Chapter 174 Book-thirsty
Drake immediately hopped on his desk. "Me!! Me!! Teacher pick me first!"
"Alright, Drake," Alina chuckled, "let's hear it."
Drake puffed his cheeks and read with great drama, "My best friend is super annoying Vlad Jr."
"WHAT?!" Vlad Jr. stood up, scandalised, his princely composure cracking. "How dare you defile my poem with such words?!"
The whole class burst out laughing, and Alina quickly tapped Drake's notebook. "Drake, sweetheart, that's not very kind. How about you write something nice instead? Like… 'My best friend is super brave Vlad Jr.'?"
Drake slumped, muttering, "But he is annoying…" under his breath, making everyone laugh harder.
"Next!" Alina called, trying not to laugh herself. "Boo, your turn."
Boo proudly floated up, notebook upside down. "Boo sentence is: Teacher is super pretty best friend!"
Alina blinked and felt her cheeks warm. "Oh, Boo…" she sighed, shaking her head as the class giggled. "That's very sweet, but remember, Boo, you were supposed to write about you or your friends."
"Boo and techarrrrr are same!!" Boo declared dramatically, spinning until glitter dust fell out of his notebook.
Alina facepalmed. "Next!"
Sable shyly raised his hand. "Mine is… Boo is my best friend because he is super funny."
"Awww!" Alina clapped her hands warmly. Boo's chest puffed like a balloon, and he floated proudly in circles. "See? That's how you use describing words."
Luna immediately slammed her notebook on her desk. "Luna's sentence: Luna is super strong and Luna Daddy is strongest."
Drake rolled his eyes. "Always about her daddy."
"Shut up dragon!" Luna growled, and Alina had to step in quickly. "Wonderful, Luna. Very powerful words."
Then she turned to Vlad Jr., who sniffed, regaining his dignity. He read with flourish, "My best friend Drake is a super greedy dragon."
Drake's jaw dropped. "TEACHER!!" he wailed.
"Children," Alina said, holding back laughter, "we are not using 'annoying' or 'greedy' for describing words! Use kind words!"
Finally, Lucien quietly read his neat sentence: "Felix is my best friend because he is super kind."
Felix's red eyes softened, and he smiled so brightly Alina felt her heart melt.
"Very good, Lucien. That's exactly how we use describing words."
"Alright, Kelpie, what about you?" she asked gently.
Kelpie nervously held up his damp notebook, the edges a little wrinkled from water droplets. "Mine is… Rocky is my best friend because he is super hard."
The class erupted. Boo rolled in the air howling with laughter, and Drake nearly fell off his chair.
"Super hard??" Vlad Jr. smirked. "How poetic."
Rocky flushed, scratching his stone-marked cheek, and mumbled, "It's… true…"
Alina bit her lip, fighting back a laugh. "Kelpie sweetheart, maybe next time say 'super strong.' That sounds kinder."
"Ahhh, okay…" Kelpie nodded sheepishly, hiding his face behind his dripping hair.
Then Alina crouched beside Rocky's desk. "And what about you, Rocky?"
Rocky opened his little notebook and revealed a crooked but determined sentence: "My best friend is Kelpie because he is super splashy."
Kelpie's jaw dropped. "Splashy?? That's not a compliment!!"
"Yes it is," Rocky muttered with a tiny smile. "You splash everywhere, so you're splashy."
The class roared with laughter again, Boo spinning so fast he almost hit the ceiling.
Finally, she turned to Felix. "And what about you, Felix?"
Felix cleared his throat, trying to look very serious like an adult. "My best friend is Lucien because he is super smart and also shares crayons with me when I forget."
Lucien's ears turned pink, and he ducked his head shyly.
"Aww, that's such a thoughtful answer," Alina said warmly. "Very good, Felix."
After the chaos of language time, the bell finally rang, and lunch arrived in an instant rush. Chairs scraped, little feet pattered across the floor, and in seconds the room was empty—except for the faint echo of giggles.
Alina stayed by her desk, knowing one mischievous shadow was still lurking. Sure enough, Boo appeared behind her, stretching out his voice in that spooky tone he loved.
"Teacherrr…" he drawled, making her chuckle.
"Boo, you still haven't told me the last gossip," she reminded him with mock seriousness. He rubbed the back of his head, looking honestly puzzled.
"Which gossip?" he blinked at her.
"Well… about Teacher Gabriel," she teased, raising her brows.
Boo's lips drooped into a pout. "Boo forget," he admitted sadly.
Alina smiled softly and patted his head. "That's alright. Then tell me today's gossip instead."
Boo's eyes lit up, a mysterious glint replacing his sulk as he leaned closer. His little voice dropped dramatically, ready to deliver the latest scoop.
"Today's gossip is… about the principal," he whispered, and Alina braced herself, already expecting something ridiculous.
Alina blinked. "The principal? Dante?" She wasn't surprised at all—almost every bit of Boo's gossip was always about the principal. The only exception had been last Saturday, when he mentioned Gabriel, but unfortunately she never managed to find out what that was about.
"Yes!!" Boo nodded furiously, twirling in the air. "Last night Boo sneaked into the hallway—" He paused, lowering his voice with a guilty grin. "Well… actually, it was in a dream, but that counts too, right?"
"Boo…" Alina sighed, pressing a hand to her forehead as if she were trying to keep a straight face.
"Shhh, teacher, listen first!" Boo pressed his finger against his lips. "So Boo saw principal in library. You know what he was doing?"
"What?" Alina asked, curious despite herself.
Boo puffed his chest. "He was staring at… books!!"
Alina chuckled. "Boo, of course he stares at books. It's a library."
"No, no, no!!" Boo said, spinning upside down. "He wasn't reading! He was staring at the books like this—" Boo tilted his head dramatically, making a terrifyingly serious face. "As if the books offended him! He looked at them for sooo long… and then guess what?"
"What?" Alina asked again, biting back a laugh.
"He touched one book… sniffed it… then put it back!!" Boo said in a ghostly wail. "Like some scary book-sniffer!! Maybe he eats books at night! That's why his teeth are so sharp!"
Alina laughed so hard she had to cover her mouth. "Boo, he does NOT eat books!"
But Boo was already twirling away, arms spread dramatically. "Teacher, don't trust him! Boo saw everything with Boo's ghost eyes! Principal is not bloodthirsty… he is book-thirsty!!!"
Alina buried her face in her hands, shaking with laughter. "Boo, one day your gossip will get you in trouble…"
"And one day my gossip will save the world!" Boo declared.
