Chapter 13: 12- Kara's Past

12- Kara's Past

A few years ago, when Kara had been promoted to vice admiral and was working alongside Aokiji's faction, she was quite happy—occasionally annoying everyone and, for a change, cleaning up corruption within the Marines.

She didn't go overboard; she simply gathered evidence, sent it to Sengoku, and was then sent to capture the culprits.

One day, she requested leave to visit her hometown and bother her siblings, but her request was denied since she had caused a disaster in a kingdom, destroying too much in the process. As punishment, Sengoku assigned her administrative work.

It was obvious this was also a way to protect her, preventing nobles from filing complaints against her.

So, Kara started looking for an excuse to escape after her request was rejected.

She tied bird food to her body and waited for a giant bird to kidnap her.

After several days, she seemed to have landed on an island where Marine entry was forbidden. Only one base and its soldiers were permitted to enter and leave the island.

It was strange, but since the island's king had connections with the World Government and had intervened, there was nothing they could do.

Obviously, Kara didn't know this—or simply didn't care. So, she entered the island by simply falling from the sky.

What she found there was something no one could have imagined.

She also discovered the reason why outside Marines were not allowed in.

On this island, they hated the Marines. No, that was an understatement. They utterly despised them.

If that had been all, it wouldn't have mattered much, as there were many islands that resented the Marines—whether because they were pirate territories or harbored grudges for not being saved when attacked.

But on this island, the nobles demanded that the Marine base bring in female Marines from outside, forcing them—using their families as hostages—to become slaves of all kinds.

And once they got bored of them, they threw them out onto the streets with nothing, leaving them as vagabonds.

The worst part was that instead of helping these women, the townspeople took out all their frustrations on them.

If they saw them, they would take the opportunity to beat them—whether because they had a bad day at work or because their wives had annoyed them.

Over time, hatred toward the Marines had become a tradition, passed down from generation to generation.

Some, out of sheer cruelty, even went out to hunt these former Marines, stoning them to death.

And the worst part for Kara was that, upon arriving, she witnessed a woman being killed in such a way.

That woman was none other than her former training partner, a friend she had made but had been separated from after ending up in different positions.

She was completely in shock.

Without hesitation, she began investigating what was happening, discovering that more than 300 female Marines had been kidnapped and enslaved.

Even their families, taken as hostages, had been killed so they couldn't complain to the Marine base and ask for help.

Then, filled with fury, Kara destroyed everything in her path.

It is believed that she awakened her Devil Fruit, which until then had only been able to destroy inanimate objects but not organic matter.

Her ability turned everything to dust.

Every inhabitant of the island, every noble, and every Marine who knew what was happening was killed.

The Marines, above all, were the main culprits, as they were the ones preventing their former comrades from escaping the island.

Thus, when Garp arrived looking for Kara, he found a plain covered in dust.

And Kara sitting there, her gaze empty, as she handed him a folder full of evidence of what had happened on the island.

It even contained all the shady dealings the nobles had with illegal activities—just in case the World Government elders tried to complain.

No Marine high command could believe what had happened before their eyes until they learned the truth.

Then, by order of the World Government, everything was kept silent.

Meanwhile, Kara was assigned administrative work due to complaints from many nobles who feared she would visit their islands, uncover something illegal, and kill them.

Obviously, many of these nobles were involved in illegal activities and didn't want Kara to find out.

But Kara didn't sit idly by. She knew a high-ranking officer was involved, so she continued investigating carefully until she found the main culprit.

She spent months waiting for him to lower his guard and gathering evidence. Once she had enough, she sent it to Sengoku and, without waiting for orders, went out to hunt him down.

By chance, he turned out to be one of Akainu's most fervent followers. Though, of course, he hid well… After all, the best place to hide was among the Marine's hawks.

When Kara caught him on an island, he quickly sent a message to Akainu, accusing her of being a Marine traitor and claiming she wanted to kill him to silence him.

Without a second thought, Akainu rushed to the location, arriving just as Kara was killing the vice admiral.

Furious, he launched himself at Kara without a word.

