Chapter 57: Fallen Grace: Saeko’s Secret
"By the way, do you have any sort of plan in mind for jumping into a crowd of zombies like that?" – Akatsuki asked as she moved at high speed, smoothly decapitating zombies with her short sword.
"I don't have any plan." – Kojou shook his head lightly. The information they received from the guild was extremely limited, so it would've been strange to have a plan in the first place – "But for now, it's best to follow those people trying to leave by bus. I need to confirm something. Also, I don't sense Shito anywhere."
"I see. But since you can sense Shito, does that mean you've encountered one of them before?" – Akatsuki nodded before asking curiously. She had never encountered a Shito before and thus couldn't identify their presence, especially in a world filled with non-human beings and zombies.
"I dealt with one during my childhood. That's how I'm able to recognize the presence of a Shito," Kojou said with a frown. He had faced a Shito before, during an expedition with his cursed father to some ancient ruins – the place where their story with the Fourth Primogenitor began… the being he had now become.
Although Akame remained silent, she was quietly gathering information from their conversation while cutting down zombies with her own sword. She was so powerful that decapitating them posed no challenge at all.
As for Kojou, he didn't carry a sword and saw no need to summon the golden one. Instead, he used his raw physical strength to crush zombie skulls effortlessly. His brute force alone was more than enough for such a feat.
And so, the trio continued advancing toward the bus, effortlessly clearing out the zombies in their path.
"The bus is ready to go!!" – shouted a beautiful woman with blonde hair and golden eyes as she sat behind the wheel. Her outfit made it obvious she was a teacher.
"Busujima-senpai, get on board first! I'll cover you!" – shouted a young man with messy black hair and brown eyes as he fought off zombies with a baseball bat.
"Wait a second, Marikawa-sensei!" – shouted a stunning girl with dark purplish hair and beautiful blue eyes while dispatching zombies using a bokuto. "There are people approaching—and they're strong. They're handling the zombies like it's nothing."
This Yamato Nadeshiko beauty was the president of the Kendo Club and the number one beauty of Fujimi Academy: Busujima Saeko.
"..." – Saeko stared intently at Kojou's group, her eyes specifically locked onto Kojou himself. A storm of emotions swirled in her gaze.
Shock… awe… excitement… fear… familiarity… reverence… all these emotions blended in Saeko's blue eyes as she looked at Kojou.
"Do you know these people, Busujima-senpai?" – asked the young man with black hair and brown eyes, glancing nervously at Kojou and the others. They were dealing with zombies like they were sacks of potatoes—especially Kojou, who was terrifying, crushing skulls barehanded.
That young man was Komuro Takashi, the protagonist of this world. Even though he had a rather clueless look on his face, as a protagonist, he had great natural combat talent. Despite lacking proper training, he could still take down dozens of zombies with relative ease.
But to Kojou and the others, that meant nothing. Takashi's presence was insignificant to them. However, someone else among them stood out—someone whose presence grabbed their attention more than an ordinary person like Takashi.
"Hurry and get on the bus!!" – Saeko shouted as she smashed zombie skulls with her wooden sword gracefully and swiftly, like a Mai-Hime (Shamanic War Dancer).
Indeed, the one who captured their attention wasn't anyone else but Saeko. But it wasn't due to her beauty—it was her strength. It was obvious she was far beyond ordinary humans… and she possessed a strange presence.
Although the presence felt unfamiliar and odd to Akatsuki and Akame, this wasn't the case for Kojou. He recognized it. It was a mixture of something disgusting and sacred at the same time.
The presence surrounding Saeko was unmistakably that of a Fallen Angel—the only kind of being that bore both holy and demonic traits. But it wasn't just any Fallen Angel's presence—Kojou knew only one being with that kind of presence.
The aura enveloping Saeko was none other than that of the first Fallen Angel in the world, the son of the God of the Holy Book—Lucifer.
The reason Kojou had ignored the filthy Shido earlier was because he had already sensed Lucifer's presence the moment he arrived in this world. That's why he came straight here—to confirm the source of that aura. He had expected to encounter a shard or remnant of Lucifer—but he hadn't expected it to come from a mere human, even if she was a bit stronger than average.
And although Kojou's mind was now filled with questions—especially after Saeko had just looked at him as if she recognized him—he pushed all of those thoughts to the back of his mind. For now, the priority was leaving this place. He had plenty of time to talk later, as they wouldn't be leaving this world until Shito was dealt with.
