Chapter 2: Backwater Planet
The masked man approached the Tamaranean. His eyes flickered toward me before settling on her.
They spoke in hushed voices, occasionally glancing in my direction. I clenched my fists. I hated being left out of conversations, especially when they were about me.
"Hey," I cut in, crossing my arms. "I held up my end of the deal. Now you hold up yours—what planet is this?"
The masked man turned to me and spoke in his strange language. I didn't understand a word of it. When he looked back at the Tamaranean, she nodded in response. Then, without another word, he bolted in another direction, leaving me scowling.
"This planet is called Earth," she finally answered. "I will answer the rest of your questions, but first, I am needed to help with the aftermath of the battle, your help would be greatly appreciated."
I scoffed. "What? No. That wasn't part of our deal. Do whatever you want, but I won't waste my time helping."
Without waiting for a response, I launched myself onto the roof of a nearby building, watching as they scrambled to assist the weak, helpless civilians.
So this was Earth.
Never heard of it.
For a while, I simply observed. The Tamaranean lifted collapsed beams with ease, while the masked man barked out orders. The green-skinned one kept shifting into different animals—a gorilla, an eagle, even a massive elephant—to assist wherever needed.
My tail flicked in mild irritation.
At first, I was content with waiting. But the longer I sat there, the more restless I became. I hated wasting time.
Eventually, I exhaled sharply. "Tch. Fine."
With a burst of ki, I descended back into the city. Clearing rubble was easy. I lifted debris, tossed aside collapsed structures, and even put out a few fires with concentrated blasts of air pressure. A few civilians flinched when they saw me, but I ignored them.
By the time the cleanup efforts wound down, the group was gathering near a massive aircraft. That was my cue.
I landed near the Tamaranean, my patience wearing thin.
"Alright, Tamaranean. I've waited long enough. It's time for you to finish your end of the bargain."
She turned to me, completely unfazed. "Of course. But can we do it at our base?"
I frowned, about to refuse—
Grrrrr.
A loud growl echoed from my stomach. Silence followed.
The green one burst into laughter.
"…Will there be food?" I asked.
Starfire smiled. "Why, yes. Plenty."
The masked man—Nightwing—spoke briefly before stepping inside the aircraft. The others followed, and after a brief hesitation, I did the same.
Inside, they chatted among themselves, their words still nothing but meaningless noise. Ignoring them, I tapped my scouter, checking its progress.
Unknown language: Download at 72%.
My brow twitched. 'Stupid backwater planet. Why was this taking so long?'
I leaned back, shutting my eyes to pass the time. Then—
"…A Saiyan?"
My eyes snapped open.
My scouter beeped.
And suddenly, the words around me clicked into place. I could understand them.
Before I could process it, another voice chimed in.
"He looks like a normal human—except for his weird monkey tail."
My head whipped toward the speaker—the green-skinned one. I narrowed my eyes.
"If anything, you're the weird one with that green skin," I shot back.
The room fell silent.
"You speak English?" the blonde girl asked, raising a brow.
"I just learned to," I corrected. "My scouter is translating the language."
"So basically alien tech? Cool," the red-haired male remarked.
Before I could respond, Nightwing spoke.
"We're here."
The aircraft landed near a massive T-shaped structure by the water. As we disembarked, I barely paid attention to the tour. My focus was on the scent of food in the air.
——
The second we reached the kitchen, I wasted no time. Devouring the food I showed them the true might of a saiyan. The others watched in stunned silence as I inhaled plate after plate without slowing down.
"Dude," Beast Boy gawked. "You eat more than Cyborg."
Cyborg huffed. "Yeah, well, at least I enjoy my food. He's inhaling it like a vacuum."
I ignored them, finishing off the last plate before leaning back, satisfied.
"Alright," I said, my tone serious now. "Back to business. What system is this planet in?"
Starfire hesitated. "…I do not know."
I frowned. "Then what about the sector? Which sector is this?"
Another pause.
"I do not know that either."
My expression darkened. I had wasted all this time, and for what?
"What's the name of the galaxy, then?"
"Oh! I know this one—the Milky Way Galaxy," the red-haired one said.
I frowned.
"Never heard of it."
This was pointless. A complete waste of my time.
"Tch. I'm out."
I turned toward the exit, intent on leaving—only for Nightwing to step into my path.
"We might not be able to help," he said, voice measured. "But we know someone who can. They're already on their way."
I narrowed my eyes. That didn't sit right with me. If a fight broke out, handling this group alone would already be difficult—but with reinforcements?
"No thanks," I said coolly.
I turned to leave. But just as I approached the elevator—
Beep.
The doors slid open.
Two figures stepped inside.
One wore dark armor, his bat-like cowl partially obscuring his face.
The other was clad in green and black, his fist glowing with emerald energy.
My stomach twisted.
A Green Lantern.
His eyes widened. "A Saiyan?!"
Without hesitation, he thrust his hand forward. Green energy surged from his ring, forming a massive cage meant to trap me where I stood.
I clicked my tongue, leaping backward just before the construct could fully envelop me.
I knew it. This was a trap.
"Lantern, stand down!" the armored man barked.
"No, you don't understand!" the Lantern snapped. "Saiyans are bloodthirsty savages! If this one is here, that means they're planning to invade!"
The Lantern shot forward, energy flaring as he swung a massive, glowing fist at me.
Tch.
