One Piece: My code name is Green Bull

Chapter 118: The End of the Three-Year Confinement

He left with excitement but returned disappointed!

That summed up Jon's feelings about this trip to the New World. After two years, he had finally left Marine Headquarters, hoping for an exhilarating battle. However, the outcome was nothing like what he had expected.

After the Navy's main fleet returned to the G-1 Branch, they did not immediately set sail for the first half of the Grand Line. Instead, they stayed at G-1 to observe the changes in the New World.

Less than a month after the Edd War, the New World descended into complete chaos. Pirate factions that had long been suppressed by Golden Lion took advantage of the situation, launching full-scale battles to seize his former territories.

Although Golden Lion was still alive, his fleet had suffered devastating losses, and he himself was injured. Rather than showing himself immediately, he chose to stay hidden, watching as other pirates fought over his former domain.

Truthfully, he had little choice. Golden Lion was indeed powerful, but no matter how strong he was, he couldn't intimidate everyone in the New World alone. There were several pirates as strong as him, and many more who were slightly weaker but still formidable.

Knowing this was his weakest moment, he made the strategic decision to lay low and rebuild.

His silence only fueled the greed of others. The pirates grew even wilder, turning the New World into a lawless battlefield where chaos reigned.

Meanwhile, the Roger Pirates had become the greatest beneficiaries of the war. Their name spread far and wide, overshadowing both Golden Lion and even Whitebeard. They had now become the most feared and respected pirate crew in the New World.

Yet, much like Golden Lion, they too had disappeared after the battle. No one could track them down.

Despite the ongoing conflicts, the Navy chose not to intervene. Instead, they observed the shifting power balance from the sidelines, allowing the pirates to destroy each other.

Jon did not remain in the New World for long. After a period of waiting, he left with Tsuru, returning to Marine Headquarters.

It had been an eventful spectacle, but for Jon, who had not been able to participate in any real battles, it felt like a waste of time. Now that he was back at HQ, he had no choice but to resume his monotonous daily routine.

Time passed quickly.

Another year had gone by in the blink of an eye.

"Three years of confinement are finally over. I'm free!"

As he breathed in the long-lost air of freedom, Jon stretched his arms, feeling an exhilarating rush.

Three years.

How many three-year periods does a person have in their lifetime?

Being restricted to Marine Headquarters for such a long time had been unbearable. Now that the restriction was lifted, he was ready to embrace his long-awaited freedom.

Without hesitation, he went straight to find Tsuru.

"Vice Admiral, reporting in!"

Standing before Tsuru's desk, Jon saluted sharply, his voice filled with enthusiasm.

"With that energy, I can tell you've been holding back for quite a while," Tsuru chuckled as she observed his eager expression.

Jon scratched his head. "Well, I've been stuck here for so long… Vice Admiral, do you have any missions for me? I'll do my best!"

"There are no missions for you at the moment. But considering you've been confined for three years, I'm granting you two months of leave. You're free to go wherever you want."

"Two months off?"

Jon was caught off guard. He had expected to be assigned a mission, not given a vacation. Was the Navy really this relaxed?

Then again, thinking about it, it made sense. He had been confined for three years, and the Marine Strategic Planning Department had continued to operate smoothly without him. Clearly, his presence wasn't crucial to its function.

Still… this situation felt a little off.

Did he really matter so little?

"Are you saying you don't want time off?" Tsuru asked.

"No, it's not that. I just… don't know what to do with it," Jon admitted.

Tsuru offered a suggestion. "If you have no plans, why not visit your hometown in the South Blue? You haven't been back in years. I'm sure your parents would love to see you. And I hear you have a younger sister now. This would be a good opportunity to meet her."

"My hometown, huh…"

Jon thought about the Marine base in the South Blue, where he had spent seventeen years of his life. Seven years had passed since he last set foot there. It was nostalgic.

"Would you like a Navy warship to take you there, or will you find your own way?" Tsuru asked.

After a moment's thought, Jon replied, "I'll go on my own. There probably aren't any warships heading that way right now, so I won't trouble you, Vice Admiral."

"Alright then."

Tsuru nodded, then reached into her desk. "By the way, you previously asked me to help you locate islands with dense vegetation. I've had people look into it. They've identified a few possible locations. Here's the information. See if any of these interest you."

Jon's eyes lit up as he took the documents. Just as he was about to start reading, Tsuru cut him off.

"Take them with you and read them later."

"Yes, ma'am!"

Jon cheerfully exited the office, heading toward his quarters.

To be honest, he was truly glad to be assigned to the Marine Strategic Planning Department.

Sure, he was one of the few men in a department full of women, but there was something refreshing about working under Tsuru. The lack of unnecessary bureaucracy and military formality made it one of the most comfortable departments in the entire Marine organization.

At least, that was his personal opinion.

Once he was back in his quarters, Jon eagerly flipped through the documents Tsuru had given him.

He had asked her to search for islands covered in unusual plants in hopes of finding Boin Archipelago, the jungle-covered island where Usopp had once trained.

However, when he first watched that part of the story, he hadn't paid close attention to details, so he didn't actually remember the island's name. This meant he had no choice but to search for it the hard way.

Thankfully, the Navy's influence spanned the entire world.

If he had to do this alone, it could take decades.

According to the documents, there were four islands with thriving plant life, each meticulously documented with their locations.

Jon memorized their names and coordinates.

With Tsuru granting him two months of leave, he now had the perfect opportunity to visit them.

As someone with a Plant-Based Devil Fruit, he knew the immense value of powerful vegetation. Over the years, he had developed numerous devastating techniques, but his collection of plant species still wasn't strong enough.

Against true powerhouses, his plants were far too fragile.

That needed to change.

One of his biggest goals was to obtain Treasure Tree Adam, but the opportunity to acquire it hadn't yet presented itself.

For now, his best bet was to search for strong plants elsewhere—starting with these four islands.

The next day, Jon received four Log Poses from Tsuru and prepared to depart.