And Kara, enraged at Akainu for not controlling his men, didn't want to say anything either… she simply started hitting him.

The fight lasted three days and three nights, while the small, fortunately uninhabited island ended up completely destroyed.

Luckily, Sengoku sent Kizaru to stop the battle and explain the truth to Akainu.

But that fight also served to show everyone that Kara was stronger than they had thought. She was able to rival an admiral for such a long time, proving that she was Garp's granddaughter through and through.

Though, according to Kara, she probably would have lost by the fifth day… but if that happened, she would have taken Akainu down with her—obviously, at the cost of her own life.

Change of P.O.V

—Wow! She fought an admiral for three days and didn't get a single wound?! —Koala asked, astonished.

—No. Her entire body was burned —answered Dragon, who was telling them the story he had heard.

—But when she was shirtless, she didn't have a single scar… —Koala muttered, remembering how Kara had taken off her shirt, dirtied by Karasu, and was left only in a bikini. She blushed slightly at the memory before adding—: She didn't have a single mark…

—Ah, I can explain that —Sabo quickly intervened—. What that psycho of a sister of mine did was rip off her own skin to regenerate. She did it several times until her skin looked as you see it now.

Everyone was in complete shock.

—W-Wait… that sounds painful… —Koala said, trembling at the mere thought.

—That's insane… —Betty murmured, equally surprised.

—Well, with her ability, it was quite easy, though painful. Then she went to find a skilled doctor, and with Vegapunk's help, they created a special skin cream —Sabo explained—. After all, she's a woman… she cares a lot about her appearance.

No one paid attention to that last comment.

—From what I heard, thanks to Kara's ability, Marine medical technology advanced quite a bit. After all, she can perfectly separate people… —Sabo said with slight disgust—. Obviously, they used corpses in the name of research… It's not like she was randomly cutting up people… —he quickly added, defending his sister's name.

—Around that time, she also became quite obsessive about cleanliness. She even started wearing gloves to avoid touching anything dirty —Sabo explained with a smile—. In fact, there's a factory dedicated exclusively to making her gloves and clothes all year round.

—Opening a factory for that nonsense? What a waste of money… —Belo Betty commented.

—So, what happened to Akainu? —Karasu asked, more interested in his own arm. Akainu had suffered the same fate, so he wanted to know more.

—Akainu was less injured than Kara… but his arm was gone. Even if he used magma to rebuild it, the moment he lost concentration, it would crumble back into cubes… —Dragon explained, intrigued by Kara's ability.

—Even now, we don't know its limits… She can divide a person into miniature versions of themselves… —he added—. By the way, Akainu spent an entire year without recovering his arm.

—A whole year without an arm?! No way… —Karasu murmured, feeling down.

—Don't worry. Kara was quite lenient with us… She probably just wanted to scare you. She didn't give Akainu his arm back because he refused to apologize to her —Sabo said, laughing. Kara had roughly explained how her ability worked.

And with Akainu, she had hit him with a full-powered attack to keep his arm gone for a year. Whereas with Karasu… she had simply "touched" him, by comparison.

—Hmm? Looks like Sabo is right… —Dragon murmured, noticing how the dust around Karasu's arm was starting to gather.

Then, everyone watched as Karasu's arm returned to normal.

—A fascinating ability… and at the same time, a very dangerous one —Dragon commented, turning around as he returned to his office on the ship—. Fortunately, it fell into her hands… and not someone else's.

—Well, according to Kara, if she could use her ability to split an atom and create a nuclear bomb, she would be this world's Oppenheimer… though I don't know what that means —Sabo said casually as he placed an ice pack on his head.

Meanwhile, in Loguetown, the person with the fascinating and dangerous ability:

—Hey, Kara, this guy's ability is just like yours —Zoro said while watching Buggy the Clown, who was separated into pieces and tied up in a net, struggling to break free.

—That's true… I wonder what would happen if I split him with my magic… —Kara murmured, intrigued by the experiment.

—Damn Marines, let me go! —Buggy shouted, racking his brain for ways to escape.

—You two stop messing around and get on the boat already! —Smoker yelled impatiently, waiting for the two who were bothering Buggy.
