Chapter 173 Unmatched
Alina clapped her hands sharply, her teacherly voice ringing across the room. "Everyone!!! Attention here!"
The babies froze mid-argument—Kelpie with his jellyfish, Rocky clutching his pebble pouch, Vlad Jr. holding his handkerchief dramatically, and Luna baring her little fangs about her "rabbit gift."
"If you all don't stop this right now," Alina said, narrowing her eyes, "I don't mind giving you all… math homework."
The words landed like thunder.
Instant silence.
Not even Boo dared to float upside-down. He just gasped softly, covering his little mouth. The classroom turned so quiet it was almost spooky, a pin-drop hush hanging in the air.
A slow, satisfied smile spread across Alina's face. The power of a teacher's threat—unmatched.
"Very good," she said warmly, her voice softening. "Since we are going to celebrate Lucien's birthday tomorrow, everyone may come wearing pretty, cute clothes instead of uniforms!"
"Yaaaaay!!!" the class erupted into cheers, their earlier sulks forgotten in a heartbeat.
Drake flapped his wings with joy, "Teacher, I'm going to wear my shiny cape!!"
"Luna will wear Luna's best dress!" Luna declared proudly, puffing her chest.
"Boo will wear banana costume!" Boo shouted and did a twirl, making everyone giggle.
"And no more fighting over gifts," Alina added firmly, her eyes sweeping across the room. "A gift isn't about being the biggest or the fanciest—it's about showing your love and kindness. Lucien will be happy no matter what you give, because it comes from you."
Lucien's ears turned red as all eyes fell on him, and he ducked his head shyly, though a small smile tugged at his lips.
Alina's heart melted at the sight. These babies could turn her classroom into chaos within seconds, but they could also fill it with warmth and laughter just as quickly.
***
Alina clapped her hands, her smile tugging wider as the excited chatter faded.
"Alright, break is over—it's language time!!" she announced brightly.
The babies groaned a little, but their eyes still sparkled with curiosity. Boo flopped dramatically onto his desk. "Teacher, Boo's brain is too small for language after break!" he cried, pretending to faint.
Alina chuckled and shook her head. "Nonsense. Today we're going to learn something very simple but very important… how to make full sentences."
"Sentences?? Like… punishment?" Vlad Jr. asked, raising a sharp brow.
"No, sweetheart," Alina said gently, trying not to laugh. "Not punishment. Sentences are when we put words together to make meaning. For example—'I like apples.' That is a sentence."
"Ohhhhhh," Drake muttered, scratching his head. "So if I say, 'I eat all the snacks,' that's a correct sentence, right? I know, I know!"
"Yes!" Alina said with a nod.
"Then Boo says—'Boo eats all snacks before Drake!!'" Boo shouted proudly, sticking out his tongue at Drake, who gasped in betrayal.
"That's not fair!!" Drake wailed. "Teacher, make him say sorry!!"
Alina pinched the bridge of her nose, though a smile played on her lips. "No fighting over sentences, please. They're not for teasing, they're for learning. Now everyone, take your notebooks. Write one simple sentence about yourself—like, 'I am Luna,' or 'I like water.'"
Luna immediately scribbled furiously, muttering something under her breath.
Kelpie raised his hand, his face serious. "Teacher… can my sentence be 'I am the ocean'?"
"Yes, that's a beautiful sentence, Kelpie," Alina said warmly.
"And mine will be 'I am Rock!'" Rocky announced proudly, even drawing a pebble beside it.
Alina chuckled. "Perfect."
Alina went around each little desk, carefully looking at their notebooks.
"Good job, everyone!" she said warmly, and a chorus of tiny cheers filled the classroom. Boo floated upside down with his notebook, proudly showing her, while Luna puffed out her cheeks in satisfaction as if she had written an entire novel.
Alina then stood at the front and tapped the board. "Now… listen carefully, because teacher is going to explain how to make your sentences even better!"
She drew a line and wrote:
'I am Boo.'
"See this? It's a full sentence because it has two parts. One is the subject—the person or thing. That's 'I.' And the second part is the action or what you're saying about the subject. That's 'am Boo.' Together they make sense."
Boo gasped dramatically, clutching his chest. "Teacher wrote Boo's name on board!!! Boo is famous now!!" He started spinning like a little ghost star.
The class giggled, and Alina hid her own smile behind her hand before continuing. "Now let's see some of yours."
She turned to Luna. "Luna, can you read yours?"
Luna jumped up and read proudly, "My name is Luna! Luna is best! Luna Daddy strong!"
Everyone clapped, and Luna looked smug. Alina chuckled and said, "Very good, Luna. You made three sentences. Remember, each one should have subject and action. You said, 'My name is Luna'—that's perfect."
She then walked to Vlad Jr. "Vlad Jr., read yours?"
Vlad stood tall and recited in his princely voice, "I am Vlad Jr. I like poems. My best friend is Drake, though sometimes he is annoying."
Drake gasped, his chubby cheeks puffing like a squirrel. "Teacher! He bullied me inside his sentence!!"
The class erupted into laughter, and even Alina pressed her lips to stop from laughing. "No bullying in sentences," she said.
She turned to Sable, who shyly read his crooked words: "Boo is my best friend."
"Awww, Sable," Alina said warmly, "that's so sweet. See, everyone? A simple and clear sentence." Boo immediately puffed his chest like a proud balloon and declared, "Yes! Boo best friend of everyone!"
"Not true!" Luna growled, and Alina quickly clapped her hands before another argument started.
"Now let's improve together," she said, writing on the board again:
'I eat snacks.' → 'I eat yummy snacks.'
"See? By adding one more word, it becomes longer and more fun! Everyone try adding one describing word to your sentence."
The babies bent over their notebooks again, some scribbling, some biting their pencils, and some whispering to each other for ideas.
Alina clapped her hands, her voice carrying lightly through the room. "Alright, everyone! Teacher asked you to add one describing word to your sentence, or you can even make a new one for your friends too. Now… who wants to share first?"
