Infinite Evolution: My Idle Evolution System

Chapter 490: A Farewell, Becoming More Human

A Dryad was a myth. It was a fairytale you told your children to get them to sleep at night.

"...You're actually a Dryad…?" The City Lord was in disbelief. But who wouldn't be? If not for the fact that he had seen what the young lad was capable of, there was no way he'd believe such nonsense.

"Yes, I am a Dryad."

As soon as those present heard the answer come directly from Necro's mouth, they finally exhaled. Various emotions filtered through their expressions as they attempted to wrap their heads around this revelation.

"And I will continue to evolve," Necro continued, sending shock through the crowd. "What I am now is not the end of the journey for me."

"Then that's why…" Su Yu was surprisingly the first to understand the truth.

"Yes," said Necro. "That is why I have to leave the Great Forest of Jagga. One day, I'll also have to leave the Blue Ring Region as well."

Su Yu's heart shook.

The only reason she wasn't too bothered about him leaving the Great Forest of Jagga was because she knew he'd still be within the bounds of the Blue Ring Region. However, now things had changed. Necro was unveiled to be a Dryad, and as such, would not be limited to a small region in the Skyriser Kingdom.

Su Yu's eyes began to water.

Necro felt the urge to comfort her in some way, but there was no point. It was better to get complicated things out of the way sooner than later. Having only known him for a short period of time, it would be far less stressful for her to understand the inevitable right now.

"Actually, I might be leaving the Blue Ring Region sooner than expected," Necro announced with a grave tone. "That battle you witnessed earlier was between me and a… Demon Prince."

"!!!" "!!!" "!!!"

A Demon Prince!?

But didn't that mean…

"The father of this Demon Prince, a Demon King, is definitely in the Golden Core Realm," Necro confirmed their suspicions.

"A Demon King…" The City Lord dreaded the mere notion of an existence like that.

A monstrous demon capable of bringing whole nations to ruin—the Blue Ring Region would not survive its wrath.

'So that's why…' The City Lord, Guard Captain, and Shao Yao's thoughts synced up. They now understood why Necro said he wouldn't be in the Blue Ring Region for long.

"I'm sure you've figured out the reasoning behind my words by now," Necro sighed. "But I'd also be more careful if I were you, for there must've been a reason why a Demon Prince would want to destroy your city."

"I'll… keep that in mind, young friend Necro," the City Lord replied solemnly. "Thank you for the warning."

Necro nodded before turning his attention to the teary-eyed little beauty. His eyes softened.

"You're a good girl," he said, petting her head. "You've helped me plenty, more than you'll ever know. Because of you, I've become more human, and feel like I'm close to unlocking something within me that wants to remain hidden. So thank you—for everything."

Su Yu's heart sank into the depths of her chest, for she knew what came next.

"But…" Necro paused. "...this is where we part ways…"

Su Yu froze like a deer in headlights. The tears involuntarily fell.

"I… I-I hate you!" she screamed before running off and flying Lolipop into the distance.

Necro exhaled sharply.

Shifting toward Shao Yao, he said, "Make sure to take care of her."

"...I will, don't worry," she replied, holding onto her daughter. "But what about you? Will you be okay—"

"I'll be fine," Necro interrupted, his heart heavy. "For some reason, I feel as if loss is a very familiar experience. And it's not like this is permanent separation; no one knows when two paths might coincide in the future."

Shao Yao and the others felt that this made sense.

"Young friend Necro, at least allow us to send you off with a farewell party," the City Lord changed the subject. "You can also consider it to be a token of appreciation for all you've done for River Mountain City—"

"No," Necro denied. "The Demon King has likely already locked onto my position; in fact, I'm sure he has. If I stay here any longer, the threat your city faces multiplies. I have to leave—and it has to be now."

Silence…

"Very well…" The City Lord didn't hide his disappointment sufficiently enough. However, he, along with Shao Yao and the City Guard Captain, understood that Necro was saying all this for their sakes.

"Then this is goodbye…" they said, trying to smile in spite of the sadness of the situation.

"This is goodbye," Necro repeated, before… vanishing.

He came—and he went. His existence to those in River Mountain City was both impactful and fleeting, but never would they forget him.

— Deep within the Land of Demons, sitting atop a bone-made throne in a castle leaning off the side of a cliff leading to a lava river —

"My 4th son has died…" The owner of this grim voice was seething, producing demonic aura palpitations that terrified the demons kneeling below him. Demon King Mykon waved out his hand and thundered outward, "Hunt down the worm that killed my son! Bring me his head on a platter!!"

"Yes, my liege!" Demon Lords and Demon Ministers alike cupped their fists in reverence, already making preparations to carry out the Demon King's orders.

Elsewhere, standing in a blizzard blanketing the world in a layer of snow, were two figures. One was Lang Qingyue, while the other was an old hunchback woman. These two had a certain amount of tension fluctuating between them as they faced each other.

"You are not welcome in the North. Go back to where you came from," said the old woman. Tapping her cane against the ground, layers of snow melted. Her cultivation was close to exceeding the Qi Condensation Realm, qualifying her as a minor powerhouse.

"Yes, you and the other Shamans have been telling us that since we arrived." Lang Qingyue spoke in an icy tone, her thin blue sword somehow having unsheathed itself. "What my parents wanted me to seek your kind out for was never meant to happen. You're all unwelcoming and sinister, even going so far as to poison my Senior Sister."

If not for Necro learning how to transfer |Life Essence| and the other Essences through Shadow Tree Soldiers, Bai Ning likely would've died.

The Shamans were extremely proficient in the Art of Poisoncraft. Once they set out to kill someone, that person was unlikely to be alive the next dawn…
