Reborn ghost seeing lady is pampered by her ex husband

Chapter 625: Hiding in the wall.

The torches on the wall flickered, barely lighting the darkness in the old stone room. Their flickering light gnarled against the shadows of the hunters which stretched tall on the ground. The group of hunters stood in uneasy silence, waiting for Gecko to show himself.

Warlocks that dabbled in dark magic always had a few tricks up their sleeves. Gecko's surrender would not come easily.

"Lumos Ignis." Phoebe whispered into the howling wind that was seeping into the room.

A soft powerful glow emerged, flooding the room with white and golden energy. And yet, the one they sought remained in hiding. All they heard was silence, their eyes darted around in search of suspicious activity.

"Alright do not say that we never gave you a chance." Phoebe warned in a tired voice.

Slowly, she walked towards a part of the wall, her fingers clawed into a curved stone and dug inside, closing around Gecko's throat. With ease, aided by magical strength, she yanked him out of the wall mercilessly and threw him to the ground. The relics that he had tied on his body or hidden in his clothes fell on the ground.

She did not leave him on the ground but picked him up easily, once again wrapping her hand around his throat. Connie rummaged his pockets meanwhile like a thief, tossing out whatever he carried on him and it was quite a lot.

The hunters had switched to combat mode the moment Phoebe revealed Gecko. All of their weapons were pointing at him.

"Are you alright, grand guardian?" One of the hunters asked, wondering if she a small, short woman needed help handling a fat and tall man.

"Me? I am doing just peachy sweetie. He weighs the same as a teddy bear to me." Phoebe giggled, effortlessly dangling Gecko from side to side to prove that she had no trouble lifting him with a single hand. "Aunt, I am just realizing that we did not have dinner tonight."

"Huh!" Andre was flabbergasted. Was this what his sister wanted to discuss right now?

Even the other hunters were puzzled. Maureen was crazy, Phoebe was weird.

"What do you say to a large serving of Gecko?" Maureen asked with a smile, brandishing her moon fang blade.

Phoebe's hand became tighter around Gecko's neck. "I have never eaten a lizard but there is a first time for everything. Just make sure that you skin it well and fry it in hot oil while it is still alive."

Thrashing, Gecko's fingers scrambled at Phoebe's wrist. "I cannot breathe....." He struggled to say but Phoebe's grip only got tighter. She wished that she had those long talons so that she could dig them into his neck. For all the pain that he had caused, he deserved it.

"Do not kill him just yet, he could be knowing where Azur is after all he has to give him these relics. Maybe he even knows where Alena is being kept." Rufus told Phoebe. His gaze drifted to his wristwatch. "We came for him, and we have him now so let us go back to the academy, it time for the search of magic gifts among children to start." He added.

Phoebe nodded, her power sent Gecko flying, a blur of motion before he struck the wall and collapsed. He was out cold like a lamp.

Phoebe and the Saxon spirit confirmed that all of the ingredients for the spell which he had collected were there and were real. They put them away and handed Rufus what was left of the things Gecko was planning to abscond with.

The hunters put a spell on Gecko that cut him off from his magic, restrained him with magic ropes and dragged Gecko like unwanted farm produce back to the academy.

One minute after they vanished, a blue-eyed demon appeared in the temple and growled. Its growl shook the temple and brought it to its knees.

The humans inside that were in slumber, about to be picked up by hunters and thrown in supernatural prisons died as the walls and pillars temple collapsed on top of them, crushing them to death.

************

The potential new students warmed the academy like eager flies, buzzing through the halls as they explored the arcane wonders before the search began. It had been two hours since Gecko was captured, and the gates of the academy opened to the founding families and specially invited guests.

To say that the potential students were excited was an understatement. They were buzzing like bees, touching everything and booking desks in classrooms before they could even be chosen.

Things had changed this year, rather than going from one family to another to do the tests. All members of the founding families had been invited to the academy. One thing about the founding families that had not changed despite all that was going on was their desire to stand out. The day was about the children, but their parents had come dressed as if it was party.

Phoebe was no different as she had been forced to dress up nicely by Jennie. In a very outstanding red gown, she strolled her way to the assembly coliseum towards the rest of her family. The top ten families like the Mayfair's, the Drusus's, Castille's, Lees, Spellcaster's, the Saxon's and others were seated in the first-class VIP sections. It was the norm, and nobody had trouble with it.

What they did frown upon was the president of Fog country and his wife being squeezed in with them and later, Rufus was to receive dozens of complaints about this.

In the meantime, all eyes remained on Phoebe. They watched her with awe; people bowed in respect and reverence wherever she passed because news had spread that she was the grand guardian.

"I do not like the fame that comes with this." She complained, not liking the feeling of being watched.

Star giggled. "Better you than I mother."

Her ears tuned in to the conversation around. Her family was busy listening to Maureen exaggerate the events of Gecko's capture.

"In a wall? My goodness! However, does a man hide in a rock-solid wall and not suffocate." Miranda gasped loudly.

"Magic Miranda." Jennie said.

"Phoebe my God, that dress!!" Miranda gushed.

"You can thank me." Jennie took all the credit gladly.

The conversation was cut short by Rufus who walked in with two hunters with him. They carried transparent boxes with pure magic crystals inside. Rufus stepped behind a podium that was in the center of the top ten families.

"Good morning, everyone. Settle down so that we can begin." Rufus began. "I have made a made a few changes in how things are going to go down." He waved his hand, giving instructions to the those that were working with him.

The blinds of the Assembly Coliseum slashed downward like guillotine blades, bars of sunlight narrowing to slits before darkness ate them whole leaving them gasping.

"Lights!" Rufus loudly spoke; the Coliseum came to life once again as lights blazed on like summoned suns.

Slowly, people started to realize that the coliseum had been closed off. Hooded hunters with guns stood guard at the doors, there presence was very frightened and nearly everyone trembled.
