Chapter 15: Chapter 15: Kaido, Beasts Pirates
The news of the Marines mobilizing shook the seas.
After all, it was rare to see an Admiral personally leading a force into the New World.
The Marines might have some bases in that chaotic territory, but they never acted rashly.
They feared upsetting the balance and provoking the Four Emperors, who had long divided the New World between themselves.
None of those Emperors would tolerate outsiders meddling in their lands.
That's why Admirals usually stayed in the first half of the Grand Line, hunting down promising pirates before they grew too strong.
This time, though, the Marines' advance into the New World gave off a different signal.
It felt like they were finally planning to challenge the New World itself.
What the local powers thought of this, no one knew.
But Morgans loved nothing more than chaos.
A world without shocking news wasn't worth living in.
So while reporting the facts, Morgans added his own spin and sent his news birds off to the New World.
He longed to see the pirate world in turmoil.
How could the age started by Pirate King Roger end up so boring?
"Lord Kaido, it looks like the Marines are heading for the Maya Kingdom,"
King said, hesitating slightly as he stood beside Kaido.
If the Marines were on the move, their plans were as good as ruined.
Capturing that kingdom would no longer be possible.
King felt a twinge of regret.
Taking that kingdom would've pushed their business empire to a new level.
"The Marines?"
Kaido froze for a moment.
He had thought it was Whitebeard or that Charlotte Linlin woman making a move.
But it was only the Marines?
Had they really dared to act after so long?
Did they think nothing of him anymore?
Had the name of the Beasts Pirates lost its power?
"Who did they send?"
Kaido's expression darkened.
"An Admiral and a Vice Admiral, it seems,"
King replied, his tone awkward beneath the cover of his helmet.
Kaido grabbed the paper and glanced at it.
It became clear why his men were uneasy.
So it was that slippery Kizaru.
Even Kaido found that man hard to deal with.
Too fast to catch.
"And the Vice Admiral? That new rising star? The so-called next Marine hero?"
Kaido sneered at Noah's picture.
The Marines really were underestimating him.
Sending a weak Vice Admiral to trouble him?
Insulting.
"You and Jack go,"
Kaido ordered with a cold grin.
The two of them were more than enough to handle Kizaru and Noah.
He trusted them to return with a victory.
"Should we call back the Flying Six?"
King asked, hesitating.
Those six were key members of the Beasts Pirates.
Losing them would be a real blow.
"No need. Let them take the Maya Kingdom.
You just stop Kizaru."
Kaido didn't even think about it.
He had already claimed that kingdom as his own.
If the Marines wouldn't protect it, he would seize it.
"Yes!"
King nodded and headed out.
Jack had just returned, face dark with frustration.
But at the sight of King, his mood brightened.
"King! Big Brother!"
Jack grinned wide.
"Mission time,"
King said simply and moved out to organize their ships.
Meanwhile, a mischievous head poked into the room.
Spotting King leaving, the figure slipped inside, mace in hand.
"Damn old man! Take this!"
A roar shook the room.
Moments later—
Boom!
A figure flew through walls before finally coming to a stop.
Noah's warship passed Mary Geoise and entered the New World.
It was only the second day, but Noah felt like they were moving too slowly.
He was eager to get this mission over with and start his leave.
If he returned only to find the Summit War about to start, that would be a nightmare.
No way did he want to get dragged into that mess.
The ship sailed all morning.
By noon, Noah and Kizaru lay lazily under the sun, looking like a pair of bums.
Umbrellas shielded their faces from the harsh glare.
Noah had already stripped off his shirt.
The heat was brutal enough to cook a man alive.
Kizaru wore a thin shirt, but not a bead of sweat showed on his face.
On deck, Hina practiced with a blade, her strikes slicing through the air.
"Raise your arms a bit.
Breathe with it, don't just rely on strength."
Noah, wearing a blindfold, seemed to sense everything around him.
He pointed out each flaw in Hina's form with uncanny precision.
Kizaru watched, surprised.
"Noah, I didn't know you knew swordsmanship too,"
he said, curious.
He'd assumed Noah just carried a sword for show.
"A little.
I know a little of everything,"
Noah said with a smile, sipping his cold drink.
The chill washed away the heat.
"I don't believe a word of that,"
Kizaru grumbled.
He'd seen Noah's training—just Rokushiki and Haki, nothing about swordplay.
Where had this come from?
"This guy's hiding even more than I do,"
Kizaru thought, frowning.
How had Noah trained?
Strong in hand-to-hand, swordsmanship, Devil Fruit abilities...
If not for that duel with Aokiji, Kizaru would still think he was just an ordinary Vice Admiral.
Suddenly, his own rank felt a lot less impressive.
Being an Admiral wasn't as easy as it seemed.