I dodged, countering with a swift ki blast. He barely managed to block, his construct cracking from the impact.
The Titans sprang into action, trying to de-escalate.
"Wait! Stop!" Starfire called out, flying between us.
But I wasn't listening.
A ki blast formed in his palm, and without hesitation, he hurled it—straight at Starfire.
Her eyes widened.
"Wait—!"
Before the attack could connect, a red blur zipped in front of her.
Kid Flash.
He grabbed Starfire, dragging her out of the blast's path in the blink of an eye. The explosion tore through the air behind them, scorching the ground.
The Titans immediately fell into combat stances.
"Alright," Cyborg growled, his arm shifting into a cannon. "We tried talking."
My muscles tensed, senses sharpening. Too many enemies. Too little space. Only one way out.
I didn't hesitate. The second I saw the Green Lantern's construct crack, I launched myself forward, fist cocked back.
His eyes widened. He barely had time to throw up another barrier before my punch shattered through it like glass. The impact sent him rocketing across the kitchen, crashing through the opposite wall.
"Lantern's down!" Nightwing's voice cut through the chaos.
I barely had a second to process before Cyborg's arm transformed, energy pulsing at the barrel.
"Alright, buddy—you're officially overstaying your welcome!"
A sonic cannon blast erupted from his arm, the force of it screaming through the air. I twisted at the last second, feeling the heat as it grazed past me, obliterating the counter behind me. Before he could fire again, I surged forward, driving my foot hard into his chest.
Cyborg flew backward, smashing into the fridge with a deafening crunch.
I barely had a moment to breathe before a shadow loomed over me.
"Azarath Metrion Zinthos!"
Raven's voice rang out, and suddenly, black tendrils shot from the darkness, wrapping around my limbs.
Tch. Annoying.
I clenched my fists, pulling hard. The shadows resisted for a second—before tearing apart in my grasp.
Raven's eyes widened. I smirked and grabbed one of the tendrils still connected to her, yanking her toward me with brute strength. Before she could react, I drove my knee into her stomach and tossed her aside like dead weight.
A golden rope suddenly snapped around my wrist, radiating with divine energy.
"You're strong," a female voice grunted. "But you're not going anywhere."
I turned my head. Wonder Girl.
She pulled hard, trying to keep me locked down.
I narrowed my eyes. Ki flared around me, with a single violent tug, I yanked back, pulling her off balance. The second she staggered, I spun on my heel and delivered a devastating back kick to her ribs.
She crashed through the dining table, wood splintering everywhere.
I turned—just in time to see Starfire soaring toward me, her hands blazing with green energy.
"You attack my friends—I will not allow this!"
Before I could react, she fired a storm of Starbolts.
I dodged the first, the second, the third—then a particularly large one slammed into my chest, sending me flying through the wall and into the main hall of Titan Tower.
The second my feet touched the ground, I tried to regain my stance—but something slammed into me like a bullet.
Kid Flash.
I barely saw him move before fists rained against my body, rapid-fire strikes from every angle. I tried to counter, but he was too fast—each hit came a split second before I could react. My arms barely kept up, blocking what I could.
Tch. Annoying.
Then, I saw it.
A pattern in his movement.
I timed it perfectly. Just as he came in for another strike, I sidestepped—and drove my elbow into his ribs.
The second I connected, I heard him gasp in pain before he collapsed to the ground, groaning.
I exhaled. One down.
A baton spun toward my face.
I tilted my head just in time for it to miss by inches.
But then—
A figure flipped over me.
Before I could react, two feet slammed into the back of my head, sending me stumbling forward.
Nightwing.
I growled, turning to retaliate—
BOOM.
Cyborg's sonic cannon fired at full blast. The white-hot energy engulfed me, searing through my skin and sending me crashing through the outer wall of the Tower.
I tumbled through the air before hitting the courtyard below, creating a deep crater.
Smoke filled my vision. Dust clouded the air.
I coughed, pushing myself up. Despite my body aching, my blood surged with excitement, I was far from done.
I clenched my fists, as ki flared around me.
Then I shot out of the crater, fist-first, aiming straight for Cyborg.
Before I could land the hit, Starfire intercepted, tackling me mid-air. She dragged me upward, energy blazing around us like a meteor shower.
I twisted, planting my feet against her stomach—and with one explosive kick, sent her plummeting toward the ground.
She hit the dirt hard, leaving a small crater.
I hovered above, panting slightly. My body stung, bruises forming.
I scanned the battlefield.
Nightwing. Cyborg. Wonder Girl. Raven. Starfire. Kid Flash.
And for the first time, I realized—
I was losing.
'Tch. Annoying.'
Nightwing's voice rang through the comms. "Raven"
The shadows behind me moved.
Before I could turn, black tendrils erupted from the ground, seizing my arms and legs.
"—!"
I struggled, but the bindings tightened, draining my strength.
Then, before I could break free—
A blinding strike from Kid Flash—
A cannon blast from Cyborg—
A punch from Wonder Girl—
A barrage of Starbolts from Starfire—
Each hit landed in perfect succession, leaving me reeling, my body crashing through the wreckage of the Tower entrance.
I coughed, spitting blood. My vision blurred.
I tried to push myself up.
But before I could move, something sharp struck my neck.
A bat-shaped projectile.
My muscles locked up instantly.
"Neural disruptor," Batman's voice was calm. Cold. "This fight over."
I barely had time to curse before my vision went black.
