Chapter 27: TST [27]
"I Special Summon [Melffy Catty], [Melffy Puppy], and [Melffy Fenny] in Attack Position!"
The moment Morgan finished speaking, three fluffy little beasts bounced onto her field.
A kitten, a puppy, and a big-eared fox—each with heart-shaped markings and warm colors— their presence created a comforting contrast to the cold mechanical might of the Ancient Gear Golems.
The overwhelming pressure from the Golems seemed to lift as the crowd was healed by the sight of these adorable monsters.
"Wow! Those monsters are so cute, I just want to hug them!"
"I dream of owning a Deck like that! Where did Morgan even get it..."
"They're adorable, sure, but I don't think they stand a chance against Ancient Gear Golems."
"Right? Their Attack is barely a few hundred points, and they're in Attack Position. One punch from those Golems and they'll be pancakes."
"You're a monster."
Even Isla's heart began to melt at the sight of the Melffies. Despite her skill in Dueling, she was still a teenage girl who liked cute things… nothing strange about that.
She had just been criticizing Morgan's taste, yet now here she was, thoroughly enchanted… Her desire to claim Morgan for herself only grew stronger.
It was the first time she had a crush. The first time she had a real friend. Those two joyful firsts were deeply intertwined...
"Ahem…"
Isla cleared her throat to mask her rising emotions and turned her attention back to the field.
Meanwhile, Jade was glaring stiffly at Morgan from the stands behind her, cheeks puffed up in frustration, bangs casting a dark shadow over her face.
Morgan had kept this adorable Deck a secret from her!
'How dare she!'
Morgan was getting a little too cheeky lately. It was time for a "minor" punishment.
"Hehehe…"
On the Duel Field, just as Morgan was preparing her next chain move, she suddenly shivered.
She also felt an odd stare on her… but when she glanced around the stadium, it was gone. All she saw was Jade's sunny grin and her loud cheering.
'...Was it my imagination?'
Morgan shook her head and refocused.
"Summoning weak monsters like those won't help you," Mr. Grant said with a frown. "Monsters aren't just for looking cute."
"What matters is Attack Power and effects."
He had resumed his teacherly tone, towering over Morgan with righteous authority. In his eyes, this Duel had never been equal—just a game of make-believe.
On the podium, Milo nodded. Grant wasn't wrong. Visual appeal didn't translate into strength.
Against Ancient Gear Golems with piercing damage, these Melffies weren't even decent wall monsters. He wondered if Morgan had really chosen this Deck just for its looks—or if she had a deeper purpose.
Yet, Morgan just laughed at Mr. Grant's condescension.
"Mr. Grant, they say, don't judge a book by its cover. Same goes for monsters."
"Who says cute can't be strong?"
"There are no useless monsters—only useless Duelists. If you ask me, you are the one making shallow assumptions."
"Weak because they're cute? Don't be ridiculous."
She let out a cold laugh and picked up the three cards from her Duel Disk, stacking them.
Grant's expression soured at her rebuttal, but when he saw what she was doing, his face changed completely.
"Wait, are you planning to—"
"Heh. I overlay these three monsters to build the Overlay Network!"
"Xyz Summon! [Melffy Mommy]!"
A golden vortex tore open in the air, drawing the three little beasts into its glow.
After a burst of brilliant light, a strange creature appeared, completely pink and radiating maternal energy.
[Melffy Mommy] Rank 2│EARTH│Beast│1000 ATK / 1000 DEF
"An Xyz Summon! Morgan knows how to Xyz Summon?! But she's only in Year Two—that's Year Three content!"
"This Xyz Monster is adorable too! It looks like my pregnant kitty!"
"But its Attack is still low—only a third of an Ancient Gear Golem's..."
Seeing Morgan use a summoning method not yet in her curriculum, Milo looked at the headmaster with a sarcastic smirk.
"Your students are quite outstanding, huh? She learned Xyz Summoning early. That kind of achievement could earn her a spot in the Junior Division of the Duelist League."
"Oh no, not at all, not at all..."
The headmaster wiped his sweat nervously. Regret was already flooding in. Had he known Morgan was this talented, he never would have agreed to expel her.
Regardless, now there was no turning back; Whether Mr. Grant won or lost, Duel Academy was already losing big.
And Morgan was already continuing her next chain...
