Loving Her Forgotten Mafia

Chapter 21: Chapter-21

ADESSA

What a mess!

Who'd have thought I'd get sucked deep into the same mafia world because of which I let go of the man I loved? When I took up the job Rosario Salvatore offered me, I was in dire need of it.

It didn't cross my mind to check who he was. He looked like a wealthy businessman and I was ousted from the hospital I was working for, in a false case.

Who'd have thought I was going back to the same world? And now, even if I wanted to, I couldn't quit. An innocent woman needed my help and I wasn't going to leave her alone.

I finished touching up with a swipe of the red lipstick across my lips before putting it back in the clutch. Letting out a long breath, I went to the washroom door and pushed it open.

Before I could open it completely, a hand shot out from outside and held the door before a face came into my view.

My heart almost leapt out of my throat as Brian pushed me inside before getting inside and closing the door.

"What the…" air knocked out of my lungs as my back hit a wall and he pressed his body against mine.

"Why are you always so aggressive?" I scolded him in s whisper.

"Because you make me lose control," he spoke lowly, his hand sneaking around my waist and the other pressed against the wall beside my head.

"Someone will see us." I hated how his proximity affected me as my voice came out hoarse and my chest heaved.

A knowing smirk spread across his face as his gaze dropped to my lips and they parted out of their own accord.

"It's Dominic's nightclub. No one will come inside without my permission," he spoke with an emotionless face while his eyes were trained on my parted lips.

My lips tingled with anticipation as he leaned in slowly, before capturing my lips in a slow and sensual kiss. Butterflies swarmed my stomach making it almost painful as my body craved for more of his touch.

I wrapped my hands around his neck, locking them behind as I deepened the kiss until I remembered the pregnancy sticks, and my eyes snapped open.

I barely dodged the bullet this time after losing control once. Pregnancy was not an option right now. I had to control my lust around him.

I pulled away abruptly, making him look at me with a deep frown.

"What? Don't start your drama again. We are already past this. We both know you want me as much as I want you."

"Brian." I put a hand on his chest to create a little distance. "We should stay away from each other."

He pulled away with a scoff and ran his fingers through his hair before looking at me with an annoyed expression.

"Why are you being like this? I thought we got back together. What were we doing during the past month?"

"You won't understand. Just…" I averted my gaze and looked at the floor.

"Then make me understand. Why are you making it more complicated than it actually is?"

"Brian. I have some very important information and your boss needs to know. Can we get back to work?"

I had to steer the conversation away from us. I didn't have the bandwidth to explain anything to him right now and we had other important matters at hand.

He watched me quietly, not giving away anything as his face was a mask of coldness and indifference.

"Fine. You don't want me, right? Looks like I am bothering you. I am sorry. It won't happen again."

He stood straight, his tall frame towered over me in an all business demeanour.

"Tell me what you've got," he asked coldly and it hurt.

"Brian."

"Call me Mr Morrison."

I was about to frown but stopped myself at the last moment. Something broke inside of me at his aloofness.

I deserve it.

"Jane is pregnant."

His eyes turned alert as he looked at me with wide eyes.

"It's Mr D'Amico's. She wants to come back."

"What the fuck!" He looked away, running his hands down his face as he let the news sink in.

I waited until he turned to me and asked,

"Since when do you know?"

"Yesterday afternoon."

"Are you sure Dominic is the father?"

I didn't know when they did it. But I had been watching her since the day she came with Rosario. She always looked gloomy. It was worse after her brother died and Rosario had been too busy. He was rarely home. And I trusted her words. She was a nice woman.

"Yes. I am sure." I nodded.

"Okay. I can tell him myself. You don't need to come where he is at the moment."

"Why?" I got curious all of a sudden.

"The place is not for the faint hearts. You can leave."

"No. I'll come with you. I want to tell him myself."

He looked like he wanted to argue but decided against it.

"Okay. Don't say I didn't warn you. Follow me."

With that, he went out of the washroom with long strides, and I had to run to keep up with him.

