Chapter 61: Chapter 61: George is Too Good

Chapter 61: George is Too Good

"Someone's tampered with that Bludger. It won't leave Harry alone. Throughout the match, it hasn't gone after anyone else.

It must be that Malfoy from Slytherin who did something to it. He's trying to catch the Snitch using such a despicable method!"

To protect Harry, the entire Gryffindor team surrounded him, landing on the ground and repeatedly batting the Bludger away. The Weasley twins angrily speculated.

Chaser Alicia Spinnet turned to Captain Wood:

"Oliver, you can't let Harry face that thing alone. Should we pause the match and request an investigation?"

Wood hesitated.

Meanwhile, Harry shouted frantically:

"If we stop now, we'll be disqualified!

We can't lose to Slytherin because of a rogue Bludger. They're already ahead by a hundred points. The only way we can win is if I catch the Snitch.

Come on, Oliver, take them away. I can't catch the Snitch with all of you around me!"

"No need. If both teams request an investigation, you won't be disqualified."

At that moment, a familiar voice came from above. It was George.

After noticing the situation with Gryffindor, the Slytherin team had been enjoying the spectacle, as it didn't harm them. George had convinced Flint to agree to a joint investigation.

His reasoning was simple: with their current lead, they were almost certain to win. But if they won because of the rogue Bludger targeting Harry, it would look like they'd cheated, tainting their victory.

"George, you're a good man!"

Wood looked at George with gratitude. George was clearly different from the typical Slytherin.

Madam Hooch, noticing the commotion, hurried over.

Since both teams requested an investigation, the match was paused. Snape and McGonagall, as heads of house, examined the Bludger. The results were clear: someone had cast a powerful spell on it.

However, such a spell was beyond the capabilities of any student at Hogwarts, ruling out the Slytherin team.

This situation was rare in Hogwarts history. To resume the match, the professors announced that the Bludger had malfunctioned and replaced it with a new one.

Dumbledore was called in to monitor the pitch, ensuring no further incidents.

With Dumbledore overseeing the match, Dobby, hidden in the shadows, dared not interfere. The game resumed with renewed intensity.

By four in the afternoon, after a grueling three-hour match, Harry finally outmaneuvered Malfoy and caught the Snitch, earning Gryffindor 150 points and ending the match.

However, when he saw the scoreboard, he was stunned.

The score was Slytherin 400, Gryffindor 200.

Even with his 150 points, Gryffindor was still 350 points behind.

"Congratulations to Harry Potter for catching the Snitch and earning Gryffindor 150 points. Unfortunately, the winners of today's match are Slytherin, as their George scored thirty goals alone."

Commentator Lee Jordan announced the result with regret. As a Gryffindor, he had hoped for a Gryffindor victory, but Slytherin's George had been unstoppable.

After the match, George was surrounded by Slytherin students as they returned to Hogwarts Castle.

This victory was entirely due to George. Without him, Slytherin wouldn't have won, even with Harry catching the Snitch.

Once the celebrations died down, George quietly slipped away with his spellbooks to the edge of the Black Lake.

Winning the Quidditch match was just a means to boost his reputation and make his life at school easier, as well as pave the way for his future.

But these were secondary goals, not the path to true strength.

Take Lockhart, for example. He went to great lengths to build his fame, but when faced with real danger, he was helpless.

True strength lay in figures like Dumbledore, Voldemort, and Grindelwald. That was George's aspiration.

However, his peaceful study session was soon interrupted.

A tall, middle-aged wizard with short yellow hair and round eyes approached him.

"Hello, George!"

"Hello, Mr... Who are you?"

George caught himself mid-sentence.

"I'm Ludo Bagman, the current head of the Department of Magical Games and Sports."

The man smiled.

George quickly searched his memory for the name and soon recalled.

Wasn't this the gambling addict who went bankrupt, owed Goblins a fortune, and swindled the Weasley twins?

"What can I do for you, Mr. Bagman?"

"Madam Hooch recommended you, and after watching your match, I'd like to invite you to join the English National Quidditch Team."

Bagman was confident that George, like any young wizard, would jump at the opportunity. Such an honor was impossible to refuse.

However, George's response left him speechless:

"Sorry, I'm not interested."

Joining the national team would undoubtedly boost his fame, but it would take up too much time. He'd likely have to train at the Ministry every weekend and travel for matches worldwide. The cost outweighed the benefits.

As mentioned earlier, fame was a side benefit. Magic was his true focus, so he declined without hesitation.

"But you played so well today. I could tell you held back to spare Gryffindor's pride. You could've scored even more. Why refuse my offer?

Are you worried your headmaster won't allow it?

Don't worry, I'll speak to Dumbledore myself. He'll agree and make arrangements for your training and matches..."

Bagman grew increasingly anxious.

George's performance had completely won him over. Based on his professional judgment, George's skills were among the best, even at the international level.

He was determined to recruit George today.

"Mr. Bagman, to be honest, Quidditch comes naturally to me, but magic is my passion. I don't want to waste my limited study time on Quidditch.

Especially since I'm only in my first year, the most crucial stage for learning magic."

Seeing Bagman's growing frustration, George added:

"Of course, I'm willing to contribute to our national team, just as I do for Slytherin.

So, I can agree to join the English National Quidditch Team, but I won't be able to train or compete until after my fourth year."
