MTLNOVEL Chapter 28: TST [28]
"I activate the effect of [Melffy Mommy]!"
"Once per turn: You can attach 1 Beast monster from your hand or field to this card as Xyz Material."
Morgan had no other monsters on her field, so she chose a monster from her hand instead.
Luckily, the monsters she had on the field were Special Summoned by [Obedience Schooled], so she hadn't spent any hand resources.
"I attach [Melffy Pony] from my hand as Xyz Material under [Melffy Mommy]!"
That brought [Melffy Mommy]'s total materials to four.
Like many Xyz Monsters, [Melffy Mommy]'s effects scaled with the number of materials beneath it—the more, the stronger.
But then Morgan did something shocking—rather than boost her Attack or activate more Spells, she went straight into the Battle Phase.
"Battle! [Melffy Mommy], attack [Ancient Gear Golem]!"
Morgan's unexpected assault left the crowd dumbfounded.
"Why is Morgan attacking now? Her monster only has 1000 Attack!"
"It's over... that monster she worked so hard to summon is going to get destroyed."
"Nooo, I don't want Melffy Mommy to be destroyed..."
"Then again, even if she doesn't attack, it would've been destroyed next turn anyway. Is she gambling everything on this strike?"
[Melffy Mommy] toddled forward on its stubby legs. The size difference was staggering—even if it leapt into the air, it couldn't reach the Ancient Gear Golem's knee.
The Golem's attack came crashing down like a falling mountain.
BOOM—!!
The iron fist smashed down, kicking up a cloud of dust and debris that swallowed both monsters from view.
The crowd held their breath.
When the dust cleared—
To their astonishment, [Melffy Mommy] was still there, crouched unharmed at the Golem's feet!
Morgan's Life Points hadn't dropped a bit.
The unexpected outcome triggered an uproar.
"What just happened?! Morgan's monster wasn't destroyed?!"
"And she didn't even lose LP! Is that its effect? That's strong!"
"That Deck might look cute, but it's not simple at all!"
Mr. Grant stared in disbelief. He hadn't expected Morgan to block an attack from Ancient Gear Golem. Could that Deck actually be more than just fluff?
Even Milo was stunned—but a question stirred in his mind.
Why did Morgan attack at all?
If she knew the monster wouldn't be destroyed and she wouldn't take damage, wasn't the attack meaningless?
Was she just trying to prove a point?
He shook his head. Based on her last Duel, Morgan wasn't the type to make pointless moves…
There had to be a reason.
"[Melffy Mommy]'s effect:"
"If this card has 3 or more Xyz Materials, it cannot be destroyed by battle."
"If it has 4 or more, you take no battle damage from battles involving it."
Morgan smiled. That was exactly why she had attached the extra material earlier.
Mr. Grant recovered fast from his surprise. But hearing her explanation, he scoffed.
"So what if it can't be destroyed by battle? You still can't touch my Ancient Gear Golem."
Morgan sneered and ended her Battle Phase. Then, in the next moment, a golden vortex tore open the sky again—the telltale sign of another Xyz Summon.
"W-What? Another Xyz Summon?!"
Mr. Grant felt an ominous chill.
"Mr. Grant, the only reason I attacked your Golem with [Melffy Mommy]... was to meet this summon's condition."
As she spoke, Morgan placed another card atop [Melffy Mommy].
In an instant, [Melffy Mommy] dissolved into light and was absorbed into the swirling overlay network.
"Another overlay?! What kind of creature is coming out this time?!"
"We had kittens, puppies... is it going to be a panda now?!"
"Still, can these animals even beat an Ancient Gear Golem?!"
As the crowd buzzed in anticipation, the summoning reached its climax.
Suddenly, a thunderous roar shook the arena. A colossal figure descended from the sky.
Its towering form reached the roof of the Duel Field—far taller than even the Ancient Gear Golems.
Sleek, metallic armor shimmered with a futuristic glow. Blazing thrusters flared beneath massive mechanical wings.
Its iron fists hung heavy with strength. Its sheer bulk radiated authority and dread.
A Gundam stood upon the earth!
The audience was struck dumb.
Wasn't this supposed to be a "cute little animal" Deck?!
What the hell was that thing?!
Standing beneath the machine god that blocked out the sun, Morgan smiled.
"Xyz Summon—[Divine Arsenal AA-ZEUS - Sky Thunder]!"
