She Belongs To The Devil

Chapter 817: Missing Person

"It's starting to get a little chilly, isn't it?" Damien said to Kenneth as he rubbed his arms. He wasn't that used to the cold weather on Earth yet.

Kenneth gave a nod and asked, "Why don't you close the window then?"

"But I want to see outside the window," Damien said while stretching his neck to see the endless forest that they were currently crossing. Although it was already dark, Damien loved looking at all the trees and wild animals in the distance that were out to catch some prey.

Kenneth, on the other hand, wasn't that interested in watching the trees that looked the same.

And when Damien said that he was interested to stare out the window, Kenneth rolled his eyes at Damien and shook his head. At times, he couldn't help but think that Damien was just a baby trapped inside the body of an adult.

Seeing that sad look on Damien's face, Kenneth sighed and asked, "Didn't you bring something warm to wear? Wear another layer and you can keep on staring out of the window without feeling cold."

"Ah! That's a great idea!" Damien gave a wide smile and immediately picked up the suitcase from under his seat.

He then opened the suitcase and rummaged on his side of the suitcase to find something to wear on top of his shirt. However, he hadn't brought anything warm, so he looked at Kenneth and smiled.

"What?" Kenneth asked, although he already knew what Damien wanted to ask him.

Damien pointed at the overcoat on Kenneth's side of the suitcase and asked, "Can I wear them? I can't promise I will return them in a good condition though. When I promise that to you, something happens and the cloth gets ruined."

Kenneth leaned back and closed his eyes, pretending that he didn't hear a word that Damien said to him. He didn't want Damien to get everything easily. So, he wanted Damien to beg for a while.

Damien frowned and kicked Kenneth's boot. "Hey! I asked you a question."

"You should have brought your own clothes," Kenneth pretended that he wasn't willing to give his cloth to Damien.

"Tch!" Damien rolled his eyes and slammed to close the suitcase. "I will go and bring my own clothes then," he mumbled in a serious voice.

"Wait!" Kenneth abruptly opened his eyes and held Damien by his arm. He had forgotten that Damien could easily teleport anywhere he wanted. So, getting a few pairs of clothes wasn't a big deal to him.

He laughed and then said after leaving his hold on Damien's arm, "Ugh! I cannot even make jokes with you. I hate how much power you have." He pointed his brows at the suitcase then gave permission to Damien, "Feel free to wear what you like. I am not feeling that cold anyway."

Damien smiled like a kid whose wish had been fulfilled by their parents. He quickly took the overcoat out of the suitcase and then put it on. He smoothened the crease on the chest of that overcoat and happily said, "This feels nice and warm. Thanks!"

"No prob– Whoa!"

Damien suddenly fell on Kenneth when the carriage abruptly came to a halt.

Both of them were so busy mocking each other that they failed to notice what was happening outside.

"Sorry!" Damien quickly pushed himself up and looked out of the window.

Kenneth also got up to take a peek and asked Damien, "What's wrong? Why did we stop here?"

"Shh…" Damien pressed his index finger over his lips and gestured for Kenneth to keep quiet. He darted his sharp eyes around the forest to see if he could spot anything unusual while at the same time, focusing his ears on sounds other than that of the neighing horses and the frightened coachman.

Kenneth also narrowed his eyes and stood beside Damien to take a look around. He especially focused on the smell to check if there were any werewolves around.

Both of them got interrupted when the coachman spoke to them as he tried to calm his horses, "Milords, there's nothing to be worried about. The horses were just scared because there is a dead deer a few feet ahead on the road."

"Dead dear?" Kenneth furrowed his brows and then looked at Damien with concern. "What if it's a trap?"

"Thieves?" Damien asked while slightly raising his brows.

Kenneth shrugged. "Maybe? Or maybe it's the wolves. I haven't caught their scent though."

Before the two of them could finish their conversation and think about what they were supposed to do, the coachman shouted from outside, "I will clear the road, Milords. Please patiently wait inside. I will try to make it quick."

Since both Damien and Kenneth hadn't seen, heard, or smelled anything suspicious, they agreed with the coachman. And they didn't feel like touching the dead deer, so they decided to stay inside and let the coachman make way for the carriage.

The two of them quietly waited for the coachman to return back to the carriage. However, even after waiting for quite a while, he didn't return.

"Are you sure that man hasn't abandoned us?" Kenneth asked Damien rather suspiciously.

Damien ran his fingers through his hair and got up on his feet. "I am not sure. I heard him walking into the forest a few minutes ago. I thought he was going to throw the deer to the side so that the horses wouldn't get scared again."

"But I can't hear his footsteps anymore." He slowly opened the door of the carriage so as not to startle the horses, and then pushed the creaking door open with caution.

"You should have said so earlier!" Kenneth also got up on his feet and followed Damien out of the carriage.

Damien looked in the direction where he heard the coachman's footsteps vanishing. He pointed in that direction and said to Kenneth, "I will look over there. You check the other areas."

"Alright but…" Kenneth furrowed his brows and asked, "Wouldn't teleporting to him be faster?"

Damien heaved a sigh and whispered, "What if he was taken away by something we didn't notice? I wouldn't want to jump into some den unprepared."

"Good point," Kenneth replied and pointed in the opposite direction as Damien. "I will check over there."

The two of them then separated from each other and went to look for their coachman.
