Chapter 16: Chapter 16: Doflamingo Looking for Trouble?
Just then, two Marines came running over.
They were part of the crew Hina had transferred from the Grand Line—Fumbudi and Zango.
Both men were drenched in sweat.
Their faces were pale.
"Admiral Kizaru! Vice Admiral Noah!"
They saluted first.
Hina sighed and put down her sword.
It looked like things were about to get busy again.
"What's going on?"
Hina asked.
"Captain Hina!
There's a pirate ship approaching!
It looks like they're coming straight for us!"
Zango spoke in a rush, fear plain on his face.
He'd recognized the pirate flag—one that was hard to forget.
"Which pirate crew?"
Hina glanced at Kizaru and Noah.
With these two top-tier fighters here,
who would be stupid enough to pick a fight?
Even if you wanted to die, no need to rush, right?
"It's the Donquixote Family!"
Zango blurted out, panic setting in.
They were not people you could afford to cross.
If it were just Hina here,
he'd be begging her to retreat already.
That Warlord was a monster.
"A Warlord? Doflamingo?"
Hina was surprised.
She'd thought some no-name pirate was causing trouble.
Who knew it'd be one of the Warlords making a move?
And they dared come this close?
They really didn't take them seriously at all.
"What a pain.
Didn't think we'd run into so much trouble just heading out to sea."
Kizaru sounded bored.
Being at Marine HQ was better—
at least you didn't have to deal with so many headaches.
And if anything did come up,
Kizaru could end it in a flash.
"Yeah,"
Noah agreed lazily.
They hadn't come here to pick big fights.
Now even a Warlord wanted to die?
"Want me to chase them off?
That'd solve the problem, right?"
Noah lifted his blindfold slightly, looking at Kizaru.
"Oh? Planning to make a move, Noah?"
Kizaru smirked, amused.
Noah was obviously hinting for him to act.
But no way was Kizaru falling for that.
Every cell in his body was in lazy mode.
"I'm too weak against a Warlord.
Wouldn't want to embarrass the Marines,"
Noah said innocently.
Clearly, he had no intention of lifting a finger.
With Kizaru around, why bother?
"Then let's just stay put.
He'll probably get bored and leave on his own."
Kizaru shut his eyes again.
"Good idea."
Noah lowered his blindfold once more.
"…."
Hina and the two Marines were speechless.
They stared at the two slackers.
Was this really the Marine Corps?
Waiting for a pirate to leave on his own?
Why not just hope the pirate burned his flag and became a civilian while they were at it?
Impossible.
Hina fumed inside, but she had nowhere to vent.
She knew Noah well by now—
unless forced, he wouldn't act.
But Kizaru too?
At HQ, wasn't he always the one charging out at Sengoku's orders?
Why was he suddenly so useless in front of pirates?
"Fufufufufu…"
A voice rang out.
There, floating in midair, sat a man in a pink feather coat.
A cocky grin on his face.
He radiated menace.
Anyone could see he was no good.
"Doflamingo!"
Hina spun around.
Black iron bars formed in her hands, shooting toward him.
Anything caught in her trap wouldn't escape.
"Captain Hina, better stay calm.
An accident would be bad."
Thin threads gleamed in the air.
They touched Hina's neck.
One wrong move, and she'd have a mark to remember.
"Hina doesn't take orders from pirates."
She sneered, cigarette between her lips.
Her arms lit with the Haki Noah had taught her,
and she struck at the threads.
But a second later, she froze.
Her eyes wide in shock.
Her whole body felt bound by invisible threads,
completely under Doflamingo's control.
"Didn't expect you to be so talented, Captain Hina."
Doflamingo smirked.
But to him, this was typical Marine training—
solid basics first, real skills later.
She might be in her thirties,
but in the New World, that still counted as young.
"Doflamingo,"
Kizaru said at last.
Doflamingo's hand stilled.
He wouldn't dare cross Kizaru.
That man's brand of justice was impossible to read.
Who knew which side he was really on?
"Better not cause trouble.
If you upset this man beside me,
even I couldn't calm him down,"
Kizaru warned, scratching his chin lazily.
He didn't look like an Admiral at all.
But Doflamingo didn't dare underestimate him.
"The man beside you?"
Doflamingo looked at Noah.
He recognized the blindfold right away—
same style as Aokiji's.
Even with it on, Doflamingo knew who he was looking at.
Vice Admiral Noah.
"So this is Noah's subordinate?"
Doflamingo laughed and flicked his fingers,
snapping the threads off Hina.
On a Marine ship, he wasn't about to push his luck.
Even with his connections, that would be plain stupid.
"Doflamingo, why haven't you left yet?
Can't you see we're sunbathing?"
Noah sighed and pulled off his blindfold.
No sense at all.
"…."
Doflamingo's face darkened.
Whether in the New World or at Marine HQ,
no one had ever dared speak to him like that.
Not even the Emperors.
