with poor talent couldn't even manifest their Digital Soul.
Still, even if most people couldn't release their Digital Soul, they could release emotions.
Pride, envy, wrath, sloth, greed, gluttony, lust…
Just as Dark Digivolution was the easiest evolution path, negative emotions were the easiest to produce.
Emotions were deeply linked to Digital Soul—in a way, emotions were one of the "raw materials" of Digital Soul itself.
Digimon that absorbed emotions, just like those that absorbed Digital Soul, could become stronger and even evolve.
But if they absorbed negative emotions… the consequences were obvious.
This was another reason why Digimon who wandered into the human world had to be reverted to DigiEggs. The "reset" process was a way to purge the harmful influence of human emotions before they could return to the Digital World, preventing them from becoming threats.
"The data inside this body is already chaotic enough—I can't let external emotional energy interfere," Angewomon thought, adjusting the body's internal balance while training her magic.
The next day.
Moss's consciousness awakened.
"Huh? Why does the room look smaller?"
She looked around and realized that the walls and ceiling, which had been two meters away, were now just one meter away. If not for the fact that the room's furnishings remained unchanged, she would have thought she had been locked inside a much smaller space.
But even if she had been unconscious, Angewomon had still been in control. There was no way she would allow them to be taken somewhere against their will.
Angewomon chuckled, "Surprised? The room didn't shrink—we got bigger."
"How'd you do that?" Moss asked.
"This is an application of Digital Soul. By temporarily increasing our data volume, we can enlarge our body. I originally wanted to test evolution, but I accidentally discovered this technique instead," Angewomon explained.
A Digimon's size was directly related to its data volume. Maybe it was due to advances in network technology in this world, but Digimon in Digimon Savers appeared noticeably larger than those in previous series.
Take SaberLeomon, for example.
In the first series, SaberLeomon was no bigger than an elephant.
But in Digimon Savers, SaberLeomon could probably swallow an elephant whole.
Even in Digimon Adventure 02: The Revenge of Diaboromon, Angewomon and Angemon both underwent a size increase. Normally, they were about the size of an average human adult, but in that movie, they were as large as Omnimon.
Following Angewomon's guidance, Moss quickly learned how to control this size alteration and returned to her original form. She muttered, "Size shifting, huh… Adjusting my body size based on my opponent's… this could have some interesting applications in battle."
Angewomon smiled. "As expected of you, immediately thinking about combat applications."
Moss was about to say something when—
Boom!
A loud explosion shook the entire DATS headquarters.
Moss rushed out the door and into the command center. "What's going on?"
Hiromi Shirakawa had finished her night shift and gone back to rest.
Now, Miku Kurozaki was the one operating the computers. She reported, "Sei… that Digimon hunter turned into Biomeric Thunderbirmon and escaped!"
The large screen displayed Biomeric Thunderbirmon flying away.
Moss frowned. "Wasn't he under Captain Satsuma's supervision?"
At that moment, a tall figure entered the command center—Captain Satsuma himself.
He explained, "We were trying to extract the Digimon from Sei's body, but he suddenly activated his Digivolution, transformed into Biomeric Thunderbirmon, and smashed through headquarters' walls to escape."
Kudamon nodded in agreement. "That's exactly what happened."
Moss turned to Kudamon. "Then why aren't you chasing him?"
Even though Biomeric Thunderbirmon was fast, Kudamon could evolve into Kentaurosmon, who should be even faster.
Kudamon answered, "It happened too suddenly. Besides, I exhausted too much energy yesterday—I don't have the strength to evolve right now."
—Yeah, right. Like I'd believe that. A Royal Knight running out of energy?
If not for her mask covering half her face, everyone would've seen Moss rolling her eyes.
She smirked. "Oh, I see. I almost thought you let him escape on purpose… to have him act as a spy."
Captain Satsuma and Kudamon stiffened.
—She saw right through us!
Captain Satsuma had once been a detective—undercover operations were second nature to him. Now, he was simply putting those skills to use again.
But this time, the undercover agent wasn't him—it was Sei.
Sei was a complete scumbag—selfish, despicable, and utterly untrustworthy. Theoretically, he was the last person who should be sent in as an undercover operative.
But they had their methods.
When Kudamon evolved into Kentaurosmon, he possessed a special ability—Wave of Purification.
This technique released a holy aura that guided its target toward righteousness.
In other words—it was brainwashing.
Sei's willpower was surprisingly strong. It took a full six hours of brainwashing to reform him from a despicable lowlife into a bright, justice-driven young man.
When Captain Satsuma suggested sending him undercover, Sei agreed without hesitation.
"For the sake of righteousness, I will not hesitate!" Sei had declared, eyes burning with conviction—like a true ally of justice.
Of course, to deceive the enemy, they first had to deceive their own people.
That was why Captain Satsuma and Kudamon had staged the whole jailbreak scene.
They just hadn't expected Moss to see through it immediately.
—Does this Angewomon study military strategy? She's way too sharp!
