Chapter 13: Chapter 13 Asking For Death
Naruto walked confidently down the road, his head held high. The streets were still filled with cold, disdainful glances, and the malice from the villagers hadn't lessened… if anything, it had grown stronger.
But now, no one dared to gather in groups and whisper malicious curses about him. Unlike before, the malice directed at him was now rooted in fear.
Everyone avoided him like the plague.
As the saying goes, good news does not go out, but bad news spreads a thousand miles.
Konoha was, after all, a village. What had happened that morning had spread like wildfire by the afternoon. However, thanks to Hiruzen's strict orders and the Military Police Force actually arresting people, the villagers could only seethe in silence.
This made Naruto feel an unprecedented sense of clarity, 'This is how it should be. I'm the demon fox, after all.'
'Fear was the natural response. The constant bullying and cursing before had been completely backward.'
With his hands in his pockets and a warm smile on his face, Naruto strolled through the streets of Konoha as if he owned the place. No one dared to get close to him, and everyone made way as soon as they saw him coming.
Wherever he went, the area would fall silent, as if the birds themselves had stopped chirping. Only after he had passed would people dare to mutter a few curses under their breath.
Even the stray dogs in the corners of the streets, sensing the aura of the Nine-Tails' Chakra from a distance, would scamper away. It was a perfect display of being universally despised.
Since that was the case, Naruto wasn't in a hurry to go home.
He spent the entire afternoon wandering around Konoha, heading wherever the crowds were thickest. If a shop radiated particularly strong malice toward him, he would walk right in, touching this and looking at that. By the end of the day, several shops were on the verge of closing down.
However, there were a few bold ones who cursed him to his face, hurling every vile insult they could think of.
Then, Naruto simply watched with a look of pity as they were dragged away by the Military Police Force for a 'chat'.
The feeling of seeing people who hated him but couldn't do anything about it, knowing that cursing him would land them in jail, made Naruto's mood even brighter.
"You little brat, do you really enjoy such pointless games?"
Finally, Kurama, who is lying in the seal space, couldn't hold back any longer.
Naruto was a little surprised and responded mentally.
"Kurama, you're not angry anymore?"
Naruto's words made Kurama feel frustrated again, and it snorted coldly.
"Hmph, even if I were angry, would you come in here and let me beat you up?"
"Haha, I'll come fight you once I've improved my strength a bit more." Naruto said nonchalantly.
"Hmph!" Kurama didn't want to argue with Naruto about this. After over a year of interaction, it had long since realized that this little brat had no concept of pride.
Instead, it scoffed disdainfully: "Is this your way of getting revenge on Konoha?"
"Well, what can I do? I can't just go around causing trouble in broad daylight, right?" Naruto replied, feeling a bit helpless. Then, a sinister grin spread across his face as he said, "No need to rush. We'll wait until nightfall."
"..."
Kurama fell silent. It suddenly noticed that the already dim seal space had grown even darker. Even the seal gate and its bars were now marked with black patterns.
It finally understood why its Chakra hadn't driven Naruto out of control. After all, a drop of dirty water falling into a vat of ink would only cause a ripple, nothing more.
After obtaining the Mangekyo Sharingan, Naruto's malice had been unleashed, no longer bound by any restraints.
---
Dusk, the boundary between day and night, was also known as the 'hour of meeting demons'.
After wandering around all day, even though Naruto still had plenty of energy, the smell of cooking wafting from the houses along the street made him feel a bit hungry.
In a corner of the commercial street, Naruto stood in front of a shop, hesitating whether to go in or not.
The shop's sign, with its red and white colors, was particularly eye-catching. The bold characters read 'Ichiraku Ramen.' The steam from the ramen wafted through the gaps in the curtains, enticing passersby.
After a moment of hesitation, Naruto pushed aside the curtains and walked in.
Inside, there was only a long counter for customers to eat at. At the moment, two people were seated at the counter, one on the left and one on the right. A man and a woman were busy behind the counter.
Ayame, who had been working with her father for years, immediately noticed the new customer and stopped what she was doing, offering a warm smile.
"Welcome! May I help you... Naruto!" Ayame's expression shifted from surprise to delight.
"Naruto, you brat! Where have you been all this time? We've been so worried about you."
Ayame's expression became serious again, and she looked at Naruto with a look like an older sister worried about her brother.
"Oh, it really is Naruto! You haven't been here in over a year. We've added a lot of new items to the menu."
Teuchi turned around and greeted Naruto with a smile.
"Haha, I've been training outside for the past year. I just got back today. I'll have to try all of Teuchi-san's new dishes."
Naruto scratched his head and laughed. It was one of the rare times he showed a genuine smile in front of others.
'Indeed, even after today's events, Teuchi-san and Ayame-nee hadn't shown any malice toward me.'
