Pokemon Battle System: I Reincarnated As A Charmander

Chapter 129: Chapter 129: Heat Wave

The two intense blasts collided, generating powerful waves that radiated outward before dissipating as scattered flames into the air.

To be honest, even using basic Fire-type moves at his current strength felt like overmatching his opponent. Instead, Lian decided to treat it more casually, continuously defending against attacks to test his control and mastery.

"Charmeleon, use Flamethrower," Kalia commanded. In a battle of Fire-type moves, utilizing the strongest one was natural, although Charmeleon had other options, none compared to Flamethrower's potency.

Kalia eagerly looked at Julian, hoping he would finally reveal the mysterious move they'd been keeping secret.

"Charmeleon, use Flamethrower."

However, contrary to her expectations, Julian did not employ any alternative Fire-type move; instead, he opted for Flamethrower once again.

Feeling slightly disappointed, Kalia noticed Julian's confident demeanor, suggesting that Flamethrower might not be Charmeleon's most potent attack, hinting at something still hidden.

Lian refrained from immediately unleashing Flamethrower, treating this more as a game. He waited for his opponent to make their move, then used Flamethrower defensively to counteract incoming attacks.

Roar.

Julian's Charmeleon opened its mouth once more, gathering flames and unleashing another Flamethrower.

"Too rigid."

Although his Charmeleon had high proficiency with the move, its control over energy was disappointingly low, resulting in a straightforward execution without variation.

This wasn't surprising, as at this stage, most Charmeleons typically lack exposure to advanced Control Ratings.

Lian's Flamethrower appeared leisurely slow, but despite its relaxed pace, it precisely blocked the incoming attack from Julian's Charmeleon.

The two streams of intense flames collided again, spreading outward like a magnificent bloom of fire, before scattering like shooting stars falling from the sky.

Both Charmeleons continued to unleash Flamethrowers relentlessly. Lian thoroughly enjoyed the exchange, effortlessly blocking each attack without a single misstep.

This showcased Lian's skill; although he consistently responded after his opponent, he accurately countered every offensive move.

"Charmeleon, stop playing around!" Kalia smiled, noticing that if her Charmeleon chose to, it could have easily defeated the opponent instead of just defending.

Julian, overhearing Kalia's comment, felt she was being overly confident and said, "Kalia, aren't you too arrogant? Your Charmeleon is clearly at a disadvantage."

Julian didn't fully grasp the situation, which wasn't entirely his fault, as he couldn't comprehend the significant gap between their two Charmeleons.

"Then unleash a stronger move, let me see it," Kalia replied calmly. She knew her Charmeleon's true capabilities well; it had led her to the sixth floor of the Battle Tower and often achieved victories there. Although untested recently, it had undoubtedly reached Silver Star Rank 3 by now.

Even with Julian's Charmeleon mastering Flamethrower and receiving power-up assistance from Heatran, it still couldn't match against a Silver Star Rank 3 Charmeleon.

"Hmph, then watch closely," Julian huffed, observing Kalia's expression. He then turned to his Charmeleon and shouted, "Charmeleon, use Heat Wave!"

"Heat Wave?" Kalia exclaimed, surprised. While Heat Wave is a Fire-type move, Charmeleons typically cannot learn it naturally. It requires either a Move Disk or witnessing another Pokemon perform the move.

Hearing Julian employ another Fire-type move, specifically Heat Wave, Lian's excitement surged.

Heat Wave and Dragon Breath share similarities, both relying on intense exhaled attacks. Dragon Breath utilizes Dragon-type energy, while Heat Wave harnesses fiery elemental energy for its powerful gust.

Moreover, Heat Wave is one of the few wide-range Fire-type moves, capable of covering almost half the battlefield. It consumes more energy than Flamethrower but delivers greater potency. However, due to its nature as a breath-based attack, once released, it moves like a sweltering breeze, allowing prepared Pokemon ample opportunity to evade.

In contrast, Flamethrower shoots out swiftly, making it much harder to dodge.

Currently, Lian lacks sufficient fire elemental energy to unleash Heat Wave, primarily because his level isn't high enough. If he could receive assistance from Heatran, similar to Julian's Charmeleon, he might learn Heat Wave earlier.

A visit to Steel Fire Mountain was definitely necessary; Kalia had mentioned taking him there before, though their previous trip only involved spending some time at its base.

Upon receiving the command, Charmeleon puffed out its cheeks, and even its belly seemed to expand. Despite having sufficient fire elemental energy, releasing Heat Wave still required considerable effort for a Charmeleon.

If it were a Charizard, generating Heat Wave would be effortless, merely needing to flap its wings.

Huff!

Charmeleon opened its mouth wide, exhaling a continuous blast of scorching hot breath, creating a massive wave of intense heat directed towards Lian.

The temperature on the entire battlefield soared as waves of searing air swept across.

Simultaneously, Lian unleashed Flamethrower, striving to maximize its coverage. With his current Energy Control Rating, he barely managed to extend the range of Flamethrower.

The flames spread outward, resembling Incinerate, forming a fan-shaped eruption.

As Flamethrower met Heat Wave, although Lian's flames were dispersed by the gust, they also continuously depleted the Heat Wave's strength. By the time all the flames were blown away, the remaining force of the Heat Wave was significantly weakened.

As Lian felt the approaching heat, he didn't retreat. Just before the scorching wave reached him, it dissipated.

He successfully resisted the Heat Wave. Normally, with concentrated Flamethrower attacks, one could penetrate through the intense heat and directly hit the opponent.

However, doing so would still expose himself to harmful heat blasts.

Lian carefully observed the Heat Wave but chose not to attempt comprehending it immediately. Instead, he pondered whether the release pattern of Heat Wave could be integrated into his Flamethrower technique.

By transforming Flamethrower into a breath-like move, akin to a continuous blast, he could emit waves of intense heat. This adaptation would not only increase the speed of releasing energy but also enhance its power significantly.

"I'm done fighting." Julian suddenly gave up. Despite their prolonged battle, neither Pokemon seemed visibly injured, making it seem pointless to continue.

"Alright, let's call it quits then." Kalia was equally bored; Charmeleon clearly had the strength to defeat its opponent but insisted on playing around, leaving her feeling helpless.

"Oh right, do you know what kind of Pokemon is inside the egg I bought? I forgot to ask that old man," Julian recalled his Charmeleon and walked over.

"It seems like he picked it up somewhere, but usually, it wouldn't be anything rare," Kalia remarked. In reality, this was a common sales tactic - claiming to have found a Pokemon egg by chance piqued buyers' curiosity and raised their expectations, thereby increasing the desire to purchase.

Most likely, it was just an ordinary Pokemon egg, potentially hatching into a commonplace Rattata or something similar.

"You never know; it could hatch into a very rare Pokemon," Julian said optimistically. His luck had been quite good lately, making him feel as if Lady Luck herself was smiling upon him.

"It's getting late, I should head back now." Kalia checked the time, realizing it was about right for her to return. With the Fire Stone secured, her Vulpix was ready for evolution.

"Where do you live?"

"I reside at the library, often spending my days at the Battle Tower," Kalia replied.

"Will you be coming back to the Night Market tomorrow?" Julian asked. The Night Market spanned three days, with today being only the first, and it typically grew livelier each night.

"Yes, I will." The Night Market was worth visiting, as sometimes rare items appeared amidst the offerings. With some money on hand, she could seize any opportunity to make valuable purchases if she encountered something appealing.
