Wizard: From Zero-Circle Wizard to the Omnipotent Lord

Chapter 13: Chapter 13: The Alchemy Department’s Malice

As one of the wizards in charge of the potion garden, Rosalind's connections allowed Lynn to work directly in the potion garden.

The potion garden was a subsidiary of the Potions Department, specializing in cultivating various magical herbs and plants. It was a crucial department within the Furnace.

However, procedures and formalities were of utmost importance inside the Furnace.

Therefore, before heading to the potion garden, Lynn and Colin had to go to the central hall in the living quarters to complete the necessary paperwork.

The two others who had passed the trial with Lynn also needed to visit the hall to complete their formalities before heading to their respective departments to find their backers or relatives.

When they returned to the central hall of the living quarters, Colin, who had some connections here, found it relatively easy to handle Lynn's work arrangements.

However, as soon as they entered the hall, they saw the man who had been covering for Colin at the reception desk hurrying over. He spoke coldly:

"The work arrangements for this newcomer have already been taken over by the Alchemy Department. Just send him directly there."

The man didn't take Lynn seriously at all, his tone laced with disdain.

Upon hearing this, both Colin and Lynn immediately furrowed their brows.

The Furnace already had plenty of manpower; otherwise, this year's intake wouldn't have been limited to just ten people but could have been hundreds or even thousands.

Therefore, the Alchemy Department suddenly demanding Lynn to work there was highly unusual.

Lynn had no connections in the Alchemy Department unless

Both of them almost simultaneously thought of a possibility:

Lynn had taken the spot of someone with connections.

It seemed that the person behind this was trying to use this opportunity to target Lynn.

"Have you already sent the paperwork over?"

Colin's gaze suddenly turned sharp as he stared at the man.

The man was momentarily startled by the sudden seriousness but still replied:

"Not yet. This is your responsibility. I didn't want to leave my name on it since you weren't back."

"That's good! I'll treat you to a meal sometime. Thanks for this."

Colin's tone relaxed a bit, and seeing the man nod and leave, he felt slightly relieved.

Then, Colin turned to Lynn and said in a low voice:

"Forget about the Alchemy Department. I'll handle your paperwork first and assign you to the potion garden in the Potions Department. They won't be able to touch you there."

Lynn naturally expressed his gratitude to Colin, his senior, and felt fortunate that he had passed the beautiful teacher's trial. Otherwise, if the paperwork had sent him to the Alchemy Department, his life would have been in grave danger.

After completing the formal procedures, Colin still wasn't entirely at ease and decided to personally escort Lynn to the potion garden.

The potion garden was located outside the living quarters. Although it was a bit far, it covered a considerable area, almost comparable to the beast pen.

After all, this was where the magical herbs and various extraordinary plants needed by the Furnace were cultivated.

As one of the overseers of the potion garden, Rosalind held a significant position here, so Colin was very familiar with this area.

Upon arriving, he immediately sought out an old acquaintance and entrusted Lynn to her care.

"Sonya, I'm leaving him to you. This is Lynn, the Teacher's new student. Please take good care of him."

Colin handed Lynn over to a woman named Sonya.

She wore the standard robes of the Furnace, but they couldn't hide her well-proportioned figure. Her face was quite beautiful, especially her bright and deep eyes.

When she learned that Lynn was Rosalind's student, her small mouth opened slightly in surprise.

"Lynn, follow me."

Sonya looked at Lynn's youthful face, her eyes not showing much envy but rather a hint of pity.

She thought to herself, "How pitiful, so young and already Rosalind's student. I wonder if he'll live to see his eighteenth birthday and the coming-of-age ceremony…"

Although Sonya looked young, her age didn't match her appearance.

She had been in the Furnace for many years and had undergone countless trials.

She knew that Rosalind's students had one notable characteristic extremely low combat ability, and they never seemed to truly understand the survival rules of black wizards.

Almost none of these students lived past their third year

Except for Colin, of course.

His combat ability wasn't strong either, but he had unique methods that allowed him to survive until now.

Therefore, in Sonya's eyes, becoming Rosalind's student was almost equivalent to a death sentence.

It had been a long time since she had seen Rosalind take in a new student. She had even thought that the wizard, who looked like an angel but acted like a devil, had stopped tormenting newcomers.

However, Lynn's arrival today shattered her assumptions.

She silently prayed for Lynn for a few seconds, her heart filled with regret.

Despite feeling a bit sorrowful about Lynn's future, Sonya still settled him in and took him to the buildings within the potion garden.

All the wizard apprentices working in the potion garden lived in these buildings.

Sonya found Lynn a decent room.

"Lynn, you're new here. Take a day or two to rest, and I'll see what suitable work arrangements I can find for you."

Her voice was calm, carrying a hint of concern. "I'll send someone over later with bedding and daily necessities."

The potion garden wasn't short on manpower. None of the departments in the Furnace were lacking in apprentices at the moment.

Because of this, Sonya needed to carefully find a position that would suit Lynn.

As for Lynn, being a complete newcomer to the world of wizards, he naturally wouldn't refuse Sonya's arrangements.

For him, the most important thing was to adapt to this new environment.

He needed some time to understand the life of a wizard and immerse himself in the books his teacher had provided, slowly digesting the knowledge.

The room wasn't large, containing only a wooden bed, a desk, and a wardrobe.

Although the space was simple, Lynn didn't mind. The room was clean and tidy, perfectly livable.

Even though the bed was just a simple wooden board, Lynn lay down without hesitation, completely relaxing as if shedding all his fatigue.

"This whole day has been so long…"

In the morning, he had fought desperately with a youth named Ross, risking his life to snatch the spot to enter the Furnace.

Then, he met Colin and Rosalind, becoming her student.

After that, he was assigned to the potion garden and moved into this simple little wooden room.

For Lynn, most of these were good things, but some of the twists and turns still left him feeling uneasy.

For example, Ross's powerful backer had tried to transfer Lynn to the Alchemy Department.

If he had gone there, it would have almost certainly meant death.

"Being pushed along like this…"

Lynn felt a sense of helplessness. He had no power to choose; ever since entering the Furnace and this world of wizards, everything seemed to be drifting with the current.

If he hadn't become Rosalind's student, he would have likely been crushed by someone in the Alchemy Department.

But was becoming Rosalind's student a good thing?

Lynn remembered the look of pity in Sonya's eyes earlier. It seemed that being Rosalind's student wasn't as glorious as it appeared on the surface.

But now, there was no turning back. What was done was done.

At least from what he knew so far, there didn't seem to be any bad news.

After all, his teacher was as gentle as the girl next door, nothing like the terrifying black wizards he had imagined.

"Since things have come to this, I'll just take it one step at a time…"

Lynn sighed, his eyes growing heavy as he drifted into sleep.

Sometime later, a knock on the door suddenly woke Lynn from his slumber.

"I was so tired today that I fell asleep. The person at the door must be here to deliver my bedding…"

Lynn got up and walked to the door, ready to open it and express his thanks.

But when he saw the face outside, his pupils contracted sharply.

It was one of the two who had passed the trial with him that morning!

Lynn knew that one of them had also gone to the Potions Department, but he hadn't expected that person to come to the potion garden as well.