This place was one of the few sanctuaries he had in Konoha. However, the sudden surge of malice from one corner of the shop made him feel uncomfortable.
Naruto frowned slightly and chose to sit closer to another person. Oddly, this person didn't seem to radiate any malice either.
Naruto glanced over curiously. The man had distinctive silver hair, a forehead protector covering one eye, a mask obscuring half his face, and a small book with no visible cover.
Hatake Kakashi!
Naruto hadn't expected to run into him here, but he didn't dwell on it. He casually sat down next to Kakashi as if nothing were out of the ordinary.
Kakashi only glanced at Naruto when he entered, his lifeless eye flickering briefly before returning to its usual dull state.
"Speaking of which, Naruto, you've grown a lot this past year. You used to be shorter than this counter, haha."
Ayame, who was preparing utensils for Naruto, laughed.
"Really?" Naruto stood up to compare himself to the counter. Sure enough, he was now half a head taller than the counter.
But this is normal. Over the past year, he'd been eating all sorts of wild game outside, which are high in protein and nutrition. And with the help of chakra, he'd grown quite a bit.
"Probably because of all the training." Naruto explained with a smile, and said in a show-off manner, "Ayame-nee, I've already learned some Ninjutsu now."
"Ninjutsu? Naruto is so amazing."
Ayame's eyes sparkled with admiration. She and her father had been running the ramen shop in Konoha for over a decade, so she knew how impressive it was for a six-year-old to already know Ninjutsu.
"Speaking of which, wasn't Kakashi-sama also using Ninjutsu by the age of six?"
Ayame suddenly turned to Kakashi, likely because she sensed no hostility from him toward Naruto. She wanted to use this opportunity to let the two get to know each other, as she thought two geniuses would have a lot to talk about.
Kakashi's grip on his book tightened slightly. After a moment of hesitation, he gave a small nod.
Naruto made an exaggerated, comical expression and exclaimed: "Eh - this one-eyed uncle is as amazing as me?"
'One-eyed uncle...'
Kakashi couldn't help but roll up his dead fish eye, but he didn't respond.
'Sensei's child... but his personality is nothing like sensei's.'
The atmosphere grew awkward, and Ayame, who had started the conversation, felt a bit embarrassed. She quickly changed the subject, "Naruto, are you done with your training because you're going to enroll at the Academy?"
"Yeah." Naruto nodded happily, completely unfazed by Kakashi's indifference.
Ayame's eyes softened. "Since you're going to school, you'll definitely make more friends, right."
"I will definitely..."
Bang!
A loud noise suddenly cut Naruto off mid-sentence. Ayame was startled, realizing the customer next to them had finished his ramen and slammed his chopsticks on the table as he stood up.
Ayame quickly put on a polite smile and approached him: "Customer, was the ramen not to your liking?"
The man snorted, glancing sideways at Naruto's seat. He muttered something under his breath about bad luck before turning to Ayame with a look of disgust. In a voice loud enough to carry down the street, he shouted, "Your noodles are the worst I've ever had. Keeping this shop open is a waste of Konoha's land. You should just close down already."
After saying that, he stormed out without looking back.
Ayame froze for a moment before realizing the man had just been looking for trouble. Her gentle expression hardened, her brows furrowing slightly, and her cheeks flushed with anger.
She looked at the empty bowl on the table, which is completely clean, and clenched her teeth.
Leaning over the counter, she shouted angrily after the retreating figure: "You bastard, if the ramen was so bad, why did you finish it all, huh? Come back here and tell me exactly what was wrong with it!"
But the man only quickened his pace, and soon disappeared into the crowd.
Ayame had no choice but to pick up the empty bowls on the table, only to notice another problem.
"That bastard, he didn't even pay!"
Ayame was even angrier now. She'd never seen someone dine and dash so brazenly.
'This guy... he's asking for death.'
Naruto lowered his head, a glint of malice flashing in his eyes. He had already memorized the man's scent.
'I'll be at your doorstep soon.'
"Ayame-nee, I'm sorry."
After hearing this, Ayame's expression softened, though she still looked a bit upset, and then she said to Naruto: "Naruto, this isn't your fault. That guy didn't just skip out on the bill, he was downright rude. "
Just then, Naruto felt a hand ruffle his hair.
He turned to see Kakashi, who had finished his ramen, heading toward the door. With his Sharingan, Kakashi wasn't allowed to interact too much with the Jinchuriki.
And on the table Kakashi had left, there was far more money than the cost of two bowls of ramen.
"It seems like Kakashi actually likes Naruto too." Ayame looked at the money on the table with some surprise, and said with a smile, "Kakashi's such a tsundere."
"Is that so?"
Naruto propped his chin on his hand, watching Kakashi's figure disappear into the darkness, lost in thought.
