Chapter 489: I'm a... Dryad...
"How dare you!? Do you actually think you can live after killing me!??" Ashtar hollered in pain. "How fucking NAIVE—..."
|Death Piercer| - |X50 Condensed|
Silencing the Demon Prince in an instant, an enormous spear of death three times his size drilled into his forehead. Without the ability to resist, his head ruptured like a watermelon, and he died in the same moment.
His demon god-like body was left to fall from the skies, ultimately crashing into an empty wheat field, startling a number of nearby farmers. They cautiously approached the giant corpse, wondering what sort of heaven-shattering battle between gods had just unfolded.
*Ding!*
[You slew a 6th Layer Foundation Establishment Realm Demon Prince, draining him of all Lifespan!]
[Lifespan +21,082]
"The Lifespan of a Demon King Heir…" It was nothing to scoff at—well worth the trouble that went into ending his life.
But there was something else of equal if not greater value:
[Detected a Unique Bloodline nearby - Would you like to assimilate it?]
It went without saying that Necro answered yes. The event that followed was something to behold, for what was once Ashtar's transferred over to a new owner.
[You have successfully assimilated the (Superior Quality)(Rank 5) 'Hellborn' Bloodline into your Origin Progenitor Bloodline!]
[Your Attributes have exponentially increased!]
Stepping out of a cloud of demonic energies, Necro's angular facial features came into view. His eyes were scarily narrow, his hair a blackish-red, and his head now the holder of two spiraling black horns. There was also a tail swinging behind him, adding a lot to his overall devilish charm.
"If only I could find a few more of those Demon Princes." Necro had dangerous thoughts, already imagining the Aura that would be produced from such an excellent Bloodline.
Shaking his head in mock disappointment, he went on to snatch Ashtar's Spatial Ring before beckoning it to shrink. After which, he left the airspace above where the Demon Prince fell.
Flapping his pearly white wings, Necro swiftly returned to the broken barrier that surrounded River Mountain City. Upon arrival, he was greeted with the cheers of thousands, as well as the intense stares of a select few.
"You big dummy! Why'd you go and do something dangerous like that!?" Su Yu was the first to berate Necro. However, seeing how worried she was, he could only start rubbing her head in order to calm her down.
Su Yu was startled by this action at first but quickly grew to enjoy it.
"Young friend Necro," said the Mayor of River Mountain City, attracting his attention. "You have done a great service to this city and its people. You even saved my life. For these reasons, I'll forever be grateful to you."
"Don't worry yourself over it," Necro said politely. "Your city and the citizens within have treated me very well during my stay. Helping out in times of crisis was the least I could do. Also, little Su Yu is quite fond of this place."
Su Yu blushed, lightly punching Necro in the arm.
"I'm not little, big shtupid…" she mumbled.
Shao Yao giggled at this sight. "It would seem that troublesome girl has found herself someone very special. I'd be lying if I claimed I wasn't jealous."
Su Yu hid her face away from sight, not willing to deny or confirm that statement.
The mood right now was very nice. Even Shao Yao's daughter, a bright-eyed girl, made her cute appearance behind the voluptuous thighs of her mother.
However, all good things must eventually come to an end…
"...I'll be leaving soon," Necro announced, changing the expressions of many.
"Like the city??" asked Shao Yao.
Necro shook his head. "The whole area. All of the Great Forest of Jagga."
"So sudden? But why??" The City Lord was the one to ask this time. His city had just survived complete annihilation, but now he was told the expert that saved them would be leaving? Who wouldn't be disappointed??
"In truth, this place is not large enough," replied Necro. "My subordinates are deep in the North, mingling with the Shamans. However, their strength is intertwined with my own, and unless I become vastly more powerful, they'll never be able to fully conquer the area."
"...Your subordinates…?" asked the Captain of the City Guard. "Young friend Necro, what exactly are you? Are you actually a child—or something else entirely??"
Su Yu was especially keen to know the answer to this. She had suspected something for a long while now but could never confirm anything past what she assumed to be jokes.
Realizing that everyone was looking at him for answers, Necro sighed. "I'm very young. Younger than I appear. But I'm not… human."
Not human!?
What did that mean??
Was he trying to say that he was a monster?!
"Necro…" Su Yu wore a look of distress while staring at him.
"But you're not a Monster…?" the City Lord asked just in case.
"No, I'm not a monster," answered Necro, transforming his arms into a wiggling array of branches. "But I'm definitely not human either."
"!!!" "!!!"
"You've likely seen these before," Necro continued. "You probably thought they were just a type of power. But they're not. They're part of me."
"So then…" Shao Yao paused dramatically. "What exactly are you…?"
Neither she nor any of the others present had ever heard of anyone or anything below the Immortal Realms able to transform into a human form. In other words, Necro was either an Old Monster in disguise or… something new.
Necro shook his head dejectedly. "I'm not quite sure what I am," he began. "I just know that one day, I suddenly gained consciousness. From there, I realized that I could evolve."
"A seed, not much different than any other, is what I started out as," he added, suspense in his words. "Now, though, I am what you'd call a Dryad."
"Dryad!?"
The City Lord and Shao Yao, who were the strongest besides Necro, showed visible surprise. The others may not know, but as older Foundation Establishment Realm Cultivators, they had heard the legends of the Dryads. The Guardians of the Tree of Life. The Protectors of the World Tree. The ones ensuring the continued circulation of the Cosmos.
The Dryads!