"Will you slow down?" Annoyed, I raised my voice and he turned to look at me.

"Talk with respect, miss. I am not your boyfriend."

My mouth parted as I stared at him walking away, slower this time.

I pressed my lips in annoyance before following him.

"Did you people get any clue about Mrs Collins?"

"No."

.....

I found myself walking along the silent hallways of the club's underground, which was a stark contrast to the luxury, neon disco lights and noise of the DJ above. The surroundings were shady, dim and oppressive.

We passed through the narrow hallway guarded by tall and bulky men laced with assault rifles, looking similar to Brian and his boss' body frame. If not for Brian, I'd have fled the second I set my foot inside, without turning back.

Goosebumps rose on my skin as I kept following him. The giant guards bowed their heads to Brian before raking their gazes over me, making my skin crawl.

As if sensing my discomfort, Brian stopped without warning and my face hit his back. Before I could fall back, he grabbed my arm, pulling me close and our eyes met.

He averted his expressionless eyes before sliding his hand down and grabbing my wrist. He turned and walked away, taking me with him while our hands stayed clasped with each other. I had to restrain the urge to tighten my fingers around his hand as my heart fluttered.

Surprisingly, the guards we met along our way further didn't even take a fleeting look at me after that and I exhaled in relief.

After what felt like hours of walking which was actually just a few minutes, we finally reached a giant double-door and he pushed it open, ignoring the two men guarding it. As soon as the door opened, a huge uproar was heard that almost drowned out a loud growl.

The growl made my heart stop for a moment as we entered and I absentmindedly squeezed Brian's hand, trying to take in some form of comfort.

My eyes landed on the huge circular arena first thing inside, which was enclosed with an eight to ten-feet tall wired fence and inside was a big black bull…with Dominic D'Amico.

The arena was surrounded by an audience that cheered on the fight with loud uproars.

A loud gasp left my lips, my feet got rooted to the spot as I watched the scene unfolding before me. I felt Brian stopping behind me.

"He does this every night," he said in his deep baritone voice.

I watched as Dominic took his position, fully alert to his surroundings, and his eyes trained on the bull, which exhaled loudly before charging. A scream tore from my throat as I watched them collide. The fight was already halfway from the looks of it, as Dominic's body gleamed with a mix of sweat and blood.

Dominic grabbed the horns with his bare hands before dragging the bull in a circle. It swung wildly, humming loudly that sounded almost like a lion's roar.

"Why?" I asked in a whisper, unsure if he heard me.

"To torture himself. To feel Jane's pain." Came his response and my heart broke for them.

A love like theirs was rare in this world and it made me even more determined to help them in every way possible.

I averted my gaze from the brutality as Dominic took a few blows from the bull. I looked up only when a chant was heard in a loud chorus from all around.

BEAST! BEAST! BEAST! BEAST!

"Beast?" I asked, while watching Dominic holding down the bull to the ground by its horns as he sat on its neck, breathing heavily.

"That's his nickname in the underworld. He has been unbeaten by every fighter in the arena to date. Even this crazy bull couldn't beat him ever."

We fell silent as I waited for Dominic to meet us. My confidence in him in rescuing Jane just rose tenfold.

Finally, the bull was injected with something which made him go still and Dominic let it go. Ignoring the chants of his name, he turned to leave and his eyes fell on us. Something similar to hope flickered across his cold face as he took long strides, taking a towel passed to him on the way.

"Any news?" he asked me as soon as he was in front of us.

"Jane is pregnant," I whispered without delay, making sure no one else heard us.

His lips parted, crumbling his cold exterior and the towel fell.

"With your child," I spoke immediately, not wanting him to misunderstand.

"I know," he replied instantly and with conviction.

He trusted her.

"She wants you to take her out of there."

He let out a long exhale before his lips curled into a smile.

"Finally," he whispered, more to himself than us. "Time for the long-awaited war."

He exchanged looks with Brian, who nodded his head solemnly.
