Naruto: Wolf of the Hidden Leaf

Chapter 24: To Kill a(some) Cultists (IV)

Daigo POV:

Daigo was not a smart person and he was aware of it himself. Most of the time he didn't really need to be smart. He usually just punched things really hard till his problems went away. Unfortunately this was not one of those times.

The plan that Rei had given them was actually pretty simple in theory. Sayuri and Daigo himself will act as the vanguard while the shadow clone of Rei and Umbra will give them backup using genjutsu. In the meantime, Rei will try to deal with the leader of this group and his four bodyguards.

Rei has stated to them repeatedly that he can only spare so much chakra and the shadow clone can only use genjutsu before it is recalled back to him along with Umbra for when he actually fights against the jonin from the other side.

Neither Sayuri nor Daigo was actually confident in Rei's ability to fight toe to toe with a jonin. After all, they had met this morning and had no idea how strong Rei actually was. But they had begrudgingly accepted the plan considering that it was their only viable option left.

Reiga was fighting with three jonins at once and it would take him some time to actually win the battle. Enough time for their whole group to get wiped out.

Ninjas were not exactly suitable for fighting a large group solo. Which was especially true for Sayuri and Daigo who were close quarter combatants by default.

So, when the battle started the two of them weren't very hopeful that they'll make it out alive. But just as soon as Rei and Umbra started using their genjutsu, they were hopeful again.

They were using a sound based genjutsu once again to cover more ground. This time it was not as intended as the last time they had used it. The one they used this time was much more subtle and simple.

The genjutsu they had used disrupts communication pathways and alters brain chemistry. In simpler terms, it makes them feel as if they were drunk.

And boy oh boy, they were drunk out of their literal mind. Their hand eye co-ordination was gone, their central nervous system and motor senses were not in sync. As a result, their movements became sluggish and chaotic.

Taking advantage of such a situation, Sayuri & Daigo charged through the enemy lines. Sayuri was using her Byakugan along with the gentle fist style to incapacitate the opponents momentarily whereas Daigo took the direct approach of beating the shit out of them.

He was already on his first of the tri-coloured pills. He hasn't yet mastered the second pill's powers yet and trying to use it will only cause problems for Sayuri.

One by one, they started taking down their foes. And even if their senses were not responsive, their reflexes still worked to an extent. And these were not just ordinary bandits either, they were trained in the ninja art.

So, even though they were trying their hardest, it was proving to be quite problematic to deal with this many enemies all at once. By the time they had taken out seven of the assailants among sixteen, they were already pretty tired.

Their endurance was already spent by travelling the whole day and neither of them had that much chakra control to properly conserve their chakra. Not to mention that both Byakugan and Calorie Control had really high chakra expenditure.

Even after all that, they were able to hold on and attack because of how strong Rei's genjutsu was. But genjutsu itself wasn't mainly used for this many targets at once.

Although, all hell truly broke loose when two of the enemies from the attackers with good chakra control got out of the genjutsu. Just as soon as they had gotten out of the genjutsu, they freed two other members using Kai.

And it seemed that someone on their side was actually smart enough to understand who the bigger threat was. Consequently, all four of them rushed towards Rei and Umbra.

Rei's clone was trying to conserve as much chakra as possible, so he was using only taijutsu along with bits of support from Umbra.

This was not looking good for them. He could see across the clearing Rei fighting with a lightning sword. Daigo might not be very smart but he knew enough to know that if Rei lost that fight, then they were all done for.

That little genius was keeping the whole battlefield at bay.

Daigo started speaking as he punched one of the cultists,

"Sayuri, we need to finish things here quickly."

In response Sayuri replied in an annoyed tone,

"You think I don't know that? But there are just way too many of them. And none of us have any large area attacks to use."

Daigo bit his lips hearing that. It wasn't exactly true. He did have a large area attack but he was way too scared to use it again. The last time he used it, he had almost smashed his head wide open.

He breathed heavily as a panic attack started to bubble up inside of him. He has never seen combat like this before. He knew that a shinobi must see these on a daily basis. But knowing and experiencing were two totally different things.

Every attack that was thrown at him tonight was with the intent to kill and even he might've killed a few of them tonight. He didn't know. He didn't want to know.

He was scared.

Someone needed to tell him that it'll all be okay. Someone needed to tell him that he will live through the night and go home again. Someone needed to tell him...

"It's going to be fine Daigo." Sayuri said as she interrupted his thoughts. Her lavender eyes were now more focused than ever. Her hands were bruised through combat, and yet it was firm.

"We're going to survive tonight. We're going to survive and we're going to go home. And then we'll tell all our classmates about the great adventure we just had. After that, we are going to train like never before. We are going to become so strong that we never have to feel hopeless like tonight ever again. We are going to change after tonight. That will be our vow to ourselves."

As Sayuri's words passed through his mind, he found an inner strength he did not have before. A sense of hope you might say.

His teammate... no, his friend has given him a sense of courage that he didn't think he had before.

"Sayuri, I have a plan. You'll quickly run within the enemy lines and use your gentle fist to disable as many enemies as you can."

"And then?" Sayuri asked inquisitively.

"And then you'll get out of here."

It was clear from Sayuri's face that she had reservations regarding the plan. But seeing her friend's resolve she decided to follow through anyway.

Being quite nimble on her feet, she passed through the drunken enemy lines and disabled as many as she could.

Taking a deep breath, Daigo opened up his tri-coloured pills. Strengthening his resolve he took out the second pill and crunched it.

An immense amount of chakra gathered in his body as his fat burned at an enormous speed. He should probably warn Rei's clone, but decided against it. Rei had extraordinary sensory capabilities. He would know how to get out in time.

Calorie Control: Super Expansion Jutsu.

Daigo's already large body started expanding in an immense rate. So much so that within seconds his body covered almost the whole battlefield.

The reason why he hesitated to use this pill was not because it was weak. But rather, when he used this jutsu he became so big that it rivaled the adults of the Akimichi clan. But being such a big size meant his calories will be burnt at a much higher rate than normal.

So much so, that his father compared this to be quite close to the effects of the third pill. He will not die, but he sure as hell won't see the light of day for another week.

Nor would any of the cultists present there. They could only watch helplessly as a literal mountain sized man dropped onto them.

The night sky became darker and the ground shook by the sound of an explosion.
